  • Good piece of mind
Style: PVC Fitting
I have had a tankless water heater for nearly 10 years and never realized there were drain pans available for them. Ironically the tankless was a replacement for a tank model that had the tank rust out and leak out.I know that drain pans for tank models have been around for years and are plumbing code in many places. I was already familiar with the Camco brand from molded plastic products I've bought for my RV, and are of high quality. While we were over 750 miles away on vacation, my tankless water leaked, thankfully I have a leak detection system that caught it and turned the water off before much damage occurred. After doing the post mortem on the tankless; I found an internal water connection that had failed and sprayed water on the electronic control board and ruining it; I chose to just replace the water heater. Installation is very simple, just drill 3-4 holes in the top and mount to wall under water heater. Mine mounted on a concrete wall, and I used Tapcons. I even mounted the little condensate pump inside this pan. Bear in mind that any internal leak in a tankless water heater will be under full house pressure, not just a drip. A lot of the leakage will be sprayed through openings on the water heater like around the front control panel; the leaks don't necessarily go straight down. I'm highly concerned about water leaks and realize this might not be an absolute defense, but it does add an additional level of confidence. ... show more

  • Great product for the price however do not go tankless!!!
Style: PVC Fitting
What you are not told in any of the reviews is the following: 1)Tankless water heaters require a special expanded port for venting as the exhaust is far too hot for a normal vent and could likely lead to a house fire if not properly installed by a licensed plumber with a great deal of experience. 2)Tankless water heaters will need a special dedicated gas line to provide the amount of natural gas needed to bring water temperature up to an acceptable level. 3) Tankless water heaters need to be serviced 3-5 times a year by a plumber via flush out valves as the sediment build up happens much more rapidly than with a traditional water heater. This is to the tune of $75.00- $200.00 per visit from the plumber. A special high ph vinegar solution is needed and the process takes about 2 hours. A great residual income for the plumber. Not so great on the touted fictional savings of a tankless over a regular water heater. 4) The amount of gas used from the special dedicated gas line is not that much less from a regular gas water heater if it is well insulated. None of this is told to the consumer in advanced or event published as far as I can tell from all the information I gathered and the reviews I read. This leads me to believe most of the positive reviews are fictitious and are not true consumer reviews. Be wary my fellow consumers when purchasing a tankless and be aware there is much more cost associated with this than meets the eye! ... show more

  • I like that it is made in the USA
I used this drain pan under a Big Blue whole house water filter. It allows me to change my filter cartridge and not worry about spills when I drop the filter housing. I like that it is made in the USA. The pan is flexible, but not cheap. The front and back bow in some so to reinforce it and keep it straight, I bolted some aluminum bar stock across the back of the pan when I attached it to the wall and also along the front lip. It looks good and provides the needed stiffness. Also, the drain fitting supplied is like a water heater pan drain fitting and would allow a small amount of water to remain in the pan. Instead of using the supplied fitting, I purchased a 1" union and simply bolted half the union to the underside of the pan with sealant, Now all water drains out. ... show more

  • Works great, does it job, but is kinda flimsy.
This may or may not be the best solution for putting a catch pan under a tankless water heater, but seems to be the only thing available, other than a custom made pan from a sheet metal shop. It is over priced for what it is, but is still less than having a custom pan made. The plastic seems too thin and brittle to be sturdy. The first one I ordered came in with a three inch long crack in the front edge. The box was undamaged, so it was not clear if it was broken in shipment or before. Amazon replaced it quickly, shipping out the replacement before the damaged one was received. The replacement arrived in the same size and type of box, but undamaged. As to the reviewer who gave it one star because he couldn't find the dimensions in the Amazon listing, that is unfair to the product, he was really reviewing the Amazon listing. Apparently Amazon has since added dimensions to the listing, they are there as I write this. BUT, they are slightly wrong, and do not indicate which dimension is L, W or H. The dimensions in the second picture at the top of the page is correct, at 21 1/2"W x 13 3/8"D x 16"H. Also the product description states it is designed for water heaters up to 13" deep and 20 1/2" wide. The product does what it is designed for and was easy to install. I just removed the bottom mounting screws of the water heater, pulled it slightly out from the wall and slipped the top (flat portion only) up under the water heater mounting bracket. The instructions clearly state not to put the water heater bracket over the ribbed portion of the back panel of the pan. I then marked the pan for the screw holes, removed it from the wall and drilled the holes. It is thin enough that I could probably have driven the screws through the plastic without drilling, but the cracked pan experience gave me concern that it might crack by forcing a screw through it. The only downside to the design is the fitting mounted in the bottom. It sticks up about 1/2" to 3/4", so any water caught by the pan will not all drain out. On the other hand, that could be an advantage, since with some water standing in the pan, you would be more apt to notice a leak. I only gave it 4 stars because of the thin, flimsy plastic. Based on my experience with shipping damage, I believe if this ever gets bumped very hard, it will crack. ... show more
