When I first got this headlamp about a year ago, one of my first thoughts was that the latch to the battery compartment seemed 1) awkward to access and 2) flimsy. I take good care of my gear, you can see the headlamp in my picture looks brand new still. I went to open the battery compartment and, snap, the latch broke off. I'm hoping BD will take care of me via their 3 year warranty. Update: Black Diamond was wonderful with their warranty service and has a replacement on its way to me. Thanks BD! ... show more

The vendor is shipping “Spot” headlamps to fulfill orders for “Revolt”s because the Spot boxes have been mislabeled as “Revolt” (see photo). Or at least that’s what was happening in November when Revolts were supposedly being offered for $37. I received a Spot both for my original order and for the requested replacement. Oh well. I already own one Revolt (purchased locally), and it’s a great headlamp, but it does have two clear shortcomings, IMHO. (1) The power button is flush with the housing, so it’s difficult to turn the thing on or off—almost never happens on the first try. (2) The downward angle adjustment of the light doesn’t go far enough, so it’s difficult to get light on something that’s right in front of your face, like—duh—if you’re working on something with your hands. Even so, I obviously want a second one. Just can’t beat charging via USB, not having to deal with batteries. Thanks to Amazon, though, I’ll be looking at other models, brands and retailers for a new headlamp. ... show more

I want to save some struggles for others who cannot turn it on. So I spent two days trying to charge it and turn it on, and nothing happened, so I was ready to send it back. Opening the battery compartment is very hard, but I want to keep trying to see if it's stuck or how it's supposed to work to decide if I want to replace it with the same model or just get another one. Finally, I managed to open it, and well, there is the plastic piece you should remove before using/charging... It makes sense, but this is not mentioned in the guide, in the packaging, or anywhere else, and why would you open it when you are planning to charge it with a cable...? Not much experience yet works nicely now (without the plastic, lol). It seems that the charger's plastic cover will be the lamp's weakest point. Many of you asked: no, it doesn't come with AAA batteries. Four stars for the two days of struggle to turn it on, lol. They could just have a note somewhere to help out inexperienced people, lol. ... show more

Everything I've hoped for in a head lamp, as a mechanic. Rechargeable, bright but not blinding, flood and spot, and I get a whole day of use from a single charge. I know for outdoors activities, more light is usually better. Working under cars, too bright of a light is overkill, painful, and washes out what I'm trying to see. I've been using a little Black Diamond Iota light, but it was just barely too dim. The revolt manages to hit the sweet spot for me where I can run it at probably 70-80% of it's potential brightness, but also run it all the way up when I'm trying to find that tiny screw I dropped into a pile of solidasorb, or dim it more when there's chrome or reflective material that'll blind me. Most of all, the light just makes sense out of the box. Charge it up, 2 easy buttons to use for on/off, brightness, and using the different beams. Well done. ... show more

I have purchased numerous Black Diamond products during my outdoor career and have always been satisfied with the purchases...my life depended on these products while trekking the coastal mountains of British Columbia on hunting excursions...I purchased this headlamp as a backup to my existing older model BD lamp as I wanted the rechargeable feature... However, after attempting to charge the unit for the first time I could not power on the lamp...I found out that I had to remove the plastic tab from the battery compartment, which broke immediately upon opening the very first time...I couldn't open the battery tab with my fingers due to the design and close proximity to the hinge...also, the rubber USB fitting did not close properly which rendered this product virtually useless in wet conditions and without having to tape up the battery compartment with the missing tab... While I am still a happy BD customer, this product did not meet with my expectations for the $64.95 I paid for the item... ... show more
