If You Like E-readers, the Original E-reader May Be Worth the Investment
I prefer hard-cover books, but I purchased a Kindle to learn if it is a good alternative to a real book. While I am still learning how to use my Kindle, here are my initial reactions after using my Kindle for less than 2 months and still learning how to use it. What I like: 1. The Investment in a Kin
dle notwithstanding, I like that I can purchase and store many of my favorite books for access anywhere at an affordable cost. 2. I like that I can highlight passages of importance to me without using flags and permanently marking my books. 3. I really like that I can add notes without permanently marking my books. What I Don't Like: 1. I don't like that there aren't better instructions on how to use the device and I had to figure out how to use it by trial and error. 2. I don't like the delay that exists between when I touch the screen to perform an operation and the operation completes. 3. I don't like that there isn't a good built-in stand or after-market holders to facilitate holding my Kindle securely while I'm sitting down or lying in bed and trying to read. 4. I don't like the lack of compatibility between an after-market protective cover or case on my Kindle and the after-market holders that let me hold my Kindle in one hand and perform operations with the other. 5. I don't like that there isn't a sense of how much time is left to complete reading the book or a chapter except for the occasional pages left to go and time left to go that pops up. 6. I don't like that I can't call up the "time to go" whenever I want and have to rely on the Kindle to decide when I need that information. 7. I don't like the absence of contrast on my monochrome "paper white" Kindle. Actually, the term is a misnomer and the appearance of the screen is more of a grey-looking white with a lack of contrast between the black text and the background greyish white background. 8. I don't like the absence of color. The monochrome text, text-shading, and images are very boring and unattractive. Enough! I am still trying to like this alternative to real hard-cover books and will continue to read the several books I have downloaded to my Kindle. However, the pleasure of having a real book in my hands and on the shelves of my library is going to be very difficult to overcome. My refurbished "paper-white" Kindle is my investment in trying to address my partners concern that I should "down-size" and already have too many books and don't need to purchase any more...while I staunchly refuse to down-size my mind. My Kindle may be a good investment, but I'm still trying to learn to love it...with an open mind.

The amount of stars don't cover a separate issue
I have an older Paper White that has never given me a problem, and I wanted one with more memory. However, it has a glitch that drives me crazy, and is very upsetting. Sometimes, too frequently, when I open a book, there are three squares with choices, but I'm not sure which will make it function cor
rectly. I have a choice of "Cancel", "Restart", and "Close Page". It seems to me that "Cancel" would be the choice to be able to keep reading. There's only "one" problem ... no matter which one I choose, it goes to the original opening page and eventually will restart. Super aggravating!!!!

Watch for Ads/Overall love it!
This device originally arrived without ads as described. However, it was not updated to the latest Kindle operating system so I had to do that to get the Kindle store to work. After updating, there were ads and it wanted me to pay $20 to remove them. After spending a lot of time searching for how to
get rid of the ads, a phone call to Amazon and they were able to get everything fixed. No more ads. Overall, the device is amazing. I just wish I hadn’t had to deal with all of the tech issues. It’s light, no glare. I love that it’s waterproof and portable. I had a Nook a very long time ago and it required a book light. I love the backlight on this one. You can set it so that at dusk, the light changes to a warm amber and there’s also a “night mode” in settings that is perfect just for reading in bed in the dark! Highly recommend!

This is the second refurbished Kindle in our family of two, wife and me with no problems. Works like new. My wife enjoys the larger screen than her previous model, Voyage if I remember correctly.

The Certified Refurbished Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition has exceeded my expectations in every way. The larger 6.8" display provides a more immersive reading experience, and the wireless charging feature is incredibly convenient. The auto-adjusting front light ensures optimal visibility in any l
ighting condition. With its ample 32 GB storage capacity, I can store my entire library and enjoy endless reading without interruptions. My one and only complaint, is if you read for about 2 hours it goes from 100% to about 70%, so I don't know what all the hype is about with the battery life. I also have a refurbished one, so maybe that is the case. But nonetheless, I love this kindle.

I do like the kindle. I’ve used other e readers or the kindle app on my phone but not an actual kindle until this. Paying extra for the signature addition isn’t really necessary though. It still comes with ads and it takes so very much to fill up the space in the kindle (not even close on mine). I’m
giving 4 stars instead of 5 because of the ads, the software itself seems a little slow sometimes, and because my refurbished one had some minor scratches on the screen. The scratches aren’t noticeable with a screen protector but it does annoy. All in all I’m glad I purchased, and I would say going for the refurbished kindle because of the price was a good choice.

I love my kindle! I downloaded 8 box sets of books almost immediately after setup. After I finish reading them I return them and download more. I read on my lunch break and before bed each night.

Lightweight, easy to use, great battery life WATCH FOR ADS
Ordered the certified refurbished version of the Paperwhite Signature without ads. Clearly, was shipped the version with ads. When I tried to remove them, Amazon charged me $20. A call to support was able to get the charge reversed. Unit is lightweight and easy to use. Display not as bright as the iP
ad I’m used to using but text is sharp and easy to read. Display and touchscreen just a bit laggy but not bad. Overall, worth the price for a kindle reader if you can buy it on sale.

Like others, the ad free version arrived with ads on the device. Calling Amazon customer support was simple and took about 5 minutes to get them removed.

Don't worry that it's refurbished
I wanted to try the Kindle Paperwhite, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I decided to try the refurbished version. No regrets. It looks new, functions as though it were new. I'm very happy with my purchase. I find it's perfect for reading on work breaks.

My first ereader and I did not know what to expect. I'd like it a lot, but when it's waking up from dormant state, screen is fully bright, which is not convenient at night. I got one that says no ads but there are ads everywhere. I called them and they said that these are not ads. They are " promotio
ns" on the lock screen. Similar to the Kindle app on the phone, there are a lot of recommendations on the home screen. Touch screen response time is slow so sometimes I'm scrolling and unintentionally hit another book due to lag. Overall, I like it.

I don’t know how I went this long without a kindle. I’m reading now more than ever and enjoying unlimited to explore a lot of books without buying. User interface isn’t the best, but is manageable.
