Ordered this murphy bed cabinet because I wanted a place for my guests to sleep, but I wanted to be able to put it away when not being used. It took about 5 hours to put together... I was doing it by myself. I'm a very capable DIY'er, but I like to take my time and do it right. It came with lots of pieces flat packed in 2 boxes so it was a little overwhelming when I took everything out. All the pieces were labeled so it wasn't hard to assemble. The directions were just pictures so if you can assemble Ikea furniture or build Lego sets, you'll be fine. Now that I've installed it, it seems to be working fine. Interestingly enough, my 17yo grandson has taken it over and he now sleeps on it full time while he stays with us. His use will be a good test of its sturdiness. So far it seems to be doing well, but I wouldn't suggest diving onto it. The weight limits are little less than I would like. It doesn't feel flimsy, but I would be happier if it was rated to hold at least 100 more pounds than its rated for. Even still the build quality is nice and it very easily holds a six inch mattress. I wanted the most comfort I could get for my guests (grandson now) and the 6 inch gel mattress just looked to be more comfortable. My biggest concern was whether the 6" mattress would fit, and it did with no issues. So far no complaints from my grandson on it's comfort. I actually think I should have made it less comfortable so maybe he'd be less inclined to visit so much. Lol. Even still, I would recommend it. Time will tell about it's sturdiness, but it feels like it'll hold up. ... show more

this thing is a bugger to put together!! after 3 days and going backwards in the "step by step" directions... i finally got it put together enough to use . the directions need to be clearer on which way the pieces face, and what part goes where! it was a 75% guessing game, so if you like puzzels... this is the one for you! it is comfortable, looks really nice... says it will hold a 10 inch mattress... however.. my mattress is 6 inches and barely fits. so buyer beware of getting extra toppers for the bed! you will have to find someplace to store it! i guess you get what you pay for. i chose to go the "cheaper" route and wish i would have spent a tad more and got a better quality. for what it is going to be used for i suppose it will be fine. i will have to do some minor adjustments to get it to completely close at the bottom... but nothing that will hamper the use. ... show more

We purchased this Murphy bed cabinet for our game room to accommodate holiday guests! It worked perfectly! We put it in our media room, and when we don’t have guests, it folds up nicely and I love the look of the cabinet. It fit in nicely with the rest of the decor. It has great storage capacity, and we use the bottom drawer to store the blankets and sheets that go on the bed. We purchased a tri-fold mattress (6”) and it folds up nicely in the cabinet too! This murphy bed was exactly what I was looking for. I needed a spare bed that could fold away when not needed. It took a bit to assemble but the directions were easy to follow. This bed was relatively easy to assemble. I do suggest drilling pilot holes for the 4 inch screws as they did not go into the wood easily. The cabinet is sturdy and looks great in my grandkids playroom.

I am mechanically inclined, that being said the instructions for this Murphy Bed is completely inadequate. Additionally the fasteners the barrel nuts and bolts could/would not thread to probably assemble. I had to purchase separate fastening hardware at the local building supply store. Get ready for 20 hours of labor! Once the cabinet was assembled, it seems to be a sturdy piece of furniture. We haven't used the bed yet but we can tell it will take 2 people to prepare for sleeping. This is why we feel it's not your typical Murphy bed which would be much easier to maneuver. The frame is extremely heavy. On the plus side, the solid wood construction makes the bed very sturdy. The 4 decorative front panels were all warped but once it was put together it was not as noticeable. The pre-drilled holes on the decorative panels needed to be adjusted as they didn't line up with their counterparts. See photos. Some of the screws were missing threads but there were extra screws included. Good enough for the price. I'm not discouraging buyers but just be ready for many hours of assembly time. ... show more
