Biomutant is an open world, apocalyptic, action-roll playing game. You can swap between ranged, melee, and magic while in combat. Sometimes weapon elements like fire, ice, or electric are helpful for certain situations. Also, you might need to avoid certain elements or find protection from them. That can done from gear or skills. You will get skill points throughout the game for weapons, types of combat, speed, magic, and so on. There’s plenty of hidden stuff, and there are puzzles in most locations. Current game difficulty levels are easy, normal, and hard to choose from. Exploring the map is top notch so far, (maybe patch in respawning enemy groups). While exploring you can ride many types of things or use crafty gadgets to get around. There are tons of side quest that you can choose to do, including monster hunting. At some point you can choose a faction, and a aura (good/bad). The character creation was pretty interesting making a custom animal-type. Customization options for character creation and class are available at the start. Biomutant’s overall color scheme is pretty vibrant with neon green, bright blue, and orange projectiles for example. Some of the music sounds similar to Warhammer Chaosbane in the underground areas. The crafting in this game is really well done, as you can customize quite a few parts on some of the gear for example. The game runs decent on the PS4 slim, and you can play offline. Many save files are available. I’ve never seen a levitating cat shooting bright green, purple, and blue projectiles so I’d say it’s an innovative game. ... show more

The exploring was fun and rewarding, looking for new add-ons and weapon parts, but after a short time there was little to no need. I played on the hardest difficulty it wasn't bad. A couple of the main bosses had a learning curve as those fights have gimmicks. The narrator wasn't as bad as I expected, but did get old. Overall the game was fun and a good showcase for this studio. The minor issues I had, never took away from the experience, it's biggest problem seems balancing as a whole. OP weapons come way to quick, it is easy to upgrade yourself to an insane level quick, enemies don't scale past a certain point, too much useless loot, and even on the hardest difficulty I never had to use all the tools. But it was fun and that is the main point. ... show more

Pretty good character settings and level-ups. Cool story line that's easy to follow. The narrator talks too much at random times, just to say random stuff about the weather or dumb metaphors that barely make sense. And the NPCs can also be quite long-winded. But all around great game, if you can deal with the talking. I loved that it wasn't too short, as well. Even after the bosses are all defeated and game is "over", you have the option to go back in and finish as many side quests as you want. ... show more

I was super excited when it released because I’d been waiting for maybe 2 years. I played about 7-8 hours and finally just tried to play with the audio muted because the narration, fun for minute at first, gets old really really fast. Also the tone is much more... cutesy... than I had anticipated. It is fun though. Decent map size, fun combat and character development-creation is pretty good. Here’s my mini-review from Twitter: An open world post-apocalyptic action RPG where humans are gone and cute, furry animals have evolved (or mutated). The worst I can say is that the narration style gets old fast (it makes all conversations awkward; I set it to be a lot less frequent while exploring) and narration of NPC dialogue is thick with cheesy wordplay, but the narrator himself does great. Sounds like LittleBigPlanet (but isn’t). The combat has no hard lock-on, which feels off at first. Otherwise, I absolutely adored and enjoyed this game. I’ve heard reviewers heap on types of criticism that I just don’t get. It *IS* unique despite its familiar or repetitive parts, and it *DOES* have an identity of its own. The world is fun, colorful. Amazing for such a small dev team; or any team! It’s what I wanted and expected. ... show more

whats not to love about furries using filed down license plates as battle axes? If you read the reviews online, you'll see this game being compared to Witcher, Horizon Zero Dawn and other major AAA releases from bigger studios. The truth is that this game was made by 25 people at THQ Nordic. The small team was able to carve out a very flawless escapism experience in a world filled with things to explore. The world is devoid of real-world politics or goofy mechanics. I find myself playing it for hours before realizing its time to go to bed. Accept that this game does not measure up to bigger titles and you'll enjoy it for what it is - a solid game. I hope the DLC will be just as good and a sequel can be bankrolled. ... show more

The game is really fun! With many creative outlets within it! There are definitely many areas where my expectations were exceeded, like being able to create your own gun down to the barrel. That part is really amazing and fun it makes you feel more personal with the character that you create. Moreover though, combat does get repetitive and the story is really long. However, if you're a person that gets really invested into a game, like me, this game will suck you in and you will not be disappointed.
