  • these speakers are freakingly awesome!
I can't believe how fantastic these realatively small speakers sound. My old Advent speakers (remember them?) were over 40yrs old and the woofers were shot. After much researching on Amazon, I decided on these Cerwin Vega bookshelf speakers. I read all of the reviews and the vast majority were very positive so I was mostly confident that they would sound very good. I was worried as the size of these speakers are about 1/2 of the size of the Advents. My worries were unfounded as 40yrs of technolgoy far surpassed what I was expecting. The bass is very deep and low. There is an old Monkees tune (Randy Scouse Git) that has alot of tympani in it. The first time I listened to that song, I couldn't believe the sound I was hearing. I felt as if I could reach inside the speaker and pull out that tympani. It was practically chest pounding. Vocal clarity on these is also extremely good and I have no qualms about the mid range either. I am not an audiophile but do appreciate a good sounding system and these speakers do not disappoint. I find myself constantly staring at them and wondering how such amazing sound, depth and clarity can come out of something much smaller than what I am used to. I am thoroughly satisified and happy with these but can't help but wonder what the larger CV speakers sound like. Hopefully one day I will be able to afford a pair and find out for myself. My receiver is a Sony that is roughly 20yrs old and puts out 100 watts per channel. No problem pairing it with the CV's. The speakers can get LOUD if you so choose to play them that way and still retain their clairty, punchiness and definition of the different instruments. I was able to purchase these from Amazon after they had lowered the price a few times and bought them for a hair under $80 each. My goodness, such a bargain. If you are thinking and wondering how good these speakers will sound and if you would be happy with them, I would say just go ahead and get them. I can't imagine that anyone would not be delighted with these little beauties. ... show more

  • Fast delivery
The sound is so loud but clear and crisp. Especially coming from small speakers. I was not disappointed, I have owned Cerwin Vega speakers before.

  • Fills room with great sound for the size.
Add a sub to these and you have a great music set up for a budget.

  • Very Musical Speaker!
I've only had my new pair of CW XLS-6 for a day or so, so these are just my initial impressions. These speakers are very musical and have beautiful tonality. What immediately stands out is the exceptional tweeter. It strikes the perfect balance of revealing plenty of detail but without ever being harsh. And I mean, this tweeter is NEVER harsh. The mid-range is solid and the bass is full and of high quality. So, overall I would describe these as full range bookshelf speakers that are just brilliant for music (no subwoofer required in my opinion). I do not plan on using these for home theater so cannot provide any feedback on that. ... show more

  • Very good speakers if you have enough power driving them.
I've had a pair of these and the matching center channel for almost 2 years, they have served me well but never gave me the "wow" factor. I had been running them through an Onkyo HT-RC 360, after multiple HDMI failures Onkyo replaced it with a 460, which actually seemed a touch more muddy to my ears. After a few months the 460's HDMI crapped the bed (explained in my 460 review) and I've since sworn off Onkyo, as not only does the HDMI crap out in the reciever but it tends to fry the HDMI ports on anything powered on thats connected to it as well, last victim being my new Panasonic ST-60 60" plasma..... After some digging I decided on a Yamaha RX-V673 reciever, set it to 6ohms and the speakers finally gave me a "wow" moment, (as well as wows from other speakers as well). The CV XLS's sound superb through the yamaha, and best of all they sound "natural", they arent boomy, exaggerated, tinny, ice picky etc, they are full and rich. The yamaha totally transorms these speakers, I was "satisfied" more or less with them when I got them but as stated nothing more, driven by the Yamaha though, I love em. I dont even use my sub at all anymore...I dont need it and being in an upstairs apartment I seldom cranked it anyway...now its basically just a speaker stand. The XLS put out all the bass I personally want. ... show more

  • Lacked detail in the highs.
The bass response in these is incredible very full and chunky. Was surprised for how small it was. I returned it because I was expecting two speakers. They only send one at the price, also having mostly Klipch in my set up I felt these Vegas lacked detail in the highs. Not sure if they needed more breaking in but the highs just lacked to me. They sounded a bit too muddy. Lots of mids and bass tho. At this price I would have preferred Klipch RB61 however they aren’t available anymore so I’ll keep looking. 👍🏼 ... show more

  • Worth every penny.
Very easy to power, (Currently running on a 40W per channel amp) and they get LOUD. Bass is very present, but if you really want to feel it at low volume, you're going to want to consider a subwoofer. Build quality is amazing, front cover is removeable, and they also include the rubber feet separately, so you can choose to install them if you wish (Just have to stick them on). The highs are crisp and vocal clarity is astounding. Definitely the best bang for your buck if you're thinking of some speakers. Highly recommended. ... show more
