  • Dependable and accurate
Style: Bluelab Soil pH Pen
Blue lab makes some of the best equipment out there. I’ve used their meters for over 15 years now and they have never let me down. Give you accurate info so that you can keep plants at optimal nutrient uptake for the best and fasted growth.

  • Seems ok

Quick and accurate. But seriously sucks trying not to spill the storage fluid. The case is pointed so you can’t just set it down. But that’s the only complaint. Follow up I’ve been using it for a while now I’m not sure it’s accurate. I calibrate it when it indicates it’s time I bought the kit that comes with the fluids to make it easier. I also have a different meter and they never match ph levels. The blue lab meter is all over the place in its reading. Crazy ... show more

  • Reputation for a reason -- UPDATED
Style: Conductivity Pen
I started with ordering the grower's toolbox at the very end of January -- it was delivered February 1st and the EC pen was dead before June 1st. I figured that it wasn't too serious, since sometimes these things happen and it should have a warranty. In the meantime, I decided I'd order a new EC pen since I have to make sure to feed my plants properly -- they're very picky. The new pen arrived within days and after thoroughly cleaning and rinsing, as instructed to before calibration, I attempted to calibrate the new EC pen. No dice. Tried cleaning and rinsing again -- nothing. I contacted Amazon and got a replacement sent (props to Dash for getting me taken care of quickly and painlessly), and tried to clean and calibrate the NEW EC pen...to absolutely no avail. Still getting "Er" code on the display. So it seems that no matter what I do, Bluelab products are simply not worth the effort to try and use and DEFINITELY not worth the cost. It's a shame, really, because I feel like I remember their products actually working when I first started using them 3 years ago or so. I will be looking for a new manufacturer for my plant feed analysis products and highly recommend that anyone reading this review does the same! UPDATE: After having reached out to Bluelab and left a message, I received a call back from a representative that asked for some details related to the products. She guessed that the EC control I was using was expired and sent me new EC solution, as well as pH probe storage solution and pH 4.0 and pH 7.0 controls. After cleaning the probes again and using the new solutions sent to me, both pens (pH and EC) were able to be calibrated. I was told that if, for whatever reason, the new solutions didn't work to contact Bluelab again so that they could rectify the situation. All in all, I'd buy this product again, but probably directly from Bluelab since they pointed out that solutions in/with products sold by other parties may be past their prime. ... show more

  • We're starting at 4 stars, then go from there.
Style: Bluelab Soil pH Pen
I received my probe in the mail today. I was really confused as to what the KCL fluid was, because there was fluid in both the cap and inside the probe it seems.....I feel like the instructions could be clearer but I figured it out. So after powering on I noticed there's no check mark next to the pH label meaning that it needs to be calibrated. So I can't even use this right out of the box. The pen should not only come calibrated but it should also include one small pouch of calibration fluids as well as KCL fluid, just for backup. I understand these things need to be sold separately as they get used up pretty quick each season, but I feel I should be able to use this right out of the box. What has ended up happening is that there wasn't enough KCL solution in the dibber to bathe the probe, and so I had to add 2 drops water to the dibber and soak it overnight (it really only requires a couple drops of water, which you think it would require more by looking at the dibber but nope). So I have to do two things: let the probe soak overnight now that there's enough fluid inside, and now I have to order the pH calibration fluids and wait for them to come in the mail so I can calibrate this thing before using it. I admit, this is a bit annoying. I understand that maybe the calibration will be lost from when this pen is produced in the warehouse and by the time the buyer receives it. But that's why you should include a little bit of calibration fluid with the pen so I can calibrate it, allowing me to use it right out of the box. Anyhow, it has nice packaging and is a nicely put together device from what I can tell. I don't expect to have any problems and trust it will do its job reliably. I will update this review in the future if necessary. ... show more

  • Don’t buy this item through Amazon
Style: Bluelab Soil pH Pen
This item arrived broken. It was poorly packaged. It only reads 7 no matter the ph of the solution in which it was tested in.According to the mfg that is an indication that the glass surrounding the sensor was broken. Amazon’s response to the problem was to return the item and Amazon would give a credit within 3 to 5 days after the item was received.. I was advised that Amazon would not supply a replacement and I was free to reorder and pay for a new one if I chose to do so. Blue lab has been more helpful after I contacted them directly. My point is that if Amazon will not stand by their sales you should deal directly with the vendor. ... show more

I have tried numerous cheaper soil pens before and after awhile they quit working or break. Really like this one but only have it 4 stars because I haven't had it too long. They also aren't very specific on how best to store and use it but I figured it out myself . Seems to be working well and is accurate which is what I care most about. ... show more
