Description

The Fukien Tea is a tropical evergreen shrub originating from southern China. This plant works particularly well as a mini bonsai, but is also a great houseplant because it appreciates warm temps in the winter months making it a perfect choice for anyone in the city or who does not have the benefits of a yard. Delicate white blossom bloom almost year round and small dark green leaves are shiny with little white dots on the surfaces which are often mistaken for insect infestations. The trunk has wonderful brownish red bark which contrasts beautifully with the dark green of its leaves. Each live plant is shipped with the Phytosanitary Certificate as required by the USDA.

  • The BEST place to buy Bonsai!!!!
Honestly, Brussel's Bonsai is the absolute best place to buy Bonsai. That's it. If you care to know why, and the pictures I have aren't obvious then read some more. Brussel's Bonsai not only has the best prices you will see ANYWHERE, trust me i have check every bonsai seller online, but they also include FREE shipping, they sell on amazon, its super duper fast, and to put the cherry on top (most important) their trees are absolutely stunning! Every tree in my pictures is from brussel's (except the little ginseng thats on my bookshelf, i got that from ikea and repotted to make a bonsai). If you see any review lower than a one star do NOT believe it. Brussel's has excellent customer service, so if you aren't happy or your tree is dead on arrival (not a few weeks or months later because you don't know how to take care of a bonsai) then they will happily assist you. I have purchased bonsai from a few other places, most charge INSANE shipping costs that would double any prices you see online not including tax. Brussel's is by far the best and only place to shop for bonsai. Now keep in mind you need to know how to take care of each plant, its very very easy but only once you know how to keep your plants alive. Also each species of bonsai is different and requires different care. Please do your research! In case anyone is curious. First Picture: The small tree on the left is the Fukien Tea (Small), middle- Chinese Elm (Large), Right- Podocarpus (Large). 2nd picture is the same 3rd picture: Left/Bookshelf- Ginseng, Middle- Podocarpus (Large, different one), Right- Ficus Grove- One size only. 4th is the Ficus Grove close up 5th is the Podocarpus close up ... show more

  • My first dying bonsai purchase
The fukien tea arrived with very moist soil and the tips of the larger leaves were black and soft to the touch. Not saying its been overwatered but that is a sign of an over watered plant. All the leaves had the tiny white spots on top typical of a fukien. But along with them were black/brown spots and small blotches on top and underneath the leaves. From what I've read, its most likely a fungus. The tree shed about 70% of its leaves within two days after arrival, but for a fukien thats to be expected, they are very sensitive and hate being moved. In the soil I spotted a couple of rust colored bugs but they burrowed and I couldn't identify. No infestation by any means, but I also don't want to see bugs on a newly purchased bonsai. Most of the leaves turned brownish black and fell off. Of the leaves that remain, most have black tips and/or black/brown spots and blotches. And there's no sign of re-growth. After much consideration, I removed the remaining leaves that had any signs of fungus and now it really looks like its on life support. I then made a fungicide of liquid soap and water and sprayed the remaining leaves and trunk. I knew before buying that a fukien tea would be challenging. I followed the instructions perfectly until it was clear that it needed serious help. At this point, I'm not very confident it will survive, in fact it may already be dead 😕 But I'll give the fungicide some more time to work and will post an update if by some miracle it pulls out of this death spiral. ... show more

  • Gift for my hubby who does not have a green thumb…he tried.
This is not for beginners! My husband (who is a beginner) wanted this bonsai tree for Christmas. It arrived pretty healthy, unfortunately the planter was cracked. So we ordered a new planter, replanted the tree and followed the instructions to our best ability. It’s now mid January and the poor thing is not looking well. It’s lost most of its leaves and the stems are dying, as shown in the photo. We are still hoping by some miracle it snaps out of it. I don’t like the idea of spending that much money only to kill the poor thing less than a month after receiving it. ... show more

  • Excellent/Beautiful Tree, BUT Beware of Infestations!
I have my beautiful tree indoors and it appeared completely healthy for a few weeks, but then I began to notice very small white things on the leaves. Then the buds began to wither. Now there are black things adhering to the smallest branches: aphids! I am going to have to take measures to kill the pests, but in the dead of winter, the last thing I want to do is spray them with Raid in the house! (Or the garage....) This is a very disappointing development, especially since I did considerable research before I bought my tree and decided that the reports from other customers about their trees becoming infested was an anomaly, and took the chance. I sense that this is a mistake and caution others to be prepared to deal with pests. Too bad, because the service was pretty darn good and the tree and pot were beautiful. I was stoked. Now I'm worried! UPDATE: A year later, I am pleased to report that after I took care of the infestation with insecticide soap from Bonide, and the tree is thriving. ... show more

  • Amazingly Beautiful
This came in 2 days (said 2-3 days) in perfect condition. It was so well packed not any spillage of soil, very impressive. It looked even better in person than on line. Lost very few leaves initially (maybe 5%) since leaves and flowers are a joy to observe and manicure. Best gift ever.

