  • Good headphones, but a few quirks
I just got these. There are some good and bad points about this headset. The sound is crystal clear. Love it. I’m not finding them to be very comfortable on my ears however. And I don’t have great big ears. They could have made the cups a bit larger. The controls are touchy and sketchy. It’s not working very well. I can raise and lower the volume, and I can turn it off and on, pause. But I’m having a problem skipping songs and to activate ANC and transparency mode. I’ll work with it more to try and get used to it. Overall I like this headset. I’m hearing notes, highs and lows that I didn’t hear before. The noise cancelling definitely works! You can’t hear anything with the noise cancelling ON! Amazing. All you can do is see people’s lips moving, but you don’t know what they’re saying. I have to work on the transparency mode. I can’t tell when it’s on. You can definitely get into your music with these on. I’ll update this later after I try to use the app with the headset and hopefully make adjustments to the sound. Update: I did download the app and changed the sound. Sounds wonderful! Really love it! I forgot to add that the headphones came with a soft case and an airline adapter for those long trips. It did come with a 3.5 mm cable as advertised. And it came with the charging cable USB C to USB type A. Really a good package for the money! Happy overall with the purchase. Update: 19 Feb2019- I bought another pair of these and got them just now. This is my gym headset. Turns out this is much better than the Studio Beats. And you can’t beat pairing them up to 2 devices at once. That was the deal maker for me in particular, plus the fact that I don’t have to be wired up to take a call like the Studio Beats. These are much better quality by far! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a good sound and the features. ... show more

  • The Search Has Ended!
Bottom Line for me I am befuddled (it's a word - look it up!) by some of these reviews. But, to each their own, I guess. Awesome, awesome headphones. My search is over. Background I have tried so many headphones, I can hardly count. Sony 1000XM3, B&W PX, B&W P7 (which I owned for a year and LOVE), Senheiser Momentum, etc etc. For the last few days I have been comparing my 4 moth old Sony 1000XM3 with the H9i. Volume I like my music loud sometimes. Only occasionally do I top out the volume. Most of the time I am well below maximum with these H9i’s Comfort Quite good. Overall just as comfortable as the Sonys, just different. I was initially discouraged because they feel more cramped. But somehow, over time, I have concluded that these are quite comfortable. They just feel different. Sound Note that I have the H9i EQ set to heavy bass and accented highs. Same for the Sony’s. Overall the best sounding headphones I have heard, ever. Above the B&W PX, Sony 1000MX, Sennheiser, B&W P7 etc etc. Bass: The bass has precision and authority, if that makes sense. The Sony has strong bass (adjustable) that never gives in. It shovels out bass, but without purpose. In comparison, it’s sloppy. The H9i delivers bass with more precision and power, if that makes sense. When a song really has demanding bass, the H9i will outshine the Sony 1000XM3. Even punchy bass is punchier than the Sony. B&O are doing something special with these speakers. Finally, the H9i delivers bass without screwing with the rest of the instrument content. Sony’s fumble occasionally in this task. Treble: Some have described the high end as “harsh”, and I think I understand. However this can be tamed with EQ. However, the competent upper end is one thing that I really love. With a guitar strum, you don’t just hear each string being struck, you hear the slide of the pick on the strings. Horns shine more than the competitors. I wonder if the little nubbin in front of the main speaker is responsible. All of the above really shine on tracks like Radiohead “Ripcord”, Helio Sequence “Shed Your Love”, Gypsy Kings “Hotel California”, Stevie Wonder “Higher Ground”, 10,000 Maniacs “What’s the Matter Here”. I thought that Young the Giant’s “Amerika” sounded great on the Sonys. Then I heard it on the H9i. Can’t go back. Noise Isolation Pretty good. Those around will only hear your music if you have it pretty loud and the room is quiet. Touch Controls I find these controls to be clearly better than the Sony 1000XM3. I am confused that some find the touch controls frustrating. I have no problem and strongly prefer them to the Sonys. For example, the volume control. Within the first hour of use, I feel like a have a volume dial that I can instantly command. On the H9i, there is a subtle but easy-to-locate raised ring on the right ear cup that easily guides your finger to make the circle. And the touchpad seems to never get confused. The Sonys misinterpret my intentions regularly. Noise Cancelling This was not my highest priority, and I am perfectly happy thus far. People generally say it is quite good, but not up to Sony and Bose. That’s OK with me. The sound quality does suffer, and I keep NC off unless I travel. ... show more

  • AMAZING... and Simultaneously Disappointing.
I bought these because I wanted the best of the absolute best when it comes to noise-cancelling headphones. I watched many a review and almost bought the Sony wh-1000xm3, but I chose these because they seemed to be the premium option. I was right. They are incredible feeling. The leather used for the earcups are heavenly and the headset as a whole is just magnificent. Every time I touch them and put it on my ears I'm just in awe at how solid and exquisite these are. These are the best feeling and looking headphones I have ever experienced. The only problem I have with this set PHYSICALLY is with the headband cushion stiffness. It doesn't take long to make the top of my head feel a little sore. Also I walk across campus every day and the shock of each step causes the enclosed earcups to produce a ridiculous BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM in my ears like my own additional bass drum. It's fine if I'm walking perfectly to the beat of every song, but unfortunately I don't, so that's not a good thing. THE NOISE CANCELLING is pretty awesome, but it definitely doesn't cancel out everything like they like to make you think. It cancels out a lot, but you can definitely still hear people talking and mid-high range sounds. It does the best at cutting out those low hums/ low ambient sounds. When music is playing, however, you will not be able to hear much else which is pretty great. What is NOT great is the QUALITY of the music. While the noise-cancelling is on, music isn't even worth listening to. It's just not good. I always end up turning ANC off even when riding the bus. At this point, I might as well put the money toward higher quality-sounding headphones without ANC. The sound quality with ANC OFF is okay, but I still am always kinda disappointed when listening to my music because I expect more from a $500 MSRP headset. Even for the discounted price I got it for ($328), it just is not good enough. I even tried using their minimalist equalizer with the Bang and Olufsen App to make the sound more to my liking, but it's very limited. THE AUTO-PAUSING FEATURE is useless. I tried to give it a chance, but I had to turn it off because it just did not work at all ever. I don't now why they even kept that "feature" in this set because it just does not work. I have very short hair, so it's not getting in the way or anything. I would put the set on and it would start. stop start. stop. Just on it's own. When I'd take the headset off, it would keep playing. It just doesn't work at all. Silly. THE TOUCH CONTROLS work okay. Not flawlessly, just okay. It's more annoying than cool. Swiping left or right is easy enough and tapping to play is hit or miss, depending on if you actually hit or miss the center of the earcup. Volume adjusting is awkward. It feels like it just doesn't want to work, but then will start working after a second. It's just more of a hassle than something useful. I constantly do a swipe to change the song, realize I didn't swipe it properly and have to re-swipe. Not a deal-breaker, as I'm sure I would get the hang of it after a while, but it's another CON to add to the pile. So to summarize my review of this set: It's a magnificent thing to behold, but not great in actual application. Not quite worth over $300. They ALMOST are with that build quality, but not in actual application, so regrettably I must return them. I would definitely consider buying a non-ANC open-backed version of these headphones because again, the build and aesthetic is just so good. ... show more
