  • Great for the price. Sturdy daybed, but not a good couch substitute.
Color: Castanho Size: Twin
This daybed was a great purchase for when our 9 year old niece and her 3 year old brother stay on the weekends. Our niece adores the bed and won't let her brother on her upper mattress. If you're an adult and wanting to use this, you probably don't want to be over 200 pounds, and then I would say it's not for a full-time option because it's just not as sturdy as a full-sized bed to me. It IS a good size and nice and sturdy for kids or smaller teens. It's plenty large enough. We paired it with an 8 inch pillowtop mattress for the upper and a 6 inch, less robust, foam-type mattress for the lower from a local Big Lots store so we could see and return the mattresses if there was a problem more easily. Good thing, because the upper one we first got had oil stains and had to be swapped. These sizes have worked PERFECTLY for this bed with no issues. An eight inch mattress on top leaves a little more than one full back and end boards exposed above the mattress, in case you want to fill that space with pillows for some back support during the day. Like some have said, the lower trundle is a bit difficult to pull out on carpet, but I'm a 200 pound man and have no issues. The kids can't do it but the wife manages. I prefer it that way, as the lower trundle stays exactly where it's placed without moving all about when it's under the upper or pulled out to use. We only pull the lower out about 2/3 the way since our little 3 year old nephew doesn't need the whole mattress really, and we are often reclining in a couch opposite this bed to watch late night tv as they fall asleep, & it'd cause clearance issues if fully out. The color to me (we got the "Castanho" finish) I find is close enough in color to some of our light oak and pine furniture to not be an eyesore. They didn't have the current white finish back when we ordered this in February 2023 I don't think. Only the Scandinavian Oak and Castanho. The finish is not super-tough, & we already have 3 or 4 scratches, but that's from the nephew tossing larger plastic toys around while playing. If your kids are not too rough, or if this is adult use only, you'll likely find the finish adequately tough. It does SMELL a little funny for about a week or so, but it's completely scentless after about a month, & that could have actually been from the packing materials to be honest. I found assembly easy, except for most people's mentioned requirement to pre-drill the holes in the mattress support boards. Otherwise, they will split I am sure. The support boards seem to be much cheaper spruce or pine and not very dense wood. You will find many of them warping in different directions. I laid them all out after the frame was assembled and separated the ones with the worst warping and used most of them on the bottom and near the far ends of the mattress. I figured this would have the straighter boards supporting the upper, most-often used top mattress better. The bottom mattress would normally have a smaller lighter child on it. The only REAL gripe I have about this daybed is it's almost uselessness as a daytime sitting option. I was hoping with the right cushions or throw pillows this would be like a second couch in the "sitting" room we have it in. It just takes TOO MUCH padding or pillows to pad the back to allow people to sit on this as another couch. Usually you sit on the edge with zero back support, or kids can sit all the way back with just their feet dangling off the side of the upper mattress. It's just really all about the width of the mattress and the bed frame. It's just WAY too wide to function well as an alternate comfortable sitting option. I now feel EVERY daybed that takes similar sized mattresses will be like this. Not really the products fault. But if you go thicker than an eight inch mattress on top, you will likely have ZERO chance of placing pillows towards the back to give ANY back support for adults witting on this as they'd fall off unless it's against a wall. Some people have said this bed is creaky and makes sounds like it's cheap. I have barely heard a noise from it except the occasional bang when a child hits a piece of wood while playing on it vigorously. Just tighten the fasteners adequately, but show restraint if you're a man (or strong woman) as you can definitely damage the hardware if you go ape on the tightening. Overall, I'd buy this again AND recommend it unless you REALLY need extra sitting space that's very comfortable for adults. Kids can manage. Nice-looking piece of furniture! ... show more

  • Great bed
Color: Castanho Size: Twin
Very pleased with this bed for our guest bedroom! Great bed, quality & price. We layer with lots of pillows & have it utilized as a couch when not a guest bed. It was very easy to put together with 2 people. Some reviews say it’s not very sturdy, the directions say to apply pressure when putting in support posts which we did and it’s very sturdy. I love the warm color of the wood. Love it! ... show more

  • Looks great...challenging to assemble
Color: Castanho Size: Twin
I love the looks and sturdiness of this daybed. It did take two of us a few hours to assemble it as the wooden pieces are heavy and need to be held exactly level when tightening screws.

