  • Edited. Must have got a bad one.
Style: 1-Switch Panel
Edit 27 Feb 2021: So I decided to give this thing another shot, installed it in the same spot, same wiring. I couldn't quite get the 3 way to work how I wanted, but that's not the brilliant's fault. This time it didn't decide to brick a 300 dollar light switch, which I have to tell you is a nerve wracking experience. It works great! I would absolutely give it that last star for IFTTT integration, but being able to check my Ring cameras and ecobee and assorted smart things devices is pretty fantastic. If I was made of money I might switch most of my house to these but that would probably cost more then a certified pre owned vehicle, and would never happen without some ability to make my own triggers and services. 4/5 until more integrations! Edit: Brilliant support rushed me out a new one. This one seems to work! I am still out the lights it blew out, but that's a few dozen dollars. This little guy looks to be working this time (though I installed it in my closet because there isn't much damage it could do there!) Gonna move this into the kitchen when I can kill power to a larger area. It seems to be doing everything I want it to now, though I was hoping for an easy interface to IFTTT.. Once that happens anything becomes fair game! Gates, non-ring cameras, it's going to be the face of my home network! (Qnap has the brains part done.. though it's getting old and may need a huge CPU upgrade since I'm asking too much of mine at the moment!) Pictured is the simple connect to a ring floodlight on my incoming road. Very nice! Still I'd love to see this guy opened up to a few more things.. mostly IFTTT! I wanted to like this, I really did. In fact I purchased a few thousand dollars worth of other products specifically because they worked with this. The first location choice gave me trouble, in fact it decided without having the test button depressed it was going to dim all the lights attached to it. Goodbye non-dimable lights, now I have to replace those. Things happen, I understand. So let's try it in another location, maybe it's just not the right area, after all that was a 3-way spot. Round 2 results in (my fault) bending a wire to breaking inside my wall. Oops. That'll be expensive to fix, doesn't ruin my mood though! This thing is gonna be awesome.. Next location doesn't work and complains (though it turns on) so.. I get ahold of Brilliant! They back and forth through emails wasting about 3 hours, sure I am used to that, probably fine they have to sort out people that should have just followed the instructions, or watched the very simple how to videos. I can be patient! Then they call me we talk through it, they seem like good guys actually, after troubleshooting a bit I decide to find an ultra simple location, they agree and I get wiring, well I end up knocking out the internet and my wife who is working from home gets disconnected, my misadventure has now morphed into a bad evening, but hey these things happen I'll just be sleeping on the couch. Finally I find a suitable location on a different breaker then my wife, our internet, and it's a simple dumb switch! Same error. Well I email Brilliant, who agreed to call me when I do. I wait 10 minutes, 20, 30. I call them. "No one here to take your call" Now I'm mad. ... show more

  • Mediocre with terrible dimming quality
Style: 3-Switch Panel
I bought two of these for a renovation after getting hyped on the tech magazine reviews. I’ve had them installed and working for almost six months and I’m… underwhelmed. Pros - sleek look, good integration with other smart home products (except Lutron?), highly customizable routines, good phone app integration, customer support that answers, nice user interface, customizable motion detection Cons: 1. Absolute garbage dimming quality for LED bulbs and fixtures. Seriously, the dimming is so horrible, particularly compared to a Lutron Caseta. The sliders accelerate to high brightness with barely a touch and never take LED bulbs down to a nice, moody level, even at 1 percent. I even upgraded my recessed LEDs because the Brilliant technician thought my cheap LED recessed might be to blame (even though my Lutron Casetta does a lovely dim with the same type of fixture) and it’s still just as bad. Whatever dimming technology Brilliant uses, it’s complete trash with annoying, hypersensitive sliders. Don’t buy these if you’re looking to dim your bulbs to sultry lows because it’s not gonna happen. Seriously, I had a much, much nicer dim with high quality Soraa LED bulbs on a crap $15 dimmer than Brilliant. 2. Screen quality - I don’t know what kind of panel Brilliant uses but they have horrible viewing angles like an early 2000s laptop. Looking straight at the panel, it’s crisp. From the side, blacks to look purple and green. For the cost, I wish that it the panel was nicer to look at, particularly because thats the main presentation of the procuct. 3. Smart assistant integration - I use Alexa and I have no idea what Brilliant is talking about saying it can replace an Alexa. The microphones are no where near as good as a dedicated Amazon speaker and the Alexa voice that comes out of the Brilliant speaker sounds like a small child talking through a kazoo. There is zero chance you’ll be packing away your smart speakers for this thing. Overall - this product is underwhelming to the point I wonder if the magazine reviews were more of a product advertorial. These things just aren’t that great. I’m kinda stuck in their ecosystem but if Lutron or Leviton comes out with a competing smart panel I’d jump ship in a hot second because their dimmers and device control are much more reliable in my experience. Brilliant, if you’re listening - fix your dimmer tech and and annoying sliders. They totally suck! ... show more

  • Solid Smart Switch
Style: 4-Switch Panel
I purchased several of these for my home. It's a solid smart switch. It's attractive, works well, and has fairly customizable software. I like that you can upload your own images (pets, family, art) to the screen. I use it to control my lighting, Sonos sound system, and even video chat with people in different parts of the house. My guests compliment me on the switches regularly. It's reasonably intuitive to use, although it can take a while to get it set up. Wiring up the 4 gang units can take sometime, but then, I don't see how they could make it any faster. The units are expensive but when you compare it to Legrand Adorne or other luxury smart switches they seem fairly comparable and contain more features. One thing I'd really like to see are higher quality faceplates. The plastic they use is very cheap and shiny. Higher quality plastic, textures, more colors, or even metal would really take these to the next level. Last, I wish they'd remove the Brilliant logo from the cover. I don't need advertisements in my house - it's tacky. ... show more
