    • Heat tool made the difference between fun and frustrating.
I was a little hesitant to buy this because of some bad reviews. But I’m glad I went ahead and did it anyway, because my daughter loves them! It seems like most complaints were about the mix not being liquid enough. That made it harder to pour the mix into the tube without it solidifying too quickly. I did not use the water method to heat the wax base. I used a heat gun and it made it a complete breeze! Definitely have to be careful with using a heat gun/tool. You can melt the spatula and measuring cup if you’re not careful. But I use a heat tool often, so I’m comfortable with it. Made mixing and pouring SO EASY. I bought this kit to help keep my 8 year old busy and as a rainy day activity for the summer. She loved the process and was impressed with the result. The box states it’s recommended for ages 6 and up, but my 8 year old needed plenty of help. One of the steps requires boiling water and placing the cup into it as the way to melt the wax base and beads for the chapstick. The cup floats, so I had to help her hold it down while she stirred the contents. This was the only step she could not do on her own both for personal safety reasons and coordination. My 4 year old is obsessed with chapstick/lip gloss/lipstick, so decided to get a kit to mke her own! She loved smelling the scents & adding the colors & glitter to the wax. It did take longer than I would have expected to make all 5 tubes but we enjoyed it! I will say that boiling hot water is necessary & makes the wax easier & smoother to pour into the tubes. Bought as a gift for my seven year old and she had so much fun making them. Help is needed for the boiling water and stirring. The steam and heat from the water is HOT and could easily burn your child. But super fun project to do with them.

I bought this for my 2 granddaughters ages 10 & 8. They were very excited to make these attractive looking lip balms. Unfortunately it turned out not to be fun at all. Most of the work had to be done by me, an adult. It doesn’t advise the kids to mix the wax and pellets in the tiny plastic mixing container held down in a cup of newly boiled water!! Obviously! I ended up doing all the mixing/melting myself and scolding my fingers several times while trying to hold the little plastic beaker down in the super hot water. They did not melt quickly and I ended up constantly changing the water to have it hot enough to melt the small amount of mixture inside. Also, the small amount of ingredients included in the set were making it stressful to make sure we had enough to fill the 5 tubes of lip balm included. In the end we were able to fill all 5 tubes, because I, the adult filled the tubes from the tiny beaker so they wouldn’t spill and waste the ingredients. They came out ok but 85% of the work had to be done by me. Tip:The little scooper provided to measure the wax was hard to empty into the beaker w the spatula provided so I used a lobster pik with a flat edge. It saved a lot of time & annoyance. ... show more

Absolutely nightmare craft. The wax takes about 20 mins in boiling water to melt. During which you’re burning you freaking fingers off stirring like a maniac with a tiny plastic spatula. Everything gets coated in slippery wax so you can’t even hold said tiny spatula. Your back will be breaking from the stirring position and your kid will be asking “ is it almost done yet?” Once the wax finally melts it comes together like it should but good god the hellish process!! ... show more

Did this with 5 and 10 year old girls and it was a blast! The 10 year old did most of the reading/instructing. I only hopped in to boil the water and melt the wax. They LOVED swirling/mixing the colors and making each tube different. The chapstick looks cute on the girls too! Will buying more for home and gifts. ... show more
