I pulled the trigger and got a two-gang Brilliant control and 10 dimmer switches for my new house. They’re like the Tesla of light switches right? What could go wrong? Apparently everything. The control installed no problem. It’s annoying the control is needed in the first place as I really just wanted the dimmers to control a series of Hue, LIFX, Nanoleaf and SmartThings devices. But anyways. The dimmers are AWFUL. I’ve spent two days trying to set these up and they’re a nightmare. First, I couldn’t get Brilliant to find them at all. I started by writing up two and Brilliant would not acknowledge their existence. It doesn’t help their app interface is god awful and it’s confusing to figure out how to even manage installation. It takes about 10 steps to even get to the mode where you can find them. If the app decides to let you see it. If you’re partway through and installation it always want to take you through a wiring setup, like can you just remember I already did that. After hours of trying the app kept saying “could not create mesh network” or “could not find device”. I have strong wifi on 2.4ghz, that’s not the issue. Eventually, I got Brilliant to find ONE of the two switches. But it’s been stuck in “updating” mode for 10 hours. (It says updating takes 4-6 hours? What even is that?) I tried resetting the other one and it’s just sitting there blinking unable to pair. Pretty pissed off since I spent $1000 on this switch system. The control with the touchscreen doesn’t do anything my phone can’t and the interface is whatever, I can live without it. The idea of having native integration with multiple devices sounded nice but holy hell these switches are defiant. So if you’re considering this system for the promise of dimmers look elsewhere, some have been able to be successful but this has been an installation nightmare. ... show more

Brilliant dimmer is terrible. Would not connect, after a couple of hours it connected but worked sporadically. Tried to fix it and the device went unresponsive. Not worth it. Also why they say it can be used for 3-way, this is not true, it is more bypassed and then connect via other brilliant devices. ... show more

I'm not sure if I am able to fully express the frustration that I felt with this device. Even though the main panel has a few kinks (that I hope the manufacturer will work out eventually), I was pretty excited to try this out. I've been working on making my home a fully "smart home." For whatever reason, my house has regular ol' ordinary light switches. The kind you flip up. Thus began an odyssey I will probably never fully disclose. Long story short, I had to completely overhaul the designated switch, which turned into switches--plural. Trips to the dreaded home store (you know the one), where there are so many people, but none can actually help you! Anyway, I guess I shouldn't hold Brilliant responsible for my inattention to this detail. I wanted to warn you. Just don't make the same mistake as me. Considering I had no issues installing the control panel, I don't know what the deal is with this bad boy. The performance is inconsistent. Sigh. I had such high hopes. I really like the brilliant smart home control, so I bought these switches for the rest of my apartment to make every built-in light a "smart light". After going through the process of installing these and setting them up 1 by 1. They never show up in homekit, making them nothing but worse than normal light switches. If I wanted a normal light switch that can only be controlled from the switch, I wouldn't pay $70 for a worse touch-sensitive experience... Clicking a normal switch is a better. user experience. I went through their site, and sure enough. In some obscure hard to find page, it mentions that these switches (for no apparent reason) does not work with homekit. Even though they require the homekit compatible brilliant smart home control as a hub. You can control them from their hub as well, so there is absolutely ZERO reason that these should not be able to show up in homekit an controlled from the hub, just like any other smart home mesh / hub situation. Incredibly disappointed, strongly considering sending them back, and replacing them with a $20 smart switch from Wemo that does work with homekit.... But it is so much effort to install and uninstall these :( If they worked with homekit this would be a 4-star review. ... show more
