Love it (and I'm a whiney complainer). I bought a Canon Pixma (NEVER MAKE THIS MISTAKE!) but soon learned that it was difficult to maintain. This is because the cartridges must go into the receiver thingy (LOL) at an angle or the print head gets damaged. This HP, like every HP I have purchased just snaps in easily. The print quality of this HP is fantastic printing color pictures onto regular copy paper! The Canon Pixma (no matter how much I tried aligning the print cartridges) prints horizontal streaks on every single color pic or diagram. All of my HP's in the past have lasted at least 2 years. The canon Pixma lasted 12 months, stopped printing, and will only flash trouble codes which translated to "TAKE THIS PO$ TO AN AUTHORIZED CANON SERVICE CENTER". One thing which doesn't bother me: the Canon printed much faster (but who cares with all of the problems?). ... show more

First off, the "What's in the Box" blurb on the page that I ordered from was incorrect: the printer does not come with a CD or a USB cable. It does come with the two necessary ink cartridges: one for color and one for black. That said, the CD is really not necessary, and I purchased a USB cable from Amazon for $8.99 which was delivered the next day. Setup was simple, following the very clear and easy instructions. Going online to 123.hp.com gets you to the software download, accomplished quickly in simple steps. I opted out of the automatic ink option, since this is a printer that will not be used frequently. After the connections and setup were done, the single test page printed, in color, very quickly. I also printed a page that was simply text - it printed very quickly (less than 5 seconds from hitting the "print" option on the app). There is a recent review as of this writing that complains that the printing is very slow, but I would guess that is a local software or connection problem, and not a problem with the printer, unless the unit is defective in some way. All in all very pleased with the footprint (it sits with room to spare on a 20" X 10" side table top), ease of use, functionality, quality, and value. Update 7-18-2023: Still a good, compact, reliable printer for light use and basic tasks. But I have it directly connected and dedicated to a single desktop computer, so I can't comment on the WiFi issues. I must modify my initial statement about how quickly it prints text - my first pages were MS-Word documents, and it worked flawlessly and fast. Printing text from PDF files is much slower, about 45 to 60 seconds per page. So not a printer I would recommend for high volume PDF file printing. ... show more

    • Decent simple printer and scanner for home use

Am using it connected via USB to Win8.1 machine. Didn't want or need a printer connected to my network. Only reason I'm buying this is because my 15+ year old HP Deskjet (with parallel port!) finally bit the dust, so needed a new printer that was small footprint and could do simple document scanning. Install was fine, i used the included CD but it's the same software if you decide to download it from the HP site. If you want to connect via USB instead of Wifi, you need to install the drivers/software first. Once it's installed the drivers/software, it will ask you if you want to connect to it via your wifi or via usb. If you select USB, it will then ask you to plug in the USB cord from printer to PC at that point in the install. Was able to do a test scan using the feeder in the printer right away, the included HP scan software is decent. Nothing fancy but provides all the requisite options (allows you to change contrast/brightness etc on fly before saving the scanned document, and gives you PDF or JPG option to save) It also allows you to scan multiple batches of documents, and then the HP scan software will "bundle" them into one PDF. Nice feature. One note - the included ink cartridges are specifically used for setup only. There is no ink in them at all. They are just there so you can plug in the ink cartridges into the slots in the printer so you can do the setup/install of the machine. So you need to make sure you order a set of black and tri-color HP65 cartridges if you order this printer, otherwise you won't be able to print even a simple status/self test report from the printer software. Kind of dumb but i guess for $70 they have to cut costs somewhere. It's very light weight, seagrass color is nice touch. The small footprint is good for storage, I leave it unplugged and store it in a closet when not in use, and it doesn't take up much shelf space. ... show more
