  • Perfect...+ Tips!
How can you beat the low, low, low price of this Cascade DW powder? You can't. It's so good at cleaning, and only 9¢ per ounce! I'm guessing it's approximately 9¢ per regular full load (2 Tbl = 1 ounce). Look at the (micro)plastic wrapped pods' prices. That's a BIG difference just to not have to pour it out. Seems silly to me. Here are some tips: I have very hard water in my rental, no water softener. Often there will be a film that vinegar can get rid of, by hand washing after, but who wants to do that? Not me. Trying to justify the more expensive DW detergents I looked at their ingredients. Huh - they simply add "Citric acid"! Then charge 3x the price ! Citric acid is inexpensive, made from the peels of citrus like lemon, grapefruit, etc., so it's also environmentally friendly, and so it's also less chemicals in our homes and Mother Earth. I buy that in powder form (a wind Mill pictured on front of package) and add about 1-2 teaspoons, basically just covering the bottoms of the soap and prewash pockets. (There's lots of other uses for citric acid BTW). Then fill the rest of the pockets with Cascade powder (using less or more depending on how dirty &/or how many items there are). Perfect! Glasses are clear and dishes sparkle, everything is clean! Now, 1 reason we're buying powder is to eliminate Plastic right? Another is to better regulate the amount of DW detergent we use per the type & size of load, but also... Ever have a pot or pan that, oops! got burnt crud on the bottom somehow? Simply put some Cascade in it, a spoonful or so, fill with enough hot water to cover burnt areas and soak overnight. It'll be so easy to clean in the a.m.! If it's really bad, or it didn't clean it completely, do same but boil the water & Cascade for 10 minutes B4 leaving it to soak a minimum of a few hours, best overnight. You'll be amazed! How are people getting the DW powder wet?!? (a few reviews complain about clumping...). They can't pour apparently (even tho any spillage will simply do the prewash bit) and the wrapped cardboard container (again, not plastic, yay!) surely will get wet if lots of water/liquid gets on it. If it's sitting in liquids obviously the detergent will then get wet also and ultimately dry in clumps, not powder anymore. Huh??? What are they doing getting it so wet in the 1st place? Don't understand this basic logic, unless maybe they're trying to justify the $$$ cost of plastic pods to cover their laziness and lack of basic skills? Seems easy enough to me to keep it dry. And takes what? a few extra *seconds* to pour vs throwing in a plastic pod. And believe me, I am no Suzy Homemaker. All in all, at 1/10 - 1/3 of the price of plastic wrapped pods, even with the additional citric acid, you just can't beat Cascade powder! I won't use anything else. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Best stuff around!
It’s really a shame that this stuff is getting so hard to find. I have a good working 20+ year old portable dishwasher. With it being from the era before they started making the dishwasher detergent gel and powder so concentrated, I have to be able to measure out what I need, which just doesn’t work with the ubiquitous gel. I can’t afford to be buying the pods, they’re way overpriced. My dishwasher only uses between a level and a heaping tablespoon of this powder depending on how dirty or greasy the dishes are, so this one box goes a LONG way, getting me the cheapest price per load! I’m not a fan of this “fresh scent” that has all but replaced old default lemon scent, it just doesn’t smell as clean as the lemon scent did. I’d really like to see this sold in bulk, but this size box is already getting me 2-3 months of doing 1-4 loads of dishes per day since my dishwasher is limited in capacity by the old “center arm up the middle of the bottom basket” design. There’s always a little bit of powder shed that “leaks” from the box, but have never had a problem like I have in the past with gels. Since I have to measure this out very precisely with a tablespoon, it’s easy to do so if I tear open the top of the box, but I’m looking for a good storage container since I’m getting clumping from the south Florida humidity. ... show more

  • I use this with Amazon dishwasher pods
Is it me ,but these expensive highly advertised pods are useless. I still have to scrub my pans and carefully rinse my dishes before they go in the dishwasher. For half the price I use the powder in the dishwasher outlet and the Amazon pod with the cutlery. It works far better than any expensive dishwasher pods I have tried. I also fill my dishwashing machine to maximum. Though I have a water efficiency model I still waste gallons of water rinsing! I hand wash all my pots and pans, as recommended by the manufacturers .alll dishwasher detergents are hard on ... show more

  • Good basic dishwasher detergent. But may not be ideal for all situations.
I decided to switch to this as more environmentally friendly than the plastic HDPE bottles of liquid detergent. Based on my reading, I was under the impression that powdered dish soap would be IDEAL for hard water. I live in a large city, so the municipal water is definitely on the harder side, though not excessively so in my opinion. Regardless, shortly after switching to this powdered detergent, I noticed the wheels on the slide-outs of my dishwasher were squeaking and sticking excessively. This had never been a problem when using the liquid Cascade detergent. After using the whole box, I returned to the liquid detergent, and within just one load, the squeaking had abated. And, for completeness, the Jet Dry has been full throughout my usage of either type of detergent. So, 4 stars because this detergent worked and got my dishes clean. And its in relatively environmentally friendly packaging. It lost one star because of the abrasive quality it seemed to impart on my dishwasher's pullout drawer action. FWIW, I have a base tier Miele dishwasher. ... show more

  • I use CASCADE in my Washer INSTEAD of BLEACH
I don't own a dishwasher now, but I've used Powdered Cascade for years for white laundry. Our coastal city water system is not very compatible with chlorine bleach. I hate the resulting dingy/tan white clothes. So, INSTEAD of BLEACH, I add a healthy dose of Cascade Powder to my white laundry loads and I have the whitest whites in town. It's also great to soak even bras, linens in, dirty white work socks or pretty much anything; and, I've never found a fabric (or the bra elastic) that it has damaged. I use a water+Cascade solution to sponge clean my white sneakers. I once tried a name brand "laundry additive" and within 2 or 3 washes, all my white clothes started to rot and rip. I've even soaked antique/heirloom crocheted items, sometimes for days, changing the water Cascade solution several times, as it lifted the yellow from them, restoring then to their original beauty without damage. In short, CASCADE isn't JUST for DISHES. ... show more
