    • Great for top soil. Not so much for peat moss.
I needed a tool to spread top soil on my lawn and this worked great. I recently Aerated and overseeded and wanted to add a layer of soil. At first I tried peat moss. But peat moss is too fine and doesn’t spread well. It comes out to quickly from the frame. I next used Home Depot’s generic top soil and the spreader worked too well. What I mean by that is that the generic soil brand has a lot of debris like wood and rocks. The spreader does a great job of filtering that out. But I quickly realized that the generic top soil was crap. I next tried Scott’s top soil and it worked great. It wasn’t too fine like peat moss, but it also didn’t have a bunch of junk like the generic top soil. This spreader worked great to add a thin top coat to about 1/3 of an acre. I took off one star because I question the quality long term. But even if I get 2-3 seasons, it will be worth the money. ... show more

    • Engineering and construction is mediocre
The assembly and construction of this spreader is just okay. It arrives in sections in a rectangular box, and you assemble it into the roller format. The main problem is the part fit of the screened roller is not great. Mine had two of the holes that you need to pass a screw through to secure the screened panel to a round end partially covered with stray metal that was sharp I had to bend away and cut off. And once constructed, the door that opens and closes to allow you to load the dirt doesn't close well, so there's a bump when rolling the spreader when it hits that (too wide) seam. Also, the spring posts that clip the shaft to the roller base and the handle to the shaft are just a one-ended springloaded piece of metal that's not secured to anything on the other side. It's just counting on the pressure of the spring to keep it from falling out. I wasn't super-impressed with that. However, even in light of the shortcomings, the manual pamphlet is in reasonable English and the product actually DOES the job, it just seems a bit overpriced compared to the competition, given the construction and engineering shortfalls it has. ... show more

    • The spreader arrived damaged, the center hole was bent on the solid side.
The spreader arrived damaged, the center hole on one of the solid end pieces was bent in. Luckily my husband was able to beat the piece into the whole to fix it. The holes in the screen part are too large to spread seeds, but it does work well for peat moss. I recommend this spreader, but not for seeds. ... show more

I've used my CEED4U 24 Inch Peat Moss - Compost Roller Spreader to get a layer of peat moss over a newly seeded area, and to lay down compost on my garden soil, and it works just the way I want it to.
