  • Great Stove Hood & You Need to Know These Things
Color: White Size: 30-Inch Pattern Name: Range Hood
We replaced an identical one we had because our daughter used oven cleaner on the top and made the biggest mess you ever saw. The paint came up only partly leaving a sticky gooey mess that never went away. Worse than this, every dirty piece of lint, dust, bugs -- everything stuck to it. The nightmare from there is that all the aforementioned debris stuck so good, you could no way wash it off! All of this is not the to the detriment of this great item, of course. I love this hood's simple and functional design. It worked perfectly right up to the day we finally replaced it because of the above. It is not overly loud, no more than any other fan over the stove. What you need to know is this -- it does not come with the butterfly -- Broan BP87 Vertical Discharge Damper, 7-Inch. Be sure to get this item or you'll wait to get it before getting the install job finished. We just cleaned up the old one and reused it. Also, the older version had a painted (black) electrical cover. I don't know if it matters, but save the old one (if this pertains) if you want the painted electrical cover. I opted to keep the new one which is lighter in weight and just the plain galvanized steel which is better looks-wise with the aluminum-colored vent screen. Not that it matters much as hopefully one doesn't spend much of their time looking up into their hood. It's a thumbs up for function and long-lasting performance. Our old one with the ruined top was 28 years old -- still working perfectly. Update after installation. It is even more quiet than ever. Also, the new hood's front edge now has a lovely curve to it rather than the sharper angle on the older one. Very Nice! ... show more

  • Perfect for my mobile home
Color: White Size: 30-Inch Pattern Name: Range Hood
Update: It's been two years and the hood has worked flawlessly. I've had to buy a new range hood though because of a grease fire. This one is surprisingly still under $40 and I was so satisfied with the last one that I bought it again. Another reason for repurchasing this one is that I've already done all the preliminary work and it will slip right in. No figuring, cutting or buying additional parts. I'm sure I'll get more than two years out of this one as long as I don't burn my house down. Original review: The hood in the mobile home I purchased worked, but was beyond cleaning. I purchased this one as it fit perfectly in the space and it was very inexpensive. My mistake was not realizing that this unit has a seven inch exhaust when my old duct work was only five inches. I had to purchase a reducer and some metallic tape which solved the problem. I also purchased a seven inch damper as one does not come with this range hood and didn’t want to reuse the nasty one I pulled out of the five inch duct. The metal on this hood is pretty thin, but for the price you can’t expect heavy duty. I recommend a two person install. The unit is not heavy, but is a little awkward to hold up and try to screw it in under your cabinets. If you drop it or bump it too hard you will damage it. The mounting points can be easily damaged if the hood is not held steady while installing. Once installed the odds of damaging it are slim. I made a template out of cardboard so I could cut a larger hole in the bottom of my cabinet with a jigsaw to accommodate the seven inch exhaust. I marked holes, drilled them and put screws in leaving the screws protruding so I could lift the hood up. I slid the keyholes onto the screws then tightened the screws. I had trouble holding the hood steady while tightening the screws and bent a couple of the screw keyholes in the top of the hood. After bending the keyholes back into reasonable shape, I took styrofoam from a different purchase and used it to hold the hood up. I added washers to the screws (after painting them gloss white) to give more strength to each of the four stress points were the screws go. My old hood was hard wired so I knocked out the plug in the back of the hood and ran the wire from the wall into the hood. (Prior to screwing the hood to the cabinets.) You have to remove one screw that holds the cover for the electrical components. Remove that cover, make your connections and put the cover back on. If you have an electrical outlet your need to plug into then you can just wire in a power cord rather than hard wiring the unit. The hood came with four short screws to screw it to your cabinets. I had to come up with longer screws because these would be much too short. Mobile home remember? My cabinets are particle board including the bottom. Under the bottom there is a half inch of open space and then a layer of sheet rock. My screws needed to go through the sheet rock, through the open space and into the particle board. If you have nice cabinets made out of actual wood then the short screws should work for you just fine, but if you have nice cabinets you probably won’t be choosing this budget range hood. I’ve got the hood up and running. Some say it is loud when the fan is on high, but it’s a fact that my old fan was louder. (Mobil home. Built on the cheap.) I put a nice bright LED bulb in rather than that old incandescent bulb. My installation is low enough that you do not see underneath the hood at all. If I do look under there it looks much like the nasty old hood it replaced – just clean. My hood arrived in pristine condition, but I can understand why so many people end up with dinged or damaged hoods. This is very light thin metal that will take damage easily. The install can be done alone, but would be easier with two people. A couple of the front seams on either end do shed a little light when I turn it on, but I wouldn’t have noticed it if I hadn’t read about it in another review and it’s only noticeable if I have the hood light on with the kitchen lights off. A dab or two of caulk or a piece of tape will fix that. It’s in a spot underneath where you’ll never see the tape anyway. The front face of my cabinets hang down almost an eighth of an inch lower than the rest of the bottom of the cabinets so even though the front of the hood fits tight and flush to the cabinets, I do have this minor crack of a space between the hood and the cabinet bottom on the sides. Caulk it. I am happy with the hood. It looks much nicer than the ancient one it replaced and works great. I got this bad boy for only $40 although the price does fluctuate. ... show more

I purchased the wrong oven hood but it seems it would’ve been easy to install as I’ve purchased another from the same company and it was very easy to install.
