I am new to beekeeping and I think the typical wood entrance is sufficient, but these small holes seem like a better fit for the bees. I thought that it would fit more securely against the hive box, but it just rests against it though I suppose this is best for various sized hive boxes. You could nail or screw the entrance on to the wood, but that would limit the maneuverability of the piece. It's definitely stainless steel though I don't know if you can beat the wax-covered wood that came with the kit. ... show more
