  • Does anyone actually use a white cotton gloves when reviewing their cards?
This item was a bit of a head scratcher. First of all, I don't know anyone that uses a white cotton glove to review their cards for grading. By using a glove instead of your hand you run the risk of mishandling and dropping your cards, thus damaging them. Second, the toploaders they come with are junk. They're bowed in the middle, a little soft, and foggy. It would have been better to insert a few Card Savers in here instead, considering this kit was made for grading. Lastly, the microfiber cloth seems suspicious at best. I ran my hand over it and it seems to have a certain coarseness to it. Basically, if I wouldn't touch a camera lens with it, I wouldn't touch a sports card with it. The loupe and the centering tool are standard, but with that said, I would have just bought those alone instead of this kit. ... show more

  • Good set of tools for selling cards
I'm starting to go through all of my old MTG cards from college, and this set will be useful for my higher valued cards when I am getting ready to sell them on ebay. The toploaders are just what I expected them to be, as are the clear plastic sleeves. I like that there's gloves to keep your finger oils off of the cards, a loupe for looking at close up details, and the plastic overlay so you can see how straight the card was cut at the factory. I'll probably use the loupe more for looking at coins, but it is a good tool to have in any collector's arsenal. It is easy to look through and magnifies as expected. I'm happy with everything in the set. ... show more

  • Not Enough Value, Better to Buy Items Individually
I've been in trading cards for over 3 decades so I know quality card tools / accessories when I see them...and unfortunately these, collectively, are simply not up to snuff. I'll go over each included item. The gloves look small, but do have a lot of stretch to them so they're fine in that respect. However, I can't say that I would recommend cloth gloves when handling some cards, especially sports cards. I've seen them used before where the glove will catch on one of the sharp card corners and ruin it. I'm simply not comfortable using them. The small black cloth meant to clean the card surface does work. It was able to gently wipe away fingerprints and light dust on the cards I tested it on. The gem loupe is one I have actually had and used for some time. It's a decent loupe, but nothing exceptional. It does the job and comes with a small case to hold it in so I would rate this as acceptable. The centering tool is fine as you can't really get one wrong unless you completely mess up the measurements. It's fine. The penny sleeves were actually quite good. The fit perfectly around Magic the Gathering and Pokémon cards. On Yugioh cards, they are loose, but this is expected. The toploaders are absolutely awful. I've tried toploaders from the likes of BCW Supplies, Cardboard Gold, and Ultra Pro and all of those are good to excellent. These were plain terrible. One of them came out of the pack completely warped and unusable. The rest suffered from myriad problems such as sharp corners, broken plastic bits inside the holder, and uneven cuts at the top. I cannot in good conscience recommend these and would advise you to NEVER use these toploaders if you care for your cards. In summary, there simply isn't enough value here. The loupe is fine, the penny sleeves are good, but they absolutely had to nail the toploaders for this to be worth your time since they are the single most expensive item in this package and they didn't. I would advise to buy each item separately or look for a better option. This one doesn't deliver. ... show more

  • Great product.
Quality of this product is great. Being able to check the center of a card and being able to sleeve it is great.

  • I REALLY wanted it to be more than the sum of its parts.
I'll freely admit, I've been holding off writing a review for this product. This has been one of those things you purchase, and REALLY want to like.. but have a hard time giving it a good score, simply perhaps because your own expectations were higher than they should have been. Let me explain. I have been burned by a certain large card grading company in the past. I've had cards grade at low values, when I don't believe they should.. and more importantly, I've had some cards come back, that clearly weren't the same cards I sent, in one such case, literally a completely different card... not even the same image, year, or even a CCG card... (I sent in a MTG card, and I got a Basketball card returned.. ?!?) Being that grading cards really IS a bit of a gamble, and you often pay $20-50 a card, to have them graded... anything I can do, to maximize the possibility of a card being graded highly, I will. Over the years, I've invested in a few products to help with this, and the results always still seem to be a bit hit or miss. SO, seeing this product appear on my feed, I quickly and delightedly ordered this.. hoping that it would be my magic trick to make sure I never get burned again. ... and brutal honesty... that was my own mistake. The kit arrived, and I immediately went to work checking a few things, such as the centering of a few cards that I wanted to possibly send off. However.. that brings me to my first point.... determining centering, especially on white bordered cards, can be a difficult at times. I have 2 CCG cards from an older SW TCG set, that are desirable. Both are the same card, and both have different centerings. How? I don't know, it's almost as if the scaling on the cards is different, printed in 100% vs 105% or so. Neither card is counterfeit, as I pulled them from packs purchased at a local big box store, during their initial runs, decades ago. So.. a centering tool is only as useful as the card that it's being used on. So.. that sort of frustrated me. Moving on to the loupe.. it's ok, but the lens on mine clearly has defects in it (which you can tell, since the defects move with the lens). I have no idea if that's a manufacturing flaw, or standard for loupes, but it makes it less useful than a simple glass magnifying glass I've used over the years. Everything else in here, is what I would call sort of generic versions of good products. The sleeves and toploaders are mediocre, with the toploaders especially being too rigid, having chips and cracks in them... which, to be brutally honest here, I've not seen in YEARS. Older toploaders from the 80s and early 80s tended to chip if you dropped them, due to the way they were made, but over the years, the technology has changed. Even a cheap PVC (only use these with card sleeves, that are NOT PVC) toploader takes a LOT of crack usually.. so I'm not really sure what these are made of. So.. that brings me back around to my final score, here. I was originally going to give it 2 stars, especially after seeing that at least a couple of other reviewers have the same experience I've had. However, the longer I thought about it, I'm sure this set would be fine for someone who has a small collection, or perhaps a good set to help a new collector start to learn how a professional grader might determine the value of a card.... but for a seasoned collector, it feels like perhaps I put too much expectations into this kit, and thus artificially inflated what I assumed the score would be, beforehand. So, to be fair, I'm splitting the difference, here, and giving it 3 stars. It's not a GREAT kit, but it's not as bad as I originally wanted to score it, either. So, I'd recommend it for a new collector, or someone who wants to learn a bit about how grading is performed, but as another reviewer said.. the individual parts, alone, can be acquired for less than the going rate of $20, and you'll get a few better products overall. ... show more
