  • Different
I have played many brands of sticks and many wood, finish, etc. types within those brands. I have never tried bamboo before so I thought I'd give it a try. The stick itself is very light. I compared it to a 5a made out of maple and it was lighter. For me it took more effort to get the quick bounces as I felt like I had to force it down. This is a fairly typical 5a, with a larger bead on it than I'm used to. On a ride cymbal it is not as articulate, and has a fuller sounding attack. The feel of the stick is very dry. You can feel the grain of the bamboo that runs from top to bottom. The balance point is at the center. If you click the two sticks together, it gives a very muted sound vs. the louder tone of hickory. If you're looking for a lighter stick, this becomes very attractive. However, there were some issues for me had me bring down the rating. Most importantly the sticks that I received were different diameters at the butt end. It is a small number, but significant in the feel. I could tell with my eyes closed they were different. As well, where the taper is, is also different. The sticks were not pitched matched. I'm not exacting, most sticks I tried beyond the ones that claim they are pitch matched are at least close. These are not. There were some flat spots on the stick. In other words, not perfectly round. The sticks have no markings on them, most importantly stick size 5a. Sometimes a visual is nice when you are reaching for a stick or sorting thru pairs of sticks so you know what your getting. Overall, I would say these are interesting, but wouldn't really recommend them to someone who was serious about playing just because of the inconsistencies. If those were corrected, I would say I would rate it higher ... show more

  • Decent sticks but lighter than hardwood
This is the first time I played with bamboo sticks. I'm used to hickory or maple hardwood sticks. Several things I immediately noticed...there was an overall texture to the feel of the stick vs. a smooth hardwood stick, and second, they are light....REALLY light, and finally, it was much more muted than a hard wood stick. If you count off with the sticks before starting a song, you are used to a sharp click, click, click. These were dull thud, thud, thud. Now I was playing on a Roland V-Drum kit so I can't say whether the bamboo made a difference in sound (since it is using sampled sounds), I would be interested in hearing what people playing on a traditional, acoustic kits would say about any tone implications. That said, overall build quality was good based on the price but call me old school...I'm going to stick with hardwoods. ... show more

  • It works great for me
These drumsticks work great for me. I do need to mention that I am very new to drumming. I am just learning. So, for a beginner they are very good. The price is right also.

  • Very Light weight
These are good sticks if you need to play lightly. Good feel but is light. Wear should be light based on playing lightly. Seem to be durable but time will tell.

  • Tap Tap Tap!
These sticks are pretty cool. Very light for sure. They are, for sure, the lightest weight sticks I have ever used. Wooden tipped which give a softer sound. I really like them but they aren't for every song or type of music. While they seem pretty durable, I would not recommend them if you are a metal drummer. They are slightly longer then most of my other sticks. They are priced well. I recommend them. ... show more

  • Rough all around
These aren't great. Imagine these are oversized chopsticks and you've got a pretty good idea of their feel, texture, and sound. The wood is pretty rough. The weight feels off. When you hit the sticks together, the thock is noticeably lighter than other 5As I've got. I might keep these in my car as a backup pair, I don't know, there are a lot of superior options out there. ... show more

  • Wood is smooth
The tips have worked well with the drums after multiple daily use. I normally use nylon tip but wanted to see and hear the difference between the two types. I understand that these may not last as long as nylon, but at least tips won't fall out. I'm enjoying the warmer tones and the feel of wood.

  • Not for me...
These might be OK for a children set but I wasn't impressed with them at all. I immediately noticed one stick is heavier than the other. A very noticeable difference, 32 grams vs 48 grams in weight; throwing the balance off. I struggled with getting a simple double stroke drumroll with them.
