    • Finally getting rid of toner cartridges
I am updating this review after using the printer I should have pulled the plug on an aging Epson printer months ago. Constant head cleaning, needing to print on "glossy" setting, to get text to print right. Cartridges lasting only a few weeks, with limited printing. This printer works well. Its does some internal things before printing, and after. The actual printing time is reasonable if you arent printing lots of pages. Printing black text and color pictures came out very well. The instructions are clear, easy to understand, and read. Perhaps the best thing about this, is the bottles of ink. They have the amount of ink printed on the ink bottle. Try finding the quantity of ink on a cartridge. Its hard to believe the FTC doesnt require cartridges to have the amount of product on the container. Every product sold by volume, has to have the amount of product in it, or the qty, or the weight labelled, by law. Cereal, motor oil, whatever. This comes with a bottle of each color, and 3 bottles of black. Replacement bottles seem reasonably priced. Lets hope it stays that way. A bottle of 70ml is less than a toner cartridge that has much, much less ink. Cartridges have chips. When its empty a chip is sent to the landfill. This just has an empty container. For 1 bottle of ink, perhaps dozens of cartridges aren't thrown out. The downside ? Canon has a website where you can set up your printing. There is no way I want Canon to know what I am printing, and when. Fortunately you can still send a print request directly from the image, and not go through the net. Through an FOIA response, it is known that Canon, and almost every manufacturer have agreed to put hidden symbols on everything printed. Not discernable to a naked eye. This info includes the serial number of the machine that printed it. We have to be alert and careful. ... show more

I seldom write reviews but this time I felt I must. This is truly a phenomenal printer for the price. I have been learning to image deep space objects for a short time and have a small (so far) digital library of images I wanted to put in an album for easy access to my work so I can easily track my progress as I learn the intricacies of astro-imaging. I tried some other printers but the quality just wasn't there and the ink was depleted with just a few prints. Then I got this printer. All I can say is WOW! The colors are true and the images detailed. The printer uses ink very efficiently and refills are quite reasonably priced. With astro-images stars are really important. Other printers I have used tend to either leave finer smaller stars out, or kind of fuse some of them together. With this printer I am getting pinpoint stars, colors true to what is showing on the monitor, and detail throughout the image that is simply not there using some other printers. While I am not an expert astro-imager by any means, I do recognize the importance of accuracy in these types of images. The attached image was scanned using the scanner utility. Its a little tricky at first to get the settings right for decent scans but it does a good job. The images were printed using the Cannon app that downloads when the printer is set up. It is quite versatile and takes most of the guesswork of setting up your photos for printing. The image I uploaded was printed on glossy brochure paper (that's what I had on hand) so when I get some regular photo paper I expect the print quality will be enhanced substantially.     • Day 1 - Easy Setup - Wi-Fi connect OK- Good Print Quality- POOR screen / Menu navigation
So far 50/50. Enough negative reviews to have me concerned, but I have used Canon printers before and have been happy, so I took a chance. A couple misses on the setup instructions, e.g. some of the orange tape that needed to be removed were not identified. The material quality is pretty low, very thin flimsy plastic on pieces that will get used, e.g. print refill caps. paper adjustment levers. Hopefully this will not be an issue downstream. Set up WiFi on Windows 11 and 10 computers, no issues. On Android, after many attempts I had to disconnect my dedicated IP VPN to get this to work. A lot of complaints about the ity-bity low quality screen. Have to agree with all the complaints, it is a real pain in the rear to use this to set things like Wi-Fi passwords. Hard to read, really cumbersome to use. The lack of touch screen and intuitive menu navigation is a real negative. ... show more

    • Excellent all around printer with economical ink refill options
Very versatile inkjet printer with large refillable ink tanks. I had it set up initially with a USB cable but very quickly I was using WiFi from my phone app to print gorgeous photos onto glossy photo paper. Printing on plain bond paper was less impressive but telling it the paper was mat photo paper put more ink on the page for much better color quality. However, it made excellent color copies from the flatbed, then it was easy to line up the back side of the original on the other margin on the platen, load the blank side up of the printed copy and copy the back side to make great quality double sided copies. Even better, it was convenient to press the right arrow and increase the copy count without pressing the color copy button for each and every page. Then it was publishing large batches of double sided fliers and invitations for page trimming and mailing with little drop in ink level in the four tanks. I keep a little light to see the prompts on the lcd panel which definitely could use a backlight. Previously, I had switched to a $99 printer that promised a year out of the "tanks" actual nonfillable cartridges which only held a few milliliters of ink and lasted only a month and cost $65 to replace so it ended up costing more in ink cartridges than the printer was worth. Worse, the ink smeared on glossy photo paper even after 24 hours so it was unsatisfactory as a photo printer. The copy function also required either pushing the button for each copy, or first scanning into the PC then setting up a print job, not a convenient stand alone solution. It was time to switch back to Canon with WiFi, megatank and flatbed copy even if Brand X had a backlit LCD panel. Oh Brother! ... show more
