  • The cheaper model is a better deal
Size: 12 kW Color: White
I bought this unit (model US12) for my kitchen. My contractor friend told me it was over kill to for the kitchen sink and dishwasher so I saved this unit for later to install in my bathroom/laundry room and bought the lower powered and cheaper US 7 for the kitchen. It took me awhile to get to where I could installing this unit for my bathroom and when I did, it failed right away. However Bosch tech support was fantastic and had a new unit out to me in less than a week. After getting the new one installed I found that the cheaper US7 model puts out more hot water with less power draw. When I turn the flow down on both units to get the max temperature output, the US7 constantly gives hotter water at the same flow rate. I can still get a hot bath or shower but the US12 is drawing 50 amps to do it when the US7 only draws 30 amps. Both are set to high. ... show more

  • Love/hate relationship with this product
Size: 12 kW Color: White
I first purchased the 12 kW under-sink hot water heater back in 2006 when it was the PowerStar AE-12 (prior to Bosch acquiring the company and re-branding it as the Tronic 3000). It was installed professionally as part of a kitchen remodel, with a new 50 amp circuit run to power the device. Without a doubt, this device solved our issue of getting fast, hot water in the kitchen without running the tap for 1 - 2 minutes. We considered it one of the best upgrades we made to our house. Since then, we've replaced this device 3 times, including once in each of the past two years. Eventually, the device stop heating, either due to an issue in the thermostat or the flow detection mechanism. Because our kitchen is set up specifically for this device, it's much easier to just buy another than consider switching to another brand. We've become pros at replacing these at this point, and each new device brings us a few years (on average) of hot water before it dies and we buy another. Our main suggestion to you: buy the extended warranty. Luckily, we purchased our prior one in 2016 with a warranty (it was offer by Amazon from Assurance at the time). When it died in 2018, we were able to make a claim and get a full refund with little hassle. We purchased a new one, which is working well, but again purchased an extended (3-year) warranty, this time from Square. I won't be surprised to be replacing this device before that warranty is up, in which case I will purchase another and a new warranty. ... show more

  • Amazon offers compatible units from other manufacturers that claim to have better regulation. If my 3rd unit fails
Size: 12 kW Color: White
This is my 4th 12KW Bosch water heater. I first purchased a Bosch Power Star AE12 from Lowe's that failed after 9 years. I ordered a replacement Bosch Tronic 3000 an hour later, but realiized the next morning that I would be without hot water for at least ten days waiting for delivery, so I ordered another Power Star AE12 from Amazon that arrived in 6 days. It failed 4 months later, but it only took 30 minutes to install the backup. I promptly ordered this Bosch Tronic 3000 without much thought. I then looked at the unit that had just failed. The part that blew up was a BTA41 triac that I suspected was being used to switch 50A despiite a manufacturer's rating of 40A maximum A closer look reveal two heating elemments, each drawing 25A and switched by conserrvatively rated separate triacs. I could see no difference between the two models. Dawbacks to the unit are: 1) the triacs are being used as on/off switches, causing house lights to flicker as the 50A load comes and goes, rather than using the triacs to regulate the portion of individual cycles; and 2) the flow switch has a fairly high threshold, so the heater is on only for high flow. Amazon offers compatible units from other manufacturers that claim to have better regulation. If my 3rd unit fails, I will install the 4th and order a new brand. ... show more

  • Super please with this purchase
Size: 12 kW Color: White
Super please with this purchase. Been using it 6 months now, supplies our bathroom shower and kitchen sink. We take a shower with it no problem, however if my wife turns on kitchen sink hot water, temp drops substantially in the shower. This small units can really only handle one demand at a time... which is fine for us. We live simple, 600 sqft house. Here's the only tricky thing about it, and it's just a limitation of the size of the unit: the bath-tub water flow is too much to heat the water sufficiently, so I had to manually close my hot water valve to the bathtub about half way. This slows the flow of the water through the water heating unit and allows it to get hot enough to be good for bath temperature. So the bath tub takes a while to fill. Not a big deal for us. I did a lot of reading on different units and this one seemed to have the best reviews. Even if this unit died in a couple years, I would buy it again and re-install a new one. ... show more

  • Works - until it doesn't; but still saves money
Size: 12 kW Color: White
I live in an basic 1-bedroom condo apartment. Rather than risk having a 30-year old 5 gallon water expode, I replaced it with the Bosch 3000 US12. It is a great 3-season heater for the metro NY area, with hot showers until winter. Because the heat depends on the incoming water temperature, and the slower it flows the hotter it gets, I could still get hot winter showers by switching to a high-efficiency head for the winter. On top of that, my electrical bill dropped 20% from that change alone. However, three and a half-years later, some significant parts (namely the heating element) failed and is not covered under their 3-year warranty. The quality itself is rather tenuous, with a cover that doesn't stay on well. Unfortunately, this is one of the only systems that runs on a single 50 A fuse with 6 AGW. Its also the only tankless I found that works with water temperatures into the low 50's; a 60 amp competitors model (single breaker) recommends water temperatures over 57. Just wish Bosch still made quality, long lasting products. Im stuck with getting another one.... ... show more

  • warm not hot water
Size: 12 kW Color: White
Here's the good. Installation was pretty straight forward. I have it turned as high as it will go for hot water and ite is barely warm. After the freeze here in Texas I ordered the unit online because all my local dealers were sold out of the smaller on demand water heaters. One week of no heat or water and then another week waiting for the unit to arrive. I guess my only choice is to get a different unit at my local store. Hope that my neighbors can help me out again with install and go from there. Not real happy. ... show more
