  • Velo 2 - perfect touring companion
I purchased the Beeline Velo 2 for a 14-day cycling trip between London and Edinburgh. In the past, I would plan the route in Komoot and use my iPhone to navigate. This time, I decided to try Velo 2 for its simplicity and to avoid having my expensive iPhone attached to the handlebar and taking daily abuse. I was THRILLED that I gave Velo 2 a try! Full disclosure, I did NOT use the Beeline app to create the daily routes. I am really comfortable using Komoot to plan my routes, though I could have easily done the same in the Beeline app. Once I created 14 daily routes, importing them into the Beeline was a snap. Each days’ ride showed up in the "Ride" tab, so it was just matter of selecting the day’s route and heading out. I put my iPhone in airplane mode to save battery life and off I went. My riding buddy also had the routes and used his Wahoo to navigate. 99% of the time we were in agreement when to turn (and there were a million turns each day), and I would say Velo 2 was more likely to be correct. Each day we rode down a combination of paved, hard packed gravel rails-to-trails, and even a few spots along the eastern coast that could be called walking paths. For me, the Velo 2 simple display is pure genius. It gives you just enough information to easily anticipate turns, and an audio cue that is nearly perfect. My only tiny complaint was I am getting hard of hearing and wish the audio turn que was a bit louder - but it’s perfectly fine for most riders. Originally, I thought the audio que was coming from my iPhone but only realized that wasn't the case when I let my buddy try out the unit on his bike and realized the sound actually came from within the Velo 2. As you can guess, it rains a lot in the UK, so the Velo 2's water resistance was tested for many hours. I never had a problem. Not quite sure if it is in fact waterproof, so I don't suggest you forget to take it out of your jersey and run it through the washer - which I almost did! The claimed battery life of 11+ hours seems correct. We rode most days from 8:00 to 16:00 and the Velo had more than 50% battery life left. I charged it each night, so I never actually ran it until it died to find out the true battery life, but from my experience, 11+ hours seem reasonable. In summary, I LOVE the Velo 2 and will continue to use it as my cycling computer. Some reviewers had less than perfect experiences with their Velo 2, but my 14-day, 8+ hour per day, rainy, sometimes bone jarring ride, has sold me. I hope the developers at Beeline resist all attempts to make it more complicated. Its beauty is its simplicity. If you want a detailed color moving map, heart monitor, altitude, etc. then Velo 2 is not for you, BUT for the rest of us, it is an amazing solution. ... show more

  • So much better than a Garmin
I have a Garmin that I have used for mountain and road biking (520) but find it hard to use and read while riding. This works exactly for what I want which it turn by turn directions. It even works offload and you can upload routes to it for on or off road routes. Very simple in concept but so easy to use and has excellent battery life and takes up very little space your bars. ... show more

  • solid device albeit simple
so I want to start off by saying I've done two trips with this and have dropped it on concrete from pocket height because I somehow failed to put it in my pocket; and while it feels very light and weak this thing took the fall like a champ and did not even get scratched or dented. As for the use as a GPS in general it is pretty good, it is less of a GPS and more of an second screen for the app while on a route in a smaller package than your phone, which is great if you just want something simple and easy to use. you get some useful information and options while on a route like the ability to like/dislike a road (I have yet to see if this affects the routing yet because of my low # of rides but the map shows disliked roads from other people) it also shows your speed, distance to the end point+ an ETA (has been off by 1 min each time in terms of time till destination but not arrival time one example is it will say you have 5 mins left on the route but it will show a time of arrival that is 4 or 6 mins from now). overall the device is really nice and simple with the only issue I can see people having being the fact you have to use your phone to set the route. which on this this point I do wish that the device could hold a "home destination" that you could quick select from the device without opening your phone, but otherwise this is a pretty good nav. ... show more

  • Great for urban commuting
I love this little thing. I tried Garmins for commuting and the UI is clunky and difficult to use to navigate on the fly. It's miserable trying to program outside in the cold. This thing, though, is a breeze. Does exactly what I need and does it quickly. I have a bike computer for long road rides but for getting around a city this can't be beat. ... show more

  • Disastrously lacking
I purchased this for Mountain biking, only to find out it’s NOT capable of mapping trails. And also the build of this is soo flimsy, setting it up using buttons feels like it’s going to fall apart. They got one thing right though , it’s the design, it looks good. But what good is it if it’s not sturdy, not trail friendly at all. ... show more

  • Does everythin.
I have retired my garmen 1040! I can read the screen easily. Reroutes, easy uploads fro RGPS, speed function, distance. Perfect.

  • Love the form factor and the idea and construction. BUT...does not live up to expectations.
So I just wanted a small scale cycling computer. Nothing too much. This was perfect. I originally saw it on Kickstarter and when I saw it here, I went ahead. Love the form factor. Reminds me of my old old iRiver Clix mp3 player from back in the day. Easy enough to set up and install on handlebars. Love the mount. BUT...device is not accurate for me--mph do not equal my phone and Garmin. About 2 mph off at times. The route making/planning is so confusing and hard to understand. I kept having issues trying to make my usual routes. I am returning it and buying a Hammerhead. Maybe in the future Beeline will fix a few more of these bugs...and I'll return. ... show more
