  • This is it, THE commuter bag (for me at least!)
I'd gone through several bags looking for the perfect commuter bag for my needs. A few things first: MY commute is via bike; and is about 5 miles each way, entirely on roads. Because my bike is my daily rider, I didn't want to put panniers on it, though I admit that they are likely the best option for a sole commuter bike, I needed a backpack that I could bring into the office with me. I needed space for my computer, gym clothes, lunch, toiletries & towel, and an extra pair of shoes. I started off with an Osprey Daylite Plus which is my general dayhike bag, and while I could make it work, it was literally JAMMED packed and I needed to strap my coffee mug and water bottle to the exterior. It looked bad and wasn't overly useful. I then tried an ortlieb bag, but found it had very little support, looked funny when not well packed, and lacked any sort of organizational pockets - it was just one big bag with a laptop sleeve. The MULE 30L met all of my needs. I've used t daily for my bike commute, and have also taken it for overnights where I just need a few changes of clothes and cane travel light. I absolutely love this bag, and so far zero issues. IT seems well made, I love the numerous organizational options, and the way the main compartment opens flat for organizing clothes, etc. is awesome. Separate laptop zippered area is a great thought and makes grabbing electronics for air travel a breeze. It's also comfortable, and the key / phone holder in the pack straps are an ingenious design feature. tl;dr: 11/10 on this one, seriously, if you've been on the fence, buy it! ... show more

  • Hit The Road: A CamelBak H.A.W.G. Commute 30 Bike Backpack Review
I enjoy cycling, work in an office, and have often thought of cycling to work. Although, my office has been at home for a couple of years. Plus, the weather in Texas isn’t necessarily cooperative. I ordered the CamelBak H.A.W.G. commute 30 bike backpack in hopes of one day commuting to work. This backpack, made in Indonesia from Cordura fabric, is designed with cyclists in mind. The shoulder straps have pockets for quick access to needed items. Spacious pockets provide storage for cables, electronics, and larger items. The backpack also will store a helmet when not in use and a reservoir for hydration on the road. The back has padding to create vent channels and uses a mesh material. This backpack is well designed for cyclists. I wish CamelBak had given more thought to the design for business or school needs. This backpack lacks an organizational pocket for smaller things. I want a pocket where I can easily locate my glasses, pens, earbuds, mints, etc. There is no doubt that this backpack is well designed. If the absence of a small item organization is an issue for you, this may be the wrong backpack for you. However, the CamelBak H.A.W.G. commute 30 bike backpack is well made and designed for commuter cyclists. ► PROS: The command center harness holds items most needed Weatherproof laptop compartment Multi-directional reflectivity Back airflow management Reservoir compatible Lifetime guarantee ► CONS: Lacks small-item organization ... show more

  • CamelBak with No Hydro Bladder
This CamelBak H.A.W.G. Commute 30 Bike Backpack with Weatherproof Laptop Sleeve was surprising for the wrong reasons...how did they release this without a bladder? This is a CamelBak, that is what they're known for, so why isn't it included? I will mention that you are able to add a bladder of your own if you have one, but I would've really preferred to have that functionality built right into it instead of requiring a DIY solution that may have unforeseen consequences down the line. Now on to what is good about this bag. This is a great backpack especially for someone like me who commutes with alternative transport like bikes and electric scooters several times a week. I have room for my 17" laptop, and 13" Chromebook, along with all chargers and cables, as well as things like a high-vis vest and of course water. The selection of pockets and places to store items is impressive and I really appreciated the high-quality zippers and materials used throughout this bag especially for a first entry in the commuter bag category from a company best known only for the hydro bladders and flasks they make. While there is no doubt in my mind that this is one of the better commuter backpacks, I still come back to the fact that without the hydro bladder this really doesn't "feel" like a CamelBak, which is pretty sus and leads me to believe this is an imposter...except it isn't. Overall, this is a good bag at a competitive price that offers a lot of utility in an attractive and well-made package. However, the lack of a hydro bladder makes this feel like a CamelBak in name only, although I should mention you are able to add a hydro bladder of your own if you have one. 4/5 stars. ... show more
