  • Perfect
I ordered this same paddle from REI and each time there was a problem. I eventually gave up and ordered through Amazon. I couldn’t be happier. It came quick and without any damage/shipping issues. • Carlisle Magic Plus Paddle
This is an excellent glass shaft paddle at a very good value. I'm a recreational kayaker that gets on the water a few times a month and have one other glass shaft paddle. My other paddle, by West Marine has a locking mechanism for adjustable blade pitch, which I never use. The Carlisle only has a single pitch position where both blades are on the same plane. This is actually the easiest and best way for me, since assembly is straightforward and quick utilizing a spring-lock button. The fitment of the shafts of the Carlisle are smooth and solid, very precise, and no wobble or play. Nothing much 'magic' about it, just a very good paddle. I prefer the fiberglass to aluminum by a long shot. The blades are very tough, as I found out on a tight turning river in fast water when I got a blade stuck between obstacles. It bent way over and bounced right back with no damage. One thing I do recommend, and have on both my paddles are the 'Yakgrips'. A note on the Yakgrips; they tend to ride up or down on the shaft, and my way of securing them is to get a good, large, tie wrap on both sides of the grip, tighten them as tight as you can, and trim the excess with a razor knife to prevent a sharp edge of plastic from scratching your hands. ... show more

  • Got to use my new Magic Plus Paddle yesterday!
Color: Sunrise Size: 240 cm
Got to use my new Magic Plus paddle yesterday and I love it. Within the first few strokes I could tell a big difference in propulsion and responsiveness. I had to laugh after I had paddled a little over 3/4 mile and overtook several other kayaks and the gentleman asked me if I had a little motor on my kayak or was I just that fast. I finished my circuit of the lake and was back to the boat launch quite a bit faster than normal. I think I may go ahead and order another paddle for my older kayak. ... show more

  • Great value in a breakdown paddle for inflatable kayaking
I'm 6'2" and paddling and Aire Lynx 2 which is about 39" wide. This paddle in 230 cm has a molded-in slightly ovoid shape and the shaft has some texture from manufacturing. The molded-in ovoid will last forever. I paddle bare-handed. First trip was 72 miles of the Escalante River, a narrow creek with many spots barely 12" deep. This paddle was short and light enough to be easy to make sideways sculls or draws, in a more vertical style of stroking which was called for on this river. I also brought along the 240 cm version as a spare but it has a shrink-wrapped, slicker ovoid I found more tiring to hold, and the extra length was a disadvantage on this creek. We did over 15 miles/day average, one day 20 miles, pretty constant paddling (lots of strainers and obstacles) and no blisters. It takes down easily and is rigid when joined. There are better paddles out there - for 2X or 3X the price. This is a great value and plenty sturdy. You don't want to wedge the blade in a rock crack to hold yourself in an eddy like I do all the time with my hardshell Werner. We had an RS Magic for years until we loaned it and the shaft got sheared when a beginner wedged it between the boat and a rock on the downstream side of the boat. This is my new favorite for the IKs. Even if you have a $$$ primary paddle this would make a great spare. ... show more

  • Great paddle
The paddles are very well made and have no play when connected. I have used them for 100+ hours and have not found one negative thing about them. They are light and have 3 different settings that can accommodate different paddling styles. This is the second pair we have bought, one 230 cm and also a 220 cm. I believe they will go the distance. Oh yeah, the wife even attempted to crush one by accidentally shutting the garage door on it. The paddle was in an old fish tank and was standing upright directly underneath the garage door. The garage door was shut on it 3 times before I realized what was happening (because the paddle was bowing). I went and looked at the paddle that was in perfect condition. It took a beating and still paddles as it was brand new. The shaft did not permanently bend and the paddle itself never showed long-term signs of being bent. Pretty good if you ask me. Check the warehouse deals as I believe I got one pair for around $60.00 free shipping. ... show more

  • Love the paddle; love the brand.
Been paddling with this brand for 15 years. Needed another paddle and our local store changed ownership and told me only if I special order it; wait for awhile for it to come in; and quoted a high price. Got this Paddle in two day at a great price!!! So much for supporting local

This is the second time purchasing these paddles. They are perfect. Lightweight, smooth in the dip and push water effectively. I am a 61year old lady with 13.5 foot Old Town Castine.

  • Fun!
Color: Ahi Size: 230 cm
I LOVE this paddle. It's comfortable to hold and use for long days out on the water. Being available in so many fun colors was an added bonus for me! It held up well to an adventure paddle around brush and in shallow water, including pushing off the bottom of the creek and in gravel. I really can't say enough good things about this paddle! ... show more
