That's the only thing that caught me off-guard, and saying that it's even more beautiful than I had first imagined, the size is perfect for small spices or herbs, it's non porous so it's not absorbing flavors like my larger granite one, and it fits just right in the hand. I really, really do love it, there's nothing wrong with it having used it several times now, I recommend seasoning it like any other mortar and pestle because mine had a rough layer on the inside which is common, but after grinding up some white rice it's all nice, smooth, and ubiquitously colored, highly recommend, just know what you're buying, they're small, but if you need just a little cute mortar and pestle then this is your guy, A+. ... show more

My grandfather was a pharmacist, in the days when they kept neighborhoods alive. One of my most fondness memories was of his brass mortar & pestal, which was used for everything. Brass contains copper, on which, no bacteria can survive. I've even used the pestal up my nose to kill off a sinus cold in its tracks. Beautiful little mortar and pestle. It will be perfect for crushing herbs and salts and other things, and looks great on my altar. It is lightweight, so traveling with it will be easy too.

You literally can not ask for a better mortar and pestle this is the perfect size and has ANTIBACTERIAL PROPERTIES!!!! If you have a purpose for this , then GET IT!! I personally am not a fan. It is a lot smaller then I expected. So I dose make it hard to use it for the intended purpose. Also when using it. The black dye on the mortar and pestle came off on my hands. Spent a good amount of time scrubbing that off. Almost felt like it was colored with a permanent marker. ... show more
