Bumkins Chewtensils are intended for Stage 1 of baby led weaning – introducing babies to the concept of holding a utensil and feeding themselves. We made Chewtensils from soft, textured silicone that’s easy to grip and is gentle on tender gums, with bendable heads for safety. The utensils are safe to be be chewed on before transitioning to silverware. The back of the spoon head has sensory bumps to stimulate gums. Weighted, textured handles allow little ones to hold.     • A good sized utensil for those that are BLW

I purchased these prior to researching BLW feeding. More so, it was just a cute spoon that I'd be able to feed my baby and for simply that, it works great. The handle is very short and it isn't easy trying to get purees out of jars. This, however, would be perfect for parents who are trying to do BLW feeding for baby. My 5 month old is easily able to grasp the spoon and feed himself. The utensils are made with a few little nooks and crannies, which can be frustrating to clean if you've left them out with food dried on it - but after soaking or just some good scrubbing, it's easy enough! If your baby is teething, I'd be cautious to not let them chew on them. I don't think they'd last too long if that were the case. ... show more

My son started using these at 12 months. While he had tried other baby utensils with varying success, the short length and round handle grips made these so much easier for him to use. The very first time he picked them up he was able to use them properly. I could tell by his face that he was happy mama had finally given him tools he could use! This is the 4th set of these toddler utensils we’ve gotten, and overall, they’re great! Easy for my toddlers to use, a great size and shape for their hands, for the most part very sturdy. I say for the most part, because the metal core of the fork handle started poking through the silicon at the bottom after just 2 or 3 uses. We’ve had no issue with 2 of our other pairs, and it happened to one of our other sets after a few months, but I thought that might have been because one of our toddlers had been chewing on the handle. This time, though, it happened almost immediately when no chewing had occurred. It might just have been a manufacturing defect on the one, but that’s the reason I give these 4 stars instead of 5. ... show more

When our first was learning to eat we used the NumNum Gootensils that were so highly rated but she really struggled to use them herself. With our second we started with these instead. From his first week eating solids with this spoon he can get it to his mouth accurately on his own and has a much easier time picking up the spoon when it’s placed on the tray in front of him too. We have tried giving him food on the NumNum spoons too and he cannot navigate them nearly as well. ... show more

My (not quite) 6 month old LOVES this spoon. He wouldn’t stop grabbing the regular spoon when feeding, and we were afraid of him jamming it into his throat- it was a constant battle with his hand on one end of the spoon and ours on the other trying to provide a little control. These utensils have a guard to prevent putting them in the mouth too far and it works fantastic! My baby is beyond happy to eat with some independence.