  • Great value! Simple modern design. Just needed a couple tweaks!
Color: Castanho Size: Twin
I decided to write a review to provide some helpful tips on this bed. Some background: we were looking to add a bed to our second guestroom but anything bigger than a twin would take up too much room. We also felt like having a twin bed was a bit of waste since only 1 person could sleep there. Enter this trundle daybed bed (two twin beds for the space of one twin bed!). Perfect! I looked at many designs and they all seem to gear towards too childish/girly (i.e., something you find in a dollhouse or lacked style (all the fabric ones). I really liked the simple design of this daybed that I felt could last through changing trends. Just change the pillows/blankets to fit your style. A note on color, I got the "Castanho" color which looked like an ash brown in pictures but is more a warm brown. I believe another reviewer described the color as more "rustic cabin" less "mid-century" -- I think that's a spot on description. Although I would have preferred a ash brown, the warm brown still looked fine. Putting together the bed took about 1 hour. The instructions were pretty clear. Essentially you make the top bed first then you make the bottom trundle. The last step for both parts is to drill in each individual slat. I decided not to do this. TIP #1: Use Velcro for the slats instead of drilling them in I ordered some Velcro Tape of 30ft and 3/4inch wide for $18 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GRBEK2), I probably used about half the box. I put the rough side on the bed part then cut up the soft parts in strips to put on each end of a slat. I wasn't sure how well the adhesive would stay so I also used a staple gun to add two staples to each soft strip on the slat. Then just secure the slats on the bed and trundle using the block spacers provided. This whole process probably took me 30mins. And now the daybed won't be a pain to take apart or move should we ever need to. TIP #2: If you have high carpet, use furniture sliders instead of the wheels So our room has super high pile carpet and the trundle wheels were essentially useless because they were too short/small. I decided to remove the caster wheels and instead ordered some furniture sliders. I got a set that had 8 carpet and 8 hardwood sliders for $12 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B088P6CP4L) -- note, the width of the discs (3.5in) was the same width as the trundle slat where the wheels went. I combined 1 hardwood slider on top of 1 carpet slider than just placed it under the slat in each corner where the wheels were originally attached. I thought about securing these sliders with tape or glue but it wasn't needed -- the weight of the trundle kept the sliders in place. The trundle now slides super easily. TIP #3: Install some straps to make pulling out the trundle easier So because of the high carpet, getting our fingers in between the open space of the trundle and the bed was a bit difficult. I installed two leather cabinet pulls from Ikea (search OSTERNAS leather handle 6" -- currently $16 for two) on the front of the trundle. Now our trundle bed is easy to pull out. All in all, very happy with our purchase even though we had to make a few modifications. ... show more

  • Poor construction
Color: Castanho Size: Twin
The bed arrived with one of the long outer support beams cracked across the screw holes. At first I was hoping the manufacturer would let me order the one piece, like Sauder or IKEA always do. When they (quite rudely) refused and I had to pack the whole thing up for return, I realized that there were splits in several of the slats that would support the mattress. They weren't visible at first glance because they weren't obviously broken, just kind of separated along the grain if you were handling them and looking closely. Meaning the pieces meant to take all the weight could have collapsed at any time. Repacking this was like putting together a Jenga tower, and I had to borrow a truck and get a 120lb box that's two feet taller than me to the UPS store. So that's worth considering if you aren't sure; it's not an easy matter to return it and you won't get any support like you would with other brands. I know I'll be ordering all my other furniture from the other two instead because of the manufacturer support. ... show more
