In a workshop, I would prefer to use a high-quality, heavy-duty vice, such as a Wilton (also available on Amazon). A workshop vise is sometimes used to hold large, heavy objects and has to be rock-steady and reliable. This vise appears to be very well made. It's nicely heavy, which indicates solid construction. The ad copy says that it is cast steel, not cast iron. Cast steel is more difficult to pour. It is also more difficult to get results that are relatively stress-free and less likely to fracture. Cast steel requires more attention and inspection during production. Cast steel is also more difficult to machine and causes more tool wear. This vise is cleanly machined and all the parts fit together very well. Both iron and steel oxidize, but iron forms a patina of rust that tends to slow deep corrosion. Steel needs more attention and should be painted or powder coated or otherwise protected. The ad copy barely mentions that there is some kind of spray paint coating to protect the steel. Whatever it is, it looks and feels pretty strong. It is not scratch-proof, but is reasonably slick and protective. There is a small anvil formed behind the jaws, and I guess it could be used with something like a tack hammer or a jewelry peen, but with a cast steel item at this price point, I would be afraid of fracture if too-heavy hammering was attempted. This vise is loaded with handy features, maybe best of which is the quick-release/quick-clamp button. The 360-degree swivel is another great feature. Also the engraved jaws and rubber inserts. And on and on. There is a bench clamp that would be useful to some, that comes with three 15mm bolts (only two needed) to bolt the clamp to the vise. But I think I would rather use lag screws to bolt the vise to a 2x4, and then clamp that to a mobile workbench indoors. It also comes with three M8 x 40mm bolts, nuts and washers (the ad calls them 20mm screws, but they're not). My other preferred option is to use the vise free-standing (on newspaper or something to prevent marring a desktop).     • A nice small bench vise.
This is a pretty decent bench vise if your looking for a smaller, lighter duty vise. All the parts are well made and the rotation, opening and closing are all smooth. One odd feature pair is around the anvil portion of the vise. First is that they texture painted the anvil head, so that paint is likely going to crack if you intend to use the anvil at all. Potentially worse is the design of having the anvil portion of the vise be off-centered off the mounting point and on the sliding portion of the vise rather than on the stationary part. This is due to the mechanism being backward from most vices. The front (where the handle to tighten and loosen the vise is located) is not on the moving portion of the vice. Instead it is the back of the vice that slides back away from the front jaws. Given those two features, I don't think the anvil was really well thought out. It's like it was included because they saw other vices had one, but didn't really think about what an anvil is generally used for. I'm happy it came with rubber jaw covers, but unfortunately, liners in my box were very deformed from sitting half under the vise in the box. They would fall off when the vise was opened, which was annoying. I was able restore them by hitting them with a heat gun for a bit and left them set in the vice overnight so all better now, but maybe some better packing method is in order. ... show more

Nice little vice! Vice can be permanently mounted or temporary mounted with the included clamp. This is the way I'm currently using it as I needed a small vice for doing some hobby stuff in my office. So I can just slap this on my desk when I need it. Includes a rubber soft-jaw cover to prevent marring your work. So far my only complaint would be the lock on the 360 swivel. The vice can be rotated 360 degrees on its base, but the lock isn't great. With it fully locked you can still rotate the vice with a little force. ... show more

    • Two ways to mount.
I find this vice to be handy for a light to medium workload. Does have a little weight but more suited for most hobbies IMO. Not sure how much torque the corkscrew will handle,maybe a lot. I like the included rubber guards and I really like the C clamp. I have this vice mounted to end of a HF workbench and it feels pretty solid. There is a button for quick adjustment. I think a longer arm is needed for more leverage to keep the vice from turning/moving. A very useful product. ... show more

Bench Vise Or Table Vise is heavy and well made of cast steel. It is not a big vise, but for everyday DYI and home projects it should do just fine. It can be either bolted to the table, or clamped (up to 4 in)- grip is solid. Max jaw opening In addition to being compact, it can swivel (smoothly) 360 degrees - definite plus for me. There is the button under the jaw that you can press to either expand or collapse it quickly, jaws themselves do open to as advertised to 2.5 in. So far, I've been using it for a short period of time, but I do not see any problems - will update if anything changes. ... show more
