OK, until now I have barely understood how a dead blow hammer works. The main thing I know is that I am supposed to get one to put a grounding rod in for my electric poultry fence, which is going in in a few days. I already like these two hammers for their bright orange color, and I've used the flat PVC end for some regular brad pounding and to place wooden nailers, cut to friction fit between studs, with good results. These seem to (relatively) gently do the job of placing a blow with less rebound. The brass cap is apparently for metalwork. I'll have to see which end to use for putting in rods. You can hit things with these hammers and they will work, but won't last. You can hear the sand or whatever they put inside, shaking around when using them.
