  • Nice but not perfect.
Size: 3.5 Gallon
A parts cleaner is something I've always had a need for from time to time; but never actually had. My experience with parts cleaners, before buying this one, had only been with the larger commercial type cleaners. Over the years I have considered buying one but didn't need one often enough to warrant dedicating the space to a large standalone unit. A few months ago I bought a Ford Bronco, a classic, and needed to rebuild the transmission; so I needed a good way to clean all the parts before putting it back together. I debated on just using a bucket; but, I'm glad I went ahead and bought this instead. It's lightweight and smallish, so I was able to set it up on one of the tables in the shop area of my garage without it getting in the way of anything else. It was easy to setup and for the most part seems to be well made. So far, I have had no problems with it and it works very well. However, it is not perfect. First of all, the filter screen that is supposed to attach to the pump, is oversized and does not fit; so it doesn't stay on the pump like it is supposed to. Instead, it falls off and lays on the bottom of the pan. Second, and the only other complaint I have, is that it needs a variable speed or slower pump. The solvent is pumped way too fast for such a small container, so you have to be real careful where you place your parts and the solvent stream; otherwise, you'll end up with a big mess in the floor, on the walls, on you, etc... But you learn to deal with that pretty quickly. It would be nice if you could slow it down to keep it from splattering all over the place. But, a careful person can make it work. Oh, there is one more thing that I almost forgot to mention. The work platform (flat piece of painted metal with drain holes where you place the parts while cleaning them) is sometimes a little hard to get in and out of place. Mine binds up on the pump nozzle and sometimes in other areas. It's not that it's overly hard to work out and get into position but it could be easier if it were a better fit. Luckily, once positioned, you probably won't be removing it very often. I also have one suggestion. It would be nice if the unit had a drain plug, but only if it is placed in a way that you can drain the solvent off the top while leaving the residual grit and grime in the bottom of the pan where it settles. I had to change my solvent in the middle of my transmission rebuild and ended up bailing the solvent out of the pan with a cutoff water bottle. I was able to get almost all of the solvent out (so that it could be reused) while not disturbing the settled grime. I then washed the pan and refilled it with clean solvent to finish my rebuild. You could use the pump to get a lot of the solvent out but you would probably need to attach a hose to the output hose of the cleaner or you'd have to be very careful to not get solvent all over the place. Also, it's light enough to pick up the cleaner and pour the solvent out but I think that would probably stir up the sediment in the process. Anyway, it's just a suggestion. I might buy and install my own drain plug in the future. This little cleaner worked great for me in my work on my transmission and I'm sure I'll get a lot more use out of it over the coming years. ... show more

  • Small parts cleaning
Size: 5 Gallon
Works very well but needs to have a valve of sorts to turn down flow of cleaning solution- the pump has a valve but still to much flow. Adding a valve in line will limit the splashing when cleaning parts with brushing action!

  • Worked well
Size: 5 Gallon
Wasn’t sure how this would work but I love it, had to insert a hose clamp on hose to slow flow to brush. Fit perfectly in bucket. Great for the home DIY.

  • Remember it's from China and 1/2 the price of others...
Size: 20 Gallon
If you're ordering this then you have the mechanical ability to fix the issues that will no doubt come up during assembly. Holes not drilled properly, bent sheet metal due to the 10 million miles of transport from China, etc...Otherwise spend 2-3x more and get something quality or call your Kleen-Rite rep and have them deliver/maintain one for you. I'll see how long it holds up under light usage and update accordingly. ... show more

  • Replacement for identical unit I used to have have, price was great with free shipping. Pump is strong, slightly too strong
Size: 3.5 Gallon
Replacement for an identical unit I had years ago. Same basic quality and at about $40, a good deal. Update 5-5-15: Today was the first day I used the parts washer and it worked great except for one thing; the pump is a little too powerful. I had some greasy bicycle parts in a metal basket and the solvent would bounce off the parts in all directions- including me! The work area is at about half of the overall height and the pressure of the pump causes the solvent to spray in all directions when it hits whatever you are washing. The options to remedy would be: 1. A thicker liquid. I was using paint thinner (mineral spirits) which is a great overall solvent; not highly flammable, not too strong of a smell, etc. I don't know if a citrus based cleaner or other degreaser would be thicker though. 2. Drill out the end of the nozzle. This seems to be the easiest and quickest fix. The volume of the pump wouldn't change but a larger nozzle would reduce the pressure of the liquid and thus reduce the velocity hence less overspray. 3. Replace the flexible gooseneck with a larger rubber hose. I would do that but I like the ability of having the goosneck sit and spray the parts while I do other things. The rubber hose would have to be held or otherwise mounted to something. 4. Replace the gooseneck with a parts washer brush that has a through hole and hose. This seems to be the best option but a quick search on Amazon shows a $10 cheap and poor quality one or a $16+s/h one that might work well. I hesitate to spend an additionall $20-25 for this. For me, I think I will try enlarging the nozzle to reduce the pressure and see what happens. Overall, this is a great unit if you know you will regularly glean parts, but if you only have a few things, a few cans of brake cleaner at about $3 each will also do the job. ... show more

  • Good bang for the buck
Size: 20 Gallon
Wish I would have bought one of these a long time ago. Definitely a must for a home shop. Fit and finish is typical Chinese quality. Minor misalignment of bolt holes. Works great with the solvent from TSC. 10 gallons is the right amount. Get the brush attachment that is sold on Amazon.

  • Not for actual solvent!
Size: 3.5 Gallon
Only for water based medium! May as well wash parts in the sink!
