    • Good maybe for pliers but not for cutting
I had unwisely given my set of miniature pliers to my son and needed a replacement. This set looked the best buy for the money, so I ordered them. On receiving them I immediately checked for closing and cutting. The first test was to hold each plier in a closed position up against a bright light to see if any light would show through the cutting surfaces. Any light showing through would indicate a gap that would not allow cutting. The plier used for gripping all showed good closure. All the pliers used for cutting failed the test except the end cutting nipper. To further test I used a piece of lamp cord I would estimate to be about 18 gauge. The cut with the insulation on was "OK" but was not as clean as I would have expected. I could tell that it was not cutting the insulation cleanly. To further test the cutting, I stripped the wire of the insulation and twisted the strands together tightly. These stands are about the thickness of a hair. When attempting to cut the uninsulated wire, the cutting edge just mashed the wire flat without cutting any strands. It is my opinion that the manufacturer spent about money on the case the pliers were stored in than they did on a couple of the enclosed pliers. If you don't need precision work this set of pliers will work. I ordered a set that cost almost three times as much and received them today. They passed every test with no problem. I haven’t used these much but they haven’t let me down. They have worked with ease at each use. Seems to be a pretty good product.
