Picked this up on sale for less than I usually pay for the lures I run on it. It is the 7' Medium Heavy Casting Model. First impression is the rod is way stronger than rated. It says 1-4 oz lure rating, but the rod is so solid it feels like it could easily run an 8oz. The line rating is 12-30 lb, but I rigged mine with 60lb braid. 12 lb Line on this would be an absolute joke. This rod feels like a 50-80 lb line rod. For a Medium Heavy action, it just feels Heavy. Only the top 14" from the tip really flexes before is goes totally stiff. Sensitive is not a word I would use to describe the tip. It is not exactly what I was looking for. I would have much prefered something like an Ugly Stik Tiger over this, but this is definately an economic option. I think it might work for hauling in 80 lb catfish or something like that. It just is not real versatile like a Tiger would have been. I am going to use it for my heavy trolling rigs like 5-6 oz. It just feels like you would rip the lips off smaller fish without ever knowing they were there. I think the reason it is so underated is due to the fiberglass construction? I can not really complain about the qaulity of construction. The guides are real nice and straight, the wraps neat and even. The beefy tapered foam grips are my favorite part. A rubber gimbal butt would have been desirable on a rod like this, it is unfortunate that Berkley left that detail out. For the price I would buy one again, for a very specific fish... like a 60 lb Carp, Catfish or Gar, or maybe some smaller tuna species. This should not be considered general purpose, rather it lives up to it's name... "Big Game". ... show more

This thing is a beast. It's chunky, almost too chunky for my liking From handle to tip it is chunkier than my Ugly Stik catfish casting rod. But is still light enough to fish for many hours. It should be able to tame King salmon next summer. I've matched it up with a Kastking Royale Legend II 200 with 65 lb. braid. ... show more
