  • More torque than I expected!
Color: Display P860C Size: 1000W+46T+52V20Ah Shark Battery
I’ve been looking for a good E bike at an affordable price for a long time. I knew I did not want a hub drive motor because of the low torque and problems I’ve seen with axles spinning and ripping out the wires. My only option for the torque I wanted is a mid drive motor. Many of these E bikes with mid drive motors are several thousand dollars and I did not want to spend that much money. I bought this conversion kit for an old Kona that I’ve had for many years. I now have a mid drive 1000 W electric bike for under $1500. Buyer beware – this thing has more torque than I expected. I’ve been thrown off the bike twice so far due to the front wheel coming off the ground and my slow reaction to grab the rear brake. I’m learning that you need to start out in the lower assist mode so it doesn’t do that. Starting out in assist mode five is extremely risky especially if you are facing even slightly uphill. Overall I give this thing five stars and I’m thrilled with the performance and range. If you are even slightly mechanically inclined I highly recommend this conversion kit. You can save a ton of money and still have the feel of the bike that you are used to riding. The kit comes with a few tools but not everything you might need for your bike. Keep that in mind. I had to buy a couple of things to take my bike apart. The kit was very easy to install in just a few hours. If I had to do it again I could do it in under an hour. I weigh around 240 pounds at 6 foot one, and this bike can pull me up any hill. It has pedal assist and throttle, and it seems like pedal assist gives you 75% of the power and when you add throttle you get the remaining power. The average bike rider probably doesn’t need 1000 W mid drive conversion kit, so you really should consider what you want. I’m sure that the 500 or 750 W machine would be just fine for someone my size who is just riding around town. That extra power extends your capabilities to dirt hill climbs and more extreme to rain. Take your time and learn how to safely ride with this mid drive modification because you can get seriously injured if you are thrown off the bike backwards. Also, be prepared to improvise battery location. My frame was too tight to install inside the frame so it had to go on top. I also had to buy a top mount battery bracket because I did not want to drill holes in my frame. ... show more

  • Solid motor with lots of power
Color: 01EKD Display Size: 1000W+46T+52V20Ah Shark Battery
This is a decent motor, lots of power. No problems so far after 500 miles. I use it to commute 40 miles a day. I got the bigger motor figuring it'd do better with heat and not have to run it near capacity. It fit my 90's mountain bike just fine but I did add a 2mm spacer and some washers to get more clearance for the chain ring. It's still winter so I've been riding in the snow and cold and it's been fine. The power assist buttons are really close to the menu button on the display so sometimes I accidentally get into the menu when I want to change the assist level. I'm not sure if the throttle is going to survive the weather but it's easy enough to replace it with a better one if that time comes. The battery pack can wobble so I may have to put a shim on or come up with a better way to secure it but it's OK with the water bottle mounts and a pair of Velcro straps. The cables aren't the nicest looking after it's be tied down but that's a small price to pay for getting an e-bike. Other than that, it was straight forward to install everything. The seller was responsive and it shipped quickly. ... show more

  • Works well and seems quite powerful!
The install went well, but wasnt without issue. I would have given it 5 stars if there was better instructions. Also, some of the cables needed to be alot longer, especially the battery cable. The gauge of wire seems a little small in my opinion but I havent had issues yet. Assuming you are able to get your old crank and bottom brackets off, the install was pretty straight forward. The bolts provided seems pretty low quality and seemed like they would strip very easy, so dont hulk them when you install it like the bolts you took off were. I hope they dont snap under heavy use. The motor itself is pretty heavy and seems well built. The brake handles feel fine. I only used the front one since im keeping my gears in the rear. I am only able to use 7 of the 8 gears I have, I believe its due to the placement of the drive gear. But thats not a big deal. I built a 13s5p battery using Panasonic NCR18650PF batteries (14.5AH) and I drove this around one assist level 1 for 10km on small hills and mostly flat areas and it drained the battery about 95wh. I tested the level 5 assist and it goes pretty fast. You dont have to pedal at all really. I am 6'2" 285, and I was pulling a 50lb bike trailer during this test and I didnt feel like I needed to use anything more than assist 1. I averaged between 10-15kph before the motor would kick on and off. I tested the max speed of the motor with no load on a lift, and in my final drive gear, it almost hit 60kph. (according to the speedometer.) The fasted I went was about 25kph. I would say that overall this is a good kit. Time will tell if the quality will last. But I do think the mid drive is worth the money of the in wheel motors. ... show more

  • Pretty much awesome
While it’s a little bit on the DIY and figure it out side of things, it was mostly relatively straight forward to put onto my old bike. Just make sure you have tools for your bike, some patience, and you should be up and running, or riding I should say. The motor is heavy, and super solid feeling, pretty sure it would eat a crash with no issue. I put this on my older Specialized mountain bike, both the kit and the bike together still cost 1-2k usd less than a branded e-bike of relative comparative specs. On assist 3, i rode about 64~ miles before recharging when it got to around 18% left , and surprisingly it charges much faster than I expected it to. on my bike with its current gear ratio, and on flat ground, using throttle i can get up to 35mph, a tad on the scary side. A bit on the ludicrous side, as I pretty much only use it to ride to work, and enjoy light exercise to wake me up, it pretty much stays in assist 3 , as most of my trip is up hill. It handles hills very well, and never seems to struggle, I weigh about 140lbs. the light that it comes with is crazy bright, as i’ve rode home as it’s getting dark, the whole pathway is completely lit up ... show more
