Works great even when used as a water fall pump for a large gold fish pond. I run it directly from 2 solar panels. I have a 15 foot length hose connected and the water fall is 8 feet. I tried it at 15 feet and it works great, I don't have a tall enough ladder to test it limits. I have the bottom embedded in a foam block to keep the muck out. UPDATE: still works, I have a float switch and a low voltage cutoff relay added to protect the pump. Low voltage doesn't really hurt much but if you allow the water to run low the motor will burn out since it cant get the heat out. The suction is pretty intense so any foam block you use will need to have a lot of surface area. What I ended up doing was just filling a plastic flower pot with gravel and having the pump in the center of the gravel. This pump doesn't mind the really small algae but any plant material or mud will clog the inlet holes. Have the float switch screwed into the side of the top of the flower pot and make sure it cuts off power when water is about 2 inches above where the water flows over the top of the pot. The suction is strong enough to cause the pump to run dry because the water won't flow over the pot fast enough to keep up with the pump. (also sucking in water from the top will keep most muck out of your filter because the muck tends to be on the bottom. I'm buying a second unit to increase the water flow of the water fall. Its currently 8 feet tall and 2 feet wide and has 2 flat areas between 3 slopes. The water is about 1 to 2 inches deep in the flat areas and very substantial in the slopes. You must protect against the water slashing out by clever use of rocks and plants to keep the water in the pond instead of flooding your yard. The water fall is basically a pond liner nailed on top of a treated lumber frame but it looks convincing and I didn't do any digging. Plants in planters cover the sides along with 2 tall shrubs. I have the solar panels above the pond for shade. 2 are required to run 1 pump. (a 12volt panel actually outputs 18volt during full sun so you can connect the panels in parallel and integrate with your existing 12v solar setup or you can do series and get more water flow from the pump- one 100watt 12v panel won't output 18v with this pump because the current draw is too much). ... show more

  • This pump has proved to be reliable and effective
I wanted a 12V submersible pump because we keep horses and like to regularly drain and clean their drinking troughs which are deep and don’t have drain plugs. We also have a small swimming pool that we drain and put away each autumn. I didn’t want an AC pump because there is no power available to the horse paddock, and the pool is far from any power outlets. To run this pump I use a 12V rechargeable power bank/car starter for draining the pool which makes it all portable. It can also run from solar panels which I haven’t tried yet, but may do later this year as I can just set one of these up and let it run unattended. For draining horse troughs we power the pump from the battery on our truck. This pump does the job we bought it for. It’s small and lightweight which makes swapping it around from trough to trough or carrying it to the pool no problem. There’s a filter on the bottom which stops large junk from the bottom of whatever you’re draining from jamming up the pump, but it still allows the water level to get pretty low. There’s a metal connector for the water outlet which is ribbed so you can just push a one-inch hose over it. The power cord comes without any connectors and two wire at the end marked red for positive and black for negative as you’d expect. We attached red and black battery clamps to ours for easily connecting to the truck battery terminals. You could fit on a cigarette lighter attachment and then plug it in inside the vehicle if you wanted to. The power cord is just over 20ft long which makes it actually useful compared to some others we have seen with much shorter cords, especially if you are going to power it like we do to make it portable. This pump doesn’t make too much noise when it’s working (the horses aren’t bothered by it) and it states that is can deliver up to 26 gallons a minute. I haven’t got any way of accurately measuring this, but it feels about right to me - especially when pumping the troughs which only need about 5ft of head. The pump is rated for up to 25ft, so plenty to spare for our applications! So far this has proved to be reliable and effective and is exactly what we wanted to have a portable 12V pumping solution. ... show more

  • Lasted about 8 hours!
Only lasted about 8 hours. It smells like burnt wires. Worst pump I have purchased so far!

  • Nice long good quality cord
Draws about 8.5A at startup, then levels off at 7A when powered by fully-charged 12V battery. With pump in my creek, I can fill a 5 gallon bucket in 45~50 seconds (pushing water up 10' rise and through 50' of hose) Pluses: Nice long good quality cord; solid construction; handle on the top is a nice plus. Minus: Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that there is a leak at the base just to the side of the outlet causing me to lose some pressure/flow, but not worth sending back or trying to disassemble and fix. Maybe during its winter vacation. ... show more

  • Not for use under water?
So, the little instruction manual says not to leave it under water unless you buy the upgraded version. Do they realize that this IS a water pump? So I checked the listing, pump nameplate and Amazon receipt. No model number listed. Again, sloppy Chinese crap. When will we learn? See the photos.. Look at my photos. There it is hilighted in yellow. DONT LEAVE IT UNDER WATER. BUY THE UPGRADED UNIT IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE IT IN THE WATER. Now, I challenge you to find the model numbers they refer to in the book. I don’t want a disposable pump that can’t stay in the water. ... show more

  • Do not believe the claim of stai less steel
It pumps just fine but the claims of being stainless steel are far from accurate. The pictures are after just one week of being submerged.
