  • Everything I'd hoped for
Color: Black
I used to have an old 7th Gen Kindle that served me well for over seven years, but eventually its battery life started to wane badly, so I splurged for a new Kindle. Even though this is refurbished, it works perfectly, and I've been able to go days without charging it, even though I'm reading book after book. Lightweight, fits in your pocket (provided you have a big pocket), slides easily into any bag, a wonderful accessory for you to take anywhere. Your top choice if you're looking for an affordable and high-quality Kindle! ... show more

  • Bang for your buck!
Color: Black
If you want to read without your phone distracting you, I'd recommend you get this version of the Kindle. Mine came with a phantom screen effect when it's in dark mode, but I expected it when I bought into this price option. I don't mind the ads, I thought they'd be more of a pain on my side from what I've heard but it's nothing too big of a setback for my reading experience. I like how you can personalize your Kindle with its name at the top left corner. Since I got mine on National Be a Millionaire Day, I named my Kindle as the CEO of Amazon to fit the occasion. So far, it's worked well with no software errors or anything. If it does end up failing me down the line, I'll be getting the full-priced version of the same model. But time will tell, what will happen till then. It was money well spent on this little device and if you'd like to try it out, I'd say go for it. It's quite convenient. ... show more

  • Good purchase
Color: Black
I have a kindle fire, but this paperwhite not only holds the charge longer, it's smaller and fits in my purse. A great purchase for anyone who reads.

  • Love this!
Color: Black
I bought this to see if I would like having a kindle and to save a little money. Came in perfect condition- you can’t even tell that it’s refurbished! Battery life is great, compact size and feels great in the hand as well. I immediately decorated her as you can see and put a case on her. I’m so glad I bought this and it arrived earlier than expected. Overall, great experience and would recommend! ... show more

  • Thoughts from a new user…
Color: Denim
I was using my iPad mini for reading before this, but it’s heavy to hold up for extended reading and I’m having wrist and shoulder pain as a result.. Also, I don’t want to use the iPad anywhere it might get wet, so a less expensive device seemed like a good idea. So far, my impressions are mainly positive. I hope this helps someone thinking of transitioning to an e-reader. Pros - lightweight - easy to carry in a medium purse; in the folio-style cover I got, it’s about the size of the old Modern Reader compact editions - a bit too wide for a pocket, but comfortable to hold -lighting seems to be adequate, but definitely easier to read with a normal reading level of ambient light than when ambient light drops. - good assortmentof options for font sizes, font types, and margin and line spacing. -300 dpi text is reasonably sharp against the background, a bit like reading newsprint without the smudges of ink that newspapers have. - I wasn’t sure about the lack of scrolling, but the page turn requires such a small swipe it’s almost like scrolling anyway. Time will tell: - so far, for my purposes, the size and lower lighting of the basic model will do. If I were doing more outdoor and low-light reading, I think I’d want a model with more lights. A bigger “page” would be nice, but the larger sizes don’t seem that significantly bigger in size vs. price for me to justify the extra cost. -I didn’t anticipate this at all, but the grayscale covers in library, etc. are very disconcerting. I knew they would be but I hadn’t realized how much I rely on color cues, etc. when I navigate the library and searches on my iPad. -this model isn’t rated waterproof but for the cost, I can forego reading in the rain. - After several reading sessions, I can’t tell if it’s easier on the eyes than the iPad screen. The iPad is brighter, which I think makes it easier to see; but the lighting on the kindle seems to allow me to read with a greater range of distance from the screen. Overall, that makes the kindle easier to use while moving arms, etc. -the page swipe is smoother than I expected but there is the occasional blackout-type flicker as the ink resets. I read about that so I was prepared, and it’s faster than I expected, so I think I’ll get used to it over time. It helps if I blink while flipping a page. - this model has a raised edge around the front; I thought I’d prefer that because the recessed screen would be more protected. I’m starting to think that a flat screen would be nicer for swiping, and the lighting might seem brighter without the edge. Cons - as much as I wish the page could be bigger, I feel like making this a little narrower so it could fit in jeans pocket would be nice. It’s just a little too wide for that. - some people have noted that the device is very plastic-feeling; it does feel a lot like a plastic calculator, that sort of brushed plastic feel. It’s not a con for me because I knew I’d put a softer folio cover on it, but without a cover it would be more slippery. ... show more

  • Great
Color: Denim
I had a Paperwhite previously. Bought in ‘18 or ‘19. It was too touchy. I was forever accidentally changing the font size and at least once per book it would rapidly advance pages. I didn’t realize that was a flaw rather than something I was doing ‘til after the return window was closed. This is simple, no issues and I really like the denim blue. ... show more

  • Love this lightweight Kindle
Color: Black
I really like the feel of this reader, it is light weight and easy to hold. I always like to read before bedtime and this is perfect for that. I did not purchase a case for this one, but instead just put a pop-socket on the back to make it easier to hold when reading. It also fits nicely in my purse when we are traveling and going to appointments where there is a wait. So glad I found this one. The fact that it is refurbished isn't an issue, it came packaged just like a brand new one and it works great. ... show more
