My truck just isn't pulling my trailer over the mountain like I would like. I poked around, and this seemed like the easiest way low risk way to get some extra power. In my research there are four things to do to improve power - improve the air intake, improve the exhaust, change/reprogram the engine computer, upgrade the injectors (for a diesel engine). By far, upgrading the air intake was the easiest and most "pull and replace" type of improvement. This Banks unit improves the air intake in three ways - it adds a second large opening in the intake/filter box (the original equipment on my '05 GMC had one pushed up against the fender), the filter area is larger than the original equipment, and the flow of air from the intake/filter box to the turbo is smoothed out to prevent frictional loses. I haven't pulled my trailer over the mountain with it yet, but the installation was very extremely ease - a real pull and replace type installation. In the kit was even an odd size screw bit needed to disassemble a portion of the existing unit. Instructions were clear and complete. Filter is one of the cleanable type - you won't have to ever buy a new throw away. Based on what I saw with the original equipment - especially the close fit of the old intake opening to the fender - the air flow available to the engine should be vastly improved. ... show more

Not sure about Mileage improvement but paired with a new 3 inch Down pipe on the turbo ole girl really screams now. Turbo winds up way faster!

    • Money Wasted
I chose this product and the companion air scoop to improve long hill and high altitude pulling performance of my Durmax LLY. For every day driving, the combo does give a slight increased performance at the expense of gas mileage. Installation is straight forward.

Ok, easy to install, took maybe 20 minutes. I was pulling a 9,000lb camper to Disney a World behind a 2005 Duramax. Averaged just about 10 mpg. I do believe the truck ran better. All in all, a good purchase.