  • Is it truly a Fukien or just a sweet little tree?
This sweet little tree has been doing really well for the 2 months I’ve had it, blooming and producing new leaves. It did go through the normal leaf droppage, and adaptation period. The leaves are vibrant green that mature to a beautiful dark green, however, they lack the signature white dots of the other Fukien Teas I have had in the past. This tree also produces long vines with white or pink flowers at the end. Again, unlike previous Fukien trees I’ve had flowered very close to the base of the leaves. Whatever this tree’s identity, it is a hardy little thing that enjoys the West facing window I have it in and doesn’t seem to mind being watered every 3-4 days (manufactures suggest watering every 2-3 days). ... show more

  • Great gift, but dead “)
This is a great gift idea. Arrived fairly well packaged with okay instructions. Instructions warned that the plant may lose a few leaves but all of them?? I am an experienced gardener and took great pains to save the little guy, but sadly ...... The plant looked great on arrival in a very nice bonsai pot. Soil was still moist upon arrival so not sure what went wrong - maybe too cold? ... show more

  • Absolutely beautiful-better than expected
This tree is the bomb. It has a fabulous shape, the thickness of the leaves is dense, packaged extremely well for protection-I've had this tree less than a week and it is thriving. The instructions state that I should not be alarmed with up to 30% leaf loss due to the stress of shipping and the new environment. Not true for me. I followed the specific directions provided and this little delight has shed very little and it is not even noticeable. What a great value!! I'm checking out other trees from this vendor Oh, it came in a REAL pot. A beautiful cobalt colored clay pot. It fits the tree perfectly so I'll be repotting it in a few months and using this pot for my rooting tree stump. So, it is reusable too. ... show more

I bought this for my husband's birthday, he has wanted a Bonsai tree since he was a teenager and watched Karate kid for the first time.....fast forward 37 years later and he is now the proud owner of his first Bonsai tree. Bonus, months later and it is still alive and thriving! He has 2 brown thumbs. Easy to grow and care for, comes in a nice pot with an educational book for reference. ... show more

  • Must live bonsais
It arrived in fair condition. It did look a little sad. The next day the leaves started to fall off. I have since put it under a grow light...but I had to buy an appropriate floor lamp and an appropriate light bulb. It is flowering like crazy, and she she appears to be a happy camper. It is beautiful. ... show more

  • Not like the photo
Arrived in great condition and very quickly. Problem is the tree is vertical for the first 4 inches before it was trained to bend. Expected something more like the photo. Still, a nice tree for the money.

  • Infested with scale and mealy bugs
The tree came well packaged and seemed to be very well cared for. I am a plant lover and currently own 30+ different types of plants, so naturally my husband bought this for me as a birthday gift. After 2 weeks of following the care instructions the leaves began to yellow and fall off, now, some leaf loss is normal while it is still acclimating to a different environment but the amount it shed was shocking. about 75% of the leaves fell off and it wasn't until the tree was becoming more bare I noticed it was infested with Scale and Mealy Bugs! This tree had only been around a couple of my cacti in the time I had it and knew 100% that these bugs could not have been contracted from my healthy plants. After seeing the infestation It made complete sense as to why the trees health was declining, as these bugs literally suck the life out of plants. If you decide to purchase, PLEASE check your tree THOROUGHLY when it arrives before its too late. These pests can be killed but it takes a very experienced green thumb to be able to revive plants that are on the brink of death because of them. ... show more

  • beautiful packing of live plant
the Bonsai arrived in top shape with careful packing material, and the tea tree has already flowering. One of the best plant that I have order from online rather than buying them directly from nurseries. The tree is healthy and green, the soil is moist and I placed it under grow-light to help it revives from its long journey. Will definitively order any other Bonsai from this seller. As a Chinese person with a deep cultural root to dwarf tree, this bonsai is also trained according to the three realms: Heaven, human and earth harmonious trinity. the Nursery staff did a gorgeous job in training the tree. ... show more

  • Sweet little tree
It was well-packaged and despite being shipped during cold weather, it experienced minimal leaf loss from transportation shock. I have been caring for it as instructed, and to my delight, the tree is covered with tiny white flowers and has plenty of new growth!
