  • An excellent buy for the money.
I have held off reviewing this boat until I had a chance to use it. The Good: My first impression was that the boat is pretty good quality. There are lots of "D" rings to lash things to which is nice. The wrap-around rope is very nice. The boat is very stable and has won the approval of several local fishermen who know a great deal about boats. I was worried how the boat would handle a 185 lb engine, Fuel tank, and battery, plus a big guy in the back. It does very well. One wants a good bit of weight in the front when alone, and the D rings hold the milk crate that I fill with rocks, for that purpose. My wife and I were able to drag it back into the water, with engine and gear, several feet through the sand, after getting left high and dry by the tide. It's a good bush rig. The boat rides well and is stable, and handled well with 4 good size people. The Bad: The rear seat is too far back and interferes with the tiller handle on tight left turns, I just edge off the seat and then there's room. The seat can and sometimes does interfere with the tiller handle when I raise and lower the engine also. The middle seat/oar lock combination is better suited for rowing backwards than forwards. There just isn't any seat that's located correctly for rowing, in relationship to the oarlocks. It's doable in an emergency and I didn't get this boat to row it. The other main problem I have is that I have cavitation/aeration problems. I can't get the boat up on plane because at about 1/3 throttle or more, I lose propulsion and the engine revs, I have to slow back down. I haven't identified the problem yet, but I'd say it's getting the right motor setup for the boat, not a boat problem. There were only 2 reviews to read before I purchased the boat, one was good and the other was gibberish. Maybe I should only give it 4 stars but I'm just too darned happy with it. I'll update the review as I use it more, so far I have only 2 days experience with it in the Aleutians. Update: 3 years later I've had a chance to play with it more. I figured out the planing problem in Kodiak, it was a combination of too little air pressure and uneven loading. With my son in the middle we got it going a gps calculated 22 MPH with a 25 HP Yamaha 4 stroke. We probably could have gone faster but it was choppy and it was easy to oversteer, but it was great at almost full throttle. It also planes nearly level, where most metal boats raise up in the front. The coating on the plywood front portion of the floor is peeling and I need to do something about that, I did not do a good enough job keeping it dry when not boating. ... show more

  • Decent boat
Here is my experience with the BRIS 15.4' boat. When the two boxes arrived they were demolished. I was sure there would be damage. To my surprise the boat was fine. A few days later I opened the other box and found one of the floor boards broken. It appeared to be from shipping and after contacting the seller he took $50 off the price. It seems like an easy fix so I accepted the discount. Next I noticed the stitching on the floor under the nose on the inside coming apart. I contacted the seller and sent him a picture. He said it is fine and that is normal. My first time out I had an issue with a motor I was given for free so as to not ruin the fishing trip my neighbor and I paddled out to sea and fished the whole day. The boat performed great. The second time I went out to sea with 3 people and fished the whole day,the boat performed great. The 3rd time I went out with six people and my new 20HP four stroke engine and the boat performed great except the one way self bailing valve broke off and I had about a foot of water in the boat. However the performance of the boat was not affected. The water was under the floor boards and only noticeable when accelerating. This would cause the water to pool up around the back submerging my feet. Contacted the seller and he quickly shipped me a replacement valve. The 4th time I went out to see it was my brother and I. We spent 2 days fishing and had a great time. The boat performed great except the replacement self bailing valve got sucked out when draining water at the beach. As I tried to put it back in the whole valve (cheap plastic) broke. The size of the boat is just right for fishing with two people and gear (large cooler). My issue with the boat is you cannot go fast in choppy water because these boats bounce over the waives and not cut through the waives like a hard bottom boat. Other than that, its well worth the money and in calm water I'm sure it would be a dream. Currently I am not using a trailer and if I was to do this all over I would get an inflatable bottom boat sacrificing more performance for portability. Now that I have this boat I see a trailer in the future. ... show more

  • MONSTER Of a Boat!
Dont even hesitate to replace your thoughts of spending 10 grand for a "Zodiac" name! These BRIS boats will challenge them on almost every key feature!!

  • Larger than what I thought
It is very large but sturdy. The floor is tight during installation but is a little loose on the open water. The hole to inflate the keel is a little offset. The transom wood isn't the best marine grade (I had to drill it to install launch wheels. The seats are well designed and built. Overall, I love it. Above are all minor issues that wouldn't prevent me from purchasing it again. ... show more

  • So far so good
So far so good. We are loving this boat. We have a small outboard motor attached and it’s done well. Seeing other reviews I am concerned about durability in the long term but I will update my review down the line if anything comes up.

  • Just as described seems to be well made and sturdy needed a little more detailed assembly instructions
Just as described seems to be well made and sturdy needed a little more detailed assembly instructions. Got it assembled and mounted 30 hp Suzuki on it . Haven't had it in the water yet hopefully this weekend weather permitting.Had in the ocean several times now rock fishing it has held up well fishes 4 men and all our gear just fine .Great boat for the price got a trailer for mine so I wouldn't have to disassemble it cause it's not easy.Had a problem with the seats coming off the holders .Tried turning them over and sliding them back on and the haven't come off again. I've had the boat over 2 years kept it in a garage partially inflated , used it 5 times and the seams are coming apart . Keep patching them and it starts leaking somewhere else . Emailed seller let's see if they stand behind it. ... show more
