I have a 10 foot ceiling so had space, but no idea how big 81 inches would be! The light easily arcs over my chair as I wanted it to. Assembly was somewhat difficult as the marble base weighs about 50 pounds. And you have to brace up the pole as you’re pulling the cord through which was a bit awkward. I am glad I had an ottoman to brace it on. But it’s very sturdy and provides great light and the pole does not wobble. the shade sort of snaps together. The brushed steel is beautiful. It is a beautiful lamp. I love the arc and the very heavy marble base. It is just the right size for my living room; though it does block my view to the art on the wall; not a deal breaker. Unpacking and assembly were not too terrible. The box was heavy, and sliding the foam-encased product out onto the floor took my walking round and round, like a squirrel cracking a difficult nut. Once the foam case was out of the box, I again went around to every side cutting all the taped sides to open the foam case. Once it was open I found that it was not TOO difficult to assemble. If you have assembled furniture from Ikea, this is not too complex. Though, I would have liked clearer, numbered step-by-step directions. After some full-body wrangling on the floor rolling the heavy base like a wheel trying to thread in the arc pole into the floor pole, without whacking the lightbulb end on the floor, I finally took it all back apart and connected the floor pole to the arc pole BEFORE connecting the pole to the base. wow. I like the texture of the shade - sixties modern- and the whole look is very nice. A diffuser would make it better. I replaced the lightbulb with a brighter LED bulb because the 60W was too dim for my use. And now it really could use a diffuser! I fell in love with a gigantic version when I stayed in a hotel, which I'm sure would be as expensive as my mortgage. So I'm really happy to find a good quality, affordable version of this lamp. Instructions were easy to follow. Lamp is quality and the base is marble and quite heavy. This lamp is secure. Super cute too. Sent pic to sister in law and now she is going to purchase. Truly took me longer to open the box than to assemble. Lots of tape.

If I could I would have 3.5 stars overall because of a glitch in my help desk experience. My wife likes to use a floor lamp for extra lighting to knit while sitting on the couch, and it was time to replace our old lamp that I was never fond of. After searching for styles and function we we settled on this lamp from Brightech (BT). We also like to support small business and this filled that interest as well. Additionally, BT has earned many strong ratings on Amazon which supported our purchase decision. We bought this lamp as a "used-like new" item from Amazon. We have to date been satisfied with the cost-value of several purchases this way. Our only disappointment about this purchase is we received it with missing washers for assembly; complicating that, the assembly instructions were unclear about whether there is only one washer or two washers needed. The confusion is in the enclosed assembly instructions: There is a specific illustration clearly showing to install a washer on the underside of the floor base, and that washer is included in the parts list - albeit without size specs that some furniture instructions include. There is another illustration that suggests that a second washer is to be placed on the top of the floor base, but it is not clearly enlarged or highlighted as was the other and it is not included in the parts list. But I figured the fix should be a pretty simple. I was willing to spend a couple bucks to pick up a washer or two at a local hardware store - my reasoning is a couple missing washers is not reason enough to repack the whole thing for a return, and me picking up basic washer(s) would be a quicker fix rather than wait for someone to send me the washers. But I first needed to verify if a second washer was needed, its size and that of the listed washer. I found reaching out to BT to be less helpful than I expected based on the plethora of good reviews. As a small company they only provide email-based assistance. Responses to most of my messages were same day (west coast location and I am midwest), but incomplete. It took a few days of email exchanges to get one answer at a time on separate days. Assistance was further delayed by the BT help desk requesting my Amazon order number and subsequently saying they could not provide warranty support (which would only be answering my 2 questions) because they could not confirm my order number and they incorrectly presumed this lamp was probably sourced by a third party and shipped by Amazon. Eventually the BT help desk gave me the size for the bottom washer of the floor base. And after I inquired yet again the next day I got a message that they had updated the assembly process to now use a washer on the top of the base. Make no mistake, this product is attractive, functional and seems quite good overall making it a good value. I suspect the information delay challenge I had with their help desk may be a blip of occasional human error. ... show more

First I’m a 71 Yo female and I had no problem at all putting this lamp together and setting it up (with help from other reviews). Outside of just getting the box the lamp came in into my house - it weighs almost 50 lbs! I love how you can adjust the height of the arc; the ease of putting the lampshade together (how ingenious!); and how sturdy the lamp itself is! 👍 the base is a gorgeous black marble - too bad it won’t be visible the way I have it set up. 🤷♀️. Altogether it is beautiful and is well made! ... show more

I'm really impressed with this lamp. It comes with a thick genuine marble base roughly 2 in thick, which makes it sturdy for such a large lamp. The overall look is impressive, it would fit well with any modern decor. It is a large lamp and definitely makes a statement, not some afterthought. It was easy to assemble and the quality of the hardware and finish is very good. It comes with a bright soft white bulb and has a floor switch, but I like the fact that it uses a standard bulb that can be switched out, I plan to switch it to a remote controlled bulb which will give more options in terms of dimmability and light color temperature.
