  • Perfect starter kit for making sheaths.
Size: Beginner Kit
I recently started the hobby of making my own custom knife handles for blanks and the biggest problem is having a great knife but no sheath. I recently purchased one of Big Teddy's leather crafting kits which came with exactly every thing I needed to start this endeavor. The price was awesome, esp considering how spendy these hobby's can get so every penny counts. If you're considering trying to make your own sheaths I highly recommend buying this kit you won't be disappointed.... Here is a picture of my first project, I just made my own custom knife from a Hultifors HD blade, and it now has a sheath 😉 I can't wait to get better and try new stuff. ... show more

  • Waste of money, even for a beginner
Size: Beginner Kit
This kit ain't it. Poor quality makes most of this unusable. Extremely cheap wax, groove cutter is entirely unusable, some of the punches are too dull to make it through one sheet of 5 oz leather. The needles are just okay. The thread is just okay. No awl, despite saying it comes with a multi awl. There was no actual awl tip. Everything could have been purchased separately at a comparable cost with significantly better quality. ... show more

  • is of such poor quality I feel I must warn others before they ...
Size: Full Set Kit
I almost never write a review of a product. This one however, is of such poor quality I feel I must warn others before they get scammed. I got this as a 2016 Christmas gift from my wife. Unfortunately, I was unable to use the items before the return window past. When I tried the first stamp this morning, I had quite the surprise. I was working on a border and by the 7th strike (with a poly hammer) I notices something did not feel right. I looked at the punch and it was bent. Because I had no choice but to finish with the stamp I started with, I bent it back much like straightening a nail (for you old timers). As I went around the boarder, I had to bend it back 3 times for a border that consisted of 25 stamps. If I could return the product, I would. What I can do however, do is warn people to stay away from this seller and their product. Below are the pictures of the quality you are looking at. ... show more

  • It’s an OK starter kit, but not outstanding quality.
Size: Full Set Kit
I am a full-time leather worker and I’ve been doing leathercraft for over 25 years. I purchased a few of these sets to use in a beginner class I was teaching for the first time because it is reasonably priced and seems to have most of the basic tools included. After inspecting the contents and using them in a class, I feel I’m in a good position to give a fair evaluation. The short version: Quality is meh and it’s lacking in some items that you need to get started off right. *Maybe* a good option for a total novice who wants to try leathercrafting, but doesn’t want to invest much to start. I’m returning the unused kits because I think it’s worth investing a little bit more in better quality starter tools and building your own starter kit. The long version: This kit has a good variety of tools that you can use to get started in leathercrafting. On its face, it seems like a great budget starter kit. Unfortunately, the quality just isn’t there and it is missing a couple of essentials. The tools do work. You can punch holes, bevel the edges, etc., but the quality of the tools are marginal and they don’t work nearly as good as better quality tools. For example, the groover leaves a jagged edge groove. The awl has a very thin point and would likely break with any rough use. More telling is that the diamond stitching chisels are roughly made and difficult to punch through and remove from even thinner leather. The spacing on the teeth are also closer than what I would prefer for most leather projects. The set of needles are decent quality, but they appear to be made for fabric upholstery use rather than leathercraft. There is also only one of each size/type and you need two for saddle stitching. It’s these sorts of problems that lead me to suggest you spend a little more money and build your own starter kit using better quality tools. If you absolutely cannot or will not spend more, you can make this kit work, but if you plan to do any significant amount of leathercrafting over time, I guarantee you will quickly need to upgrade the contents of this kit due to breakage and/or poor performance. ... show more

  • Shortened my belt
Size: Beginner Kit
I needed to shorten 7 belts after losing weight with a diet tweaking. My local shoe/luggage repair closed temporarily due to medical issues, so I watched videos and bought this kit. The kit is great, the thread is super strong and waxed. As far as working with leather, it is hard work and requires proper layout. I saved some money and gained some basic skills, but now I have even more admiration for 'real' leather craftsman! It's an art and requires extensive skills. ... show more

  • No Instructions With Tools; Still can't find a way to contact seller
Size: Full Set Kit
With a "Basic Accessories Tools" kit one would expect to find directions that show how to use the tools included. This set has all the basic tools shown but I am at a loss as to how I'm supposed to use them and I've been sewing clothes and using leather crafting tools for decades. The leather stamping tools are easy enough to figure out even if one has never used them before but they are poor quality compared to the ones we've had in my family for over 40 years (Tandy Leather). There are hundreds of videos on YouTube that show what the stamps are used for. The leather sewing tools are difficult to find on YouTube - I haven't found one yet that shows how to use the exact tools I got in this kit. Sitting here baffled as to how I can contact the seller to get written instructions for the sewing tools provided after searching over hill and dale online. ... show more

  • After receiving the tools I am amazed at the quality
Size: Beginner Kit
For the price I was expecting to use these tools for one or two projects. After receiving the tools I am amazed at the quality. The wood handle on the stitch groover is set solid with the tool, the skiver is a cast tool with no mechanical fasteners to hold the blade head on like most. I could go on but you won't find a better kit for the price. ... show more
