I've read good reviews for this air compressor and was excited to get it as I want a quiet one. It arrived damaged so I returned it. Update: I got one from Home Depot for the same price. It was delivered undamaged, and works GREAT. Very nice compressor, and extremely quiet.

The media could not be loaded. My old 20-gallon compressor finally died after decades of service, and since most of my air-tools now have battery-powered equivalents, I decided to downsize a little and get this quiet and oil-less compressor. I could go on about what made me pick this one, and how quiet it is relative to my old one, but it doesn’t matter. The compressor may have some nice features, but if it doesn’t work well as a unit, it’s a complete waste of time. Long-story, short: I got one, and it had problems, I replaced it through Amazon, and the replacement had more problems. I contacted the manufacturer after several days of unanswered voice messages and emails, and after sending them a video of the problems they told me to return it to my retailer if I didn’t like it. Foolishly I thought that maybe a 3rd unit from a local retailer might be different, but that one was the worst of all three. What was wrong? All sorts of things! The first one never got up to 120 psi, always stopping around 115 even I adjusted the stops, which makes me think that the motor is just underpowered. It also had a very audible clink or ping coming from the motor. The second one had a faulty pressure gauge, and a faulty pressure-relief valve. It also never quite reached 120 psi (based solely on the readout from the smaller hose-gauge. The third one had a missing rubber front-foot, a bent wheel-bracket, and was also missing the plastic tube that is essentially the silencer. It drained rusty water after the very first time I aired it up and drained it, and as you can see in my photos, the internal tubing was already thoroughly rusted. Additionally, the third one also had plastic lines from the motor to the tank instead of copper like the first two. One or two things wrong with a product can be overlooked if you get great support from the manufacturer. That is what I hoped for when I contacted California Air Tools. I thought that they would perhaps send me a replacement gauge/valve and that would be the end of it. Instead, the representative tried to explain to me how a compressor works. I explained that I’d been working with compressors for the last 20 years, and I tried impressing upon him that I knew what I was talking about, but he insisted that things were just fine (despite my sending him the same video I’m posting here). Finally, he decided I was mistaken and told me to take it back to the store if I didn’t like it. Between the rust, the inadequate plastic lines, the faulty valves and gauges, and the rude customer service, it’s just not worth getting this compressor. Received the compressor.the box looked great..inside the box not so good.looks as if they sent me a used compressor.tank is filled with water and it won't drain out rust spray all over the plastic bag covering compressor.and wire has some type of putty on it..pretty sure they sent me a used compressor when I bought new.absolutely disappointed in this product.if I could rate zero stars I would.1 star is good enough bc it is quiet ... show more

I was really excited to make a decent investment in a nice, quiet compressor. Initially hearing it run I was very happy, but I soon found out that this compressor was not built well at all. It had trouble keeping up with light duty nailing, and then the motor died right around the 1 year mark. I’ve owned less expensive compressors that were much stronger and lasted a decade. Picked up one of these for my home shop 5 years back, it was only used sporadically until about 2 years ago when I went into production mode. Operated in a nearly dust free environment with ventilation, out of nowhere the motor locks up, unit starts humming and releasing a burning scent before blowing the shop 20amp breaker. The thing is the same thing happened to the unit at my day job. Make sure you've got these things switched off when you leave the shop. You don't want to solely rely on the breaker popping in the panel box to stop setting your shop on fire. That being said, they were fairly quiet while they lasted. They are much much quieter now though after giving up the ghost. I'd be less annoyed if I didn't witness the same issue twice. ... show more

After having a friend recommend this product i ordered one, it arrived 6/18 with a damaged copper tube, yet the box was in good shape. I contacted their customer service and after a few days (6/25) i was SUPPOSEDLY shipped a new part. I have a tracking number that has not been received by USPS yet, and they have stopped answering my emails. Seems like a good product, the few minutes i was able to run the compressor it was incredibly quiet, but if i can't use it almost a month after purchase I have a hard time purchasing more in the future or recommending to other people. ... show more

the pump itself is very quiet but even with the regulators turned all the way up the motor overheats after it's initial fill making it useless for atleast 20 minutes. It is in no way capable of sustained operation.
