I did a lot of research on easels as this was going to be the big Christmas gift for my 4 year old. I ultimately decided to go with this one because I know Melissa and Doug products to be well made. I chose this one over the original M & D easel because I liked that this was magnetic as well. Well, it exceeded my expectations! It takes a little time, but it’s fairly easy to put together. It’s very sturdy. I’m not sure why previous reviewers said it was cheap or flimsy. I don’t see that at all. Also the chalk board works perfectly from the first use. It didn’t need to be “seasoned” like other easel chalk boards. I can see where folding it may be a bit of a nuisance, but if you don’t need to fold it regularly it shouldn’t be a problem.     • Granddaughter loves this easel
The Easel works great for our 2 year old granddaughter. We have it set on the shortest setting, so it will grow with her for many years as she gets taller. It took a while to put together - shallow screw holes, deep screw holes, outside legs, inside legs, etc, but I'd buy it again. It's sturdy and she loves it. I bought the additional pack with paints, brushes, one marker, chalk and chalk eraser. The only additional thing I bought, and you'll need it, is a pack of dry erase markers and eraser. I also bought the extra magnetic letters and numbers, but a set of those comes with the easel so they weren't necessary. I guess she'll just be able to write words with double letters now! ... show more

    • Great product as always
M&D did it again~ This art easel is solid and big sized, with the multi-functioning megnatic chalkboard that I was looking for. The only design shortcoming that I found was that the paper roll is locate at the bottom of the easel, so there will be some wasted paper towards the end. Overall a solid product. ... show more

Grandchild is enjoying her birthday gift. All parts were accounted for, and assembly was easy, though time consuming. A nice touch would be to sell with the appropriately sized paper roll. The magnetic blackboard holds the included magnets, but other magnets don't work well on it.

    • Comes with no supplies. Not very giftable.
Bought as a gift for granddaughter and then discovered it came with no supplies. But that was my fault for not reading description thoroughly. My daughter said it was difficult to assemble and would be inconvenient to use an allen wrench each time you wanted to fold it; however, she said it was sturdy once assembled. Had I read description carefully, I would not have ordered this one but one that came with a few supplies. ... show more

This was not the same as pictured. I already have an easel that got ruined, the real one has bright colored trays and knobs, harder sturdier trays with deep cups for paint cups and crayons. This DOES NOT, it's thin pinkish red soft plastic trays that are shallow and would not hold paint cups. Also in a different configuration. The picture I included shows the real kind in the background picture with the chalkboard, you can compare it to the picture with the girl in the front the tray labeled D is not the same as the one in the back picture, which would be facing behind the chalkboard, compare the sides and depth visible. This DOES NOT match the advertisement either. Melissa and Doug is investigating this. Have not found a way to talk to a human at Amazon anymore. What a shame. Update from manufacturer, after investigating they told me this was a genuine product and they changed them without updating the pictures in a timely fashion. The quality has gone down from the old style. I would only purchase this if it is on sale or you are prepared to sand rough spots on wood and have shallower paint cup holders. ... show more

    • Very well made and easy to assemble!
I knew the reputation of Melissa and Doug is excellent, and I couldn't understand all the reviews about "plastic screws not staying tight in the wood". Well, I got it and I was so pleased! The inside of the plastic screws is metal, as well as the insides of the holes drilled to fit the screws. So when I screwed in a screw, it stayed in very tight and sturdy. The chalkboard, and dry erase board are very good quality. My little grandson is having a ball with this! I got him the apron, and accessories package too. The magnetic letters work great! Thank you for offering this great product at an affordable price. I've seen many like it, most don't have all that this one does, and they cost much more. ... show more

    • 4 year old loves to paint
I have a painter. We don’t use the chalk board or the letters as much as the paint side. The letter magnets are ok but there needs to be more. We can’t spell words when there are two or more of the same letter and these are special magnets so you can’t just get them anywhere. I haven’t been able to find them locally so limited on what we can spell and I don’t see M&D advertising magnets you can buy separately for this. We’ve had this for 2 years and have taken it down once. It was easy enough to put together, just took a little time and followed the instructions step by step. It is holding up well and expect her little sister will use it once the 4 year old grows out of it. ... show more
