The 500W inverter itself is a good product. The delivered voltage is 114.5 VAC as measured by a standard voltmeter. The amperage draw is 0.0 A with the switch off and 0.3A with the switch on and under no load. The fit and finish are excellent. The battery clamps are very sturdy and resemble good quality jumper cable clamps. I am using it with a constant 400W load, and it works flawlessly. The fan cycles between not needing to run and running on low. I highly recommend this product for use with its battery clamps up to 500W, or with the cigarette lighter plug for loads up to 100W. The instructions and customer support are bad. The instructions are very brief, leave out many important details, and do not cover the warranty. Over 2 weeks ago I asked how to register my purchase for the warranty, and a technical question about the correct wire gauge for installing the inverter permanently in my car. My questions were quickly acknowledged, but I am yet to receive useful answers. You can find out about inverters in general from the internet. The ugly part is if your personal knowledge about inverters is low and you are planning on buying a large unit or using permanent wiring in your car. The wire guage needed will probably be larger than what you expected, particularly if the run is long (i.e., over 6 feet). The wire will exceed the cost of the inverter. Similarly, you should check the amperage output of your cars alternator to be sure that it has sufficient capacity over the running requirements of your car. These comments are true about any inverter, and become more critical if you are buying a larger inverter. This is a product that requires a lot of thinking before ordering. The risks are fire, unit failure, alternator damage, and battery drainage. These risks are not adequately addressed in the instructions. I gave my assessment at 4 stars because the product is well designed and built. If you buy an inverter without a good knowledge base, you could be disappointed, and one star may be too high a rating for your experience. ... show more

I do a lot of work on the road and need to recharge batteries, power a laptop and phone, and sometimes even video lights. I have the 300w version and loved it, wanted more power and the option to mount it, so I got the 500w version. They are both built like tanks, don't get hot, and are really easy to use. The USB also makes it nice to still be able to have my phone plugged in after this takes the 12v plug. ... show more

I have this mounted in the back of my Toyota 4Runner.
