  • Solves Problems with Sunlight
Style: Sensors
I had new garage doors installed about 3-4 years ago and they functioned perfectly (including the safety sensors) from day one. Unfortunately, we recently starting having problems with the garage doors closing in the later afternoon (North facing driveway). It was pretty clear that the sun was shining directly into the safety sensors which caused the lift motor to reverse. This was a major problem as I have a few kids who are great on their iPhones but not so great when it comes to more "complicated" home problems (i.e. running a dishwasher, washing machine, lawn mower, and garage doors). It is really frustrating to be at work and have a kid call to say they can't get the garage doors to close. It is even more frustrating to try to explain how to solve the problem to the helpless teenagers.....Enough said. Time to solve the problem. I did lots of internet research and found all kinds of hokey solutions (i.e. toilet paper roll, black plastic sun shades, etc...) but none of those seemed reliable enough to protect me from the dreaded call from the teenagers so I looked into the problem further and it appears that long-term exposure to sunlight can cause the older generation of photoelectric safety sensors to deteriorate. I decided to replace the old sensors with these hoping it would solve the problem. Good news! They did! I do have a couple of tips that might help with the install if you choose to replace your old sensors with these. First, I used a black permanent marker to mark the top location of the brackets for the old sensors. I then removed the old brackets and installed the new brackets with the new sensors as a complete assembly with the top of the new bracket at the marked line. That is much easier than installing the new bracket and then installing the new sensor (you do need to use the new bracket as the sensors are shaped differently). Next, I pre-wound some of the excess wire around a pen to create a little buffer in case I needed to move the new sensor up or down. It is only possible to do this easily if you do it before the wires from the sensor are connected to the wires from the garage door motor. I now had a buffer that would allow vertical movement if my marks were off. Finally, I cut the old sensor out one wire at a time so that I did not have to unplug the garage door motor itself. If you cut one wire at a time, you cannot create a short which might damage the garage door motor and unplugging the motor itself is an unnecessary extra step. The connectors that are included with the new sensors were perfect and easily secured with a simple pliers so all good! Once the install and electrical connections were complete, it was easy to verify the sensors were properly aligned. One sensor has an amber light and the other has a green light. It does not appear to matter how you install them. Both lights are constantly on when things are properly aligned and they flash if there is a problem so easy to verify the install. Mine turned out to be correct so I went on to test the up/down performance at the same time of day when we usually have trouble. Everything worked perfectly and I no longer have problems with the sunlight causing the garage doors to reverse! These turned out to be a simple solution to a frustrating problem. I highly recommend the kit if you are having similar problems with your garage doors auto reversing due to sunlight! ... show more

  • Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Style: Sensors
First, let me start by mentioning that if you have a Chamberlain Liftmaster Garage Door Opener and are having issues with your remote control, you may want to check if you installed LED lamps. If so, use Halogen or incandescent lightbulbs (if you can find any). On mine, I had to wait until the light went out before I could open/close the garage door, and it drove me crazy for a few years. Replacing the lamps with Halogens fixed the problem. I began having other issues where the door would easily reverse, and at first, I thought it was because the garage door was so old and maybe the rollers or the track was worn. I disconnected the garage door, and the same thing happened. I also saw an LED blinking on the opener. I checked the owner's manual, and the number of blinks indicated a problem with the sensors. I replaced the sensors with these, and it's like new again. In fact, these are better than the original sensors because the LED lamps on them are much brighter, and the brackets to hold the sensors are superb. One other thing to note is if you measure the voltage to the sensors it will be about six volts. The black stripe on the sensors goes to the positive side. Would highly recommend purchasing. ... show more

  • Purchased to replace faulty sensors. Quality stuff as described.
Style: Sensors - Old Version
My Liftmaster garage door started to not go down. I got the flashing garage door light, and then when you tried to lower it again, it would start then just reverse and go right back up. Then the up/down arrows would flash/alternate, which is a code that the security/sensors at the bottom are blocked or faulty. After some basic attempts to adjust them myself, it would magically work for a short time, then fail again. Called a well known big garage door company in our area, who came out (not the originally installed, who is the other big company in our area the home builder used BTW) and person switched the sensors to the other side, lubed the door and adjusted the lift/operation. Charged us $189 and the door worked, for a very short time again, like 5-6 times and back to the same issue. The sensors would show one amber, and the green light on the other sensor would only work randomly or once/twice and then fail. So the fix didn't work. The door was smoother and much more quiet, but the repair/installer person also then wanted to charge us/get us to install/fix the bearings and springs which they claimed were worn out and needed replacing. Of course, they wanted to charge us like $800 for that, or just replace the entire system/door for $2000!!!! Yeah right. The bearings/rollers and spring might be faulty, but they still work and are likely getting near the end of life. So I just decided after reading/searching around that my symptoms sound like the sensor(s) are just going bad. So I purchased these original ones, not knockoffs, which might be fine, but figured the extra $15 is worth it to get brackets in case I need those. I did a quick direct swap and rewired with the new sensors, did a quick adjustment, and baaaaammmm! Working fine now, no problems. So, no $2000 repair or whatever, just $35 and the door is opening/closing just fine now. Maybe this helps someone else. ... show more

  • Works great
Style: Sensors
These work great and simple installation. They didn’t have enough wire to run all the way to the opener but it wasn’t much to splice them in. Great overall

  • Sensors are very nice
Style: Sensors
I have a Chamberlain Whisper Drive. These are light years better than the other option on Amazon. The other sensors had to be wired backwards to work. After they were wired I couldn't get the sensors to read each other. I literally held both sensors inches apart and it wouldn't read the signal from the other. So I returned them. These sensors wired up correctly and we're very easy to adjust as they are smaller and fit in the brackets better. They are actually better than the OEM ones I originally received with the unit. ... show more
