  • Excellent! Just don't make my mistake.
Material Type: Premium
Note: I bought the "Premium" product. For $7, I figured ensuring a good gauge was necessary. Review: Excellent product. Cheap case, but good enough which is all that matters. Just remember one thing. If you use the adapters, tighten them to the hose fitting with wrenches FIRST!!! I didn't and after testing the first cylinder (hand threaded in), the adapter unscrewed when I removed it and stayed inside my head. Even worse, despite the hex head on the adapter, no socket would fit in the spark plug bore!!! After panicking, I had a few ideas. Fortunate for me, my father is a 60-year mechanic to run my ideas by!!! Dad suggested using an extractor, but I didn't want to destroy the adapter (longer threads than on hose) and I didn't have the right size extractor anyway. Oh boy!!! Solution: After removing the rubber o-ring (with a pick) to not damage it, I put super glue (Dollar Tree, $1.25, which I always have on hand) on the brass threads and hand screwed it into the hand-screwed-in adapter. I left it for a few minutes, and then it removed the adapter when I unscrewed it with my hand turning the hose. It worked so well I had to put some serious torque on the wrenches to separate after removal. It might have even worked if I had used a ratchet to tighten!!! Once removed, I cleaned the threads with a small wire brush (Triple pack, Harbor Freight, $2.50), replaced the bushing, and everything was good as new. Crisis averted!!! Be wiser than me. Do it right the first time. Again, excellent product. Spent: $27. Dealer to do the same thing: $200. That's a win for me... ... show more

  • Great value for the occasional use
Material Type: Normal
Usually I run to the local parts store to borrow/rent their compression tester. But, this time, I got lazy and had time to wait for one to be delivered. I would have burned $5 in gas just picking up a loaner so I feel like I already got a 25% discount! It's got a good selection of adapters and I had no problem finding the right one for my 1964 flathead I6. Even if you can't find a threaded adapter to fit, there's a couple of snub nose adapters you can have a helper hold against the plug opening to get a reading. The hose is nothing special, maybe a little on the lighter side of things. It does the job just fine. The gauge itself looks pretty decent and feels solid. I was careful not to drop or bump it, and to find a nice place to lay it while cranking. It's got a hold function and a pressure release. Super handy. It measured my cylinders at 140-150 PSI. Whether that's completely accurate, who knows. But if you know about engine compression, the most important thing is that they are all of close PSI. No more than 10% difference. Overall I'm very happy. It's paid for itself already in my mind. Having it on the shelf for next time is great. Many times I would have skipped the test because I didn't want to run to the store. Not anymore. I'll be keeping numbers on the family fleet in my log book. ... show more

  • Nice kit, we had problems but the company resolved the issue.
Material Type: Normal
Edit: BETOOLL reached out to us as a result of this review. I really appreciate proactive customer service! BETOOLL has offered a solution to my issue that is very satisfactory. I am now very happy with the kit. ------------------------------------------------------ We tested the compression on a Ryobi weed wacker. The compression is supposed to be 90-110 lbs/in2. Using the flexible tube the compression reads 50 after 5 pulls. Using the adapter where you push the tool against the spark plug hole while pulling the rope, compression reads 75. The weed wacker runs fine. The flexible adapter has some kind of one way valve that is severely restricting the airflow. I tried the flex tube adapter on a new Briggs and Stratton 7 hp mower. It reads 50 lbs. after 5 pulls. The spark plug location is such that I will need a helper to try the adapter that you hold against the engine. If you want a kit that always says 50, this is it. It you want a reliable reading, probably need to look elsewhere. I think I will be returning this one and trying something else. ... show more

  • Great Compression gauge and tooling
Material Type: Normal
This setup works well for small engines such as motorcycles, side by sides and atvs. It will most certainly work on larger engines such as most automotive applications. It was used successfully on Kawasaki 2500 mules and on Sion iC. Tested the compression with no problem.

  • Easy to use. Accommodates all plug sizes
Material Type: Normal
You can pretty much evaluate the top-end health of an engine by performing a compression test on your engine in question. I like this tester because of its ease of use. The hose quick-connects to the gauge, making it a cinch to thread the correct adapter into the spark plug hole. Once connected, it's a one-man operation because the gauge hold the reading until you press the release button. ... show more

  • Threaded fittings don't fit my Kohler K301 engine . Good otherwise .
Material Type: Normal
The price is good for this . If I had known it wouldn't fit my spark plug hole I would have looked for another . It did what I needed it to do though . Hard to hold the rubber plug down while reaching for the key switch but I guess that is to be expected .
