  • Boya vs. Movo Lavalier mic comparison: Which is best?
style: BY-M1
I specialize in tech reviews and as a professional photographer and filmmaker have a good understanding of value vs. quality when it comes to recording devices. What’s different about the near identical looking Boya vs. Movo wired lav mics. Read on: In a word, nothing. The specs and performance are identical You can buy by price yet neither provides near professional audio quality suitable for podcast, broadcast or interviewing. The tonal range is adequate yet slightly muffled. That’s not good enough for the uses above, in my opinion. The long cord can be an advantage if you don’t want to go wireless yet it’s cumbersome otherwise. This unit is indeed an excellent value if good enough is fine with you. Once you compare to a better lav mic, there is no going back. I use the superb Sennheiser ME-2 which works well wired, or with its wireless system that I also own. For less, I have heard good things about the Rode Smart Lav+. Although it costs four times the price of the Boya or Movo, you will get a full and natural sounding tonal range. By the way, I absolutely love the Boya Cartioid mic which can easily be attached to a mini tripod. It’s the best buy of any mic I own and does delivery pro results! ... show more

  • Strong mic!
The media could not be loaded. I love the extra long length on the cord and it’s easy to use. My voice is a lot crisper and cleaner when recording with this than a phone mic, but it picks up a lot of background noise. I’m not in a super busy area but I can hear the car’s driving by and the clock ticking on the wall across the room. I’m not sure it will be good for me as I want to record art tutorials. I think it will pick up a lot of movement and and will be a pain to edit every time. How that works with multiple people in conversation over speaking in interviews may be another issue for editors. A sound proof studio will be your friend. But over all a really strong mic ... show more

  • Good but not great constructon quality. Very good audio for the price
style: BY-M1
For a lavaliere mic that costs $20-25, depending on the day, this is a good buy. The mic capsule is a little above average in size. The cord is very long and that's great when you want to shoot wide but nit invest in wireless mics. The construction is the biggest issue. The inline amp unit (where the battery goes) has a button for switching between Smartphone (also serves as the "off" position) and for DSLR cameras. That button was very stuck when I first got the unit. It took way more effort than I was comfortable with pushing a little plastic slider. And the button did get off kilter when I finally got it to move. It works ok right now. It has a weird, sort of splashy feel to it. Like it's not fully in the "on" position when it's there. This will most likely be the point of catastrophic failure when it does happen. The other big disappointment is the mic clip. After only a handful of uses, none of them rigorous or stressful, the mic side of the clip just broke. It's a little U-shaped plastic bit. You have to slip the mic capsule into it. It pops in and then you shouldn't really have to touch that part again. This week, as I was putting it on the speaker I was trying to record, it just... gave way. I clipped the tie clip part on and the mic capsule just flopped out. The U-shaped clip had just broken. absolutely nothing happened to predict that. That's a real bummer. Overall, it's a good unit, especially for the price. Pickup is nice and round so it's good for getting both sides of a conversation. Noise is at a minimum for the type of mic it is. clipping can be managed with mic distance (but don't forget to turn off the DSLR amp first). Roll-off doesn't seem to bad but I haven't recorded many basses yet, baritones at best. ... show more

  • Perfect accessory for iOS devices
style: BY-M1
The media could not be loaded. First, look at the price. It's cheaper than the Audio-Technica version of the same microphone. Next, look at the features and all the ways this microphone can be used. It can connect to Android and iOS based smartphones and tablets to enhance audio performance for video recordings. It can also be used with a DSLR camera as it has an option to be power driven (battery included) which takes away the need for a shotgun microphone when vlogging or doing reviews. Lastly, check out the cord! It has a 20' long cord - unheard of for most lapel mics. This allows you to walk around and do demonstrations on video without having to move the camera. No loss of audio as the microphone is attached to your lapel and moves with you. The audio pickup of this microphone is omni-directional and it definitely makes a positive difference when using it. I picked up this mic after doing some research for microphones I could use with my iPad and iPhone to enhance onboard sound. This one is perfect for my uses and at twenty bucks the price was right too. An excellent accessory I highly recommend! ----------------------------- NOTE: If you go to playback a video you recorded using this mic and you don't hear anything, unplug it from the device and you should hear the recording. --------------------------- ... show more

  • Inexpensive Mike that Works Well
style: BY-M1
Easy to use. Works reliably. Sounds good. The long cable is a bit of a pain. I worry about how long the very thin cable will last. But if you're careful, it's a good product.
