  • SUPERBLY ENGINEERED KIT
Style: Norwood Size: 20 ft. x 12 ft.
I bought the 20x12 NORWOOD. One of the major features that led me to ths product was the fact that the corrugations in the roof panels run from the peak to the eave, instead of the numerous competing products that have the corrugations running parallel to the roof peak - - incredibly-stupid - designed to HOLD snow rather than shed it. The other major feature was that it is evident from the pictures how attractive, well engineered, and sturdy it is. The kit was delivered in 8 separate cartons, all in the same shipment. Each carton was very-well packaged, very well organized, and individually inventoried. Every structural piece is identified with a number. The fasteners and connectors are packaged in well-labelled plastic bags. It pays BIG dividends to spend the time to unpack all the components (structural, fasteners, connectors) and organize them on flat surfaces before beginning construction (as shown in the pictures). I matched each item with the in-box inventory sheet as well as with the complete inventory in the instruction manual. I was only short a few fasteners, which the company replaced immediately. SUPER. I was VERY impressed with the quality of the kit, the excellent instructions, and the fact that all the hundreds of pre-drilled holes aligned perfectly. AND it pays big dividends to read through the instruction manual a couple of times to get familiar with the assembly process, component organization, and overall layout. THEN follow the instruction manual and the build should go well. As I did the assembly, it was evident how well engineered this structure is - designed and implemented with strength AND stiffness. I assembled it (mostly) myself over the course of about 2 weeks of part-time days. I needed help from a friend to lift the the four completed roof panels into place, but other than that, fundamentally a one-person job. I made one small engineering change: as shown in the picture, there is a diagonal brace added to each of the rear sections. I did that because the concrete pad on which I installed the carport is slanted down at about 2.5 degrees. The instructions are pretty explicit about building the kit with the columns set perfectly vertical. However, if I did that on a slanted surface, there would have been serious alignment problems with the horizontal components and the roof structure. So I built it perpendicular / parallel to the slanted surface, and then, to counteract any collapsing forces caused by a large snowload, I installed those diagonals (paired pressure-treated 2x6's on each side). {Snowload is a real issue here - one year, a single snowstorm COLLAPSED the roof on my work-van.} ... show more

  • Great product - hard work to build
Style: Norwood Size: 16 ft. x 12 ft.
This is an amazing gazebo. Opened the boxes and the unmistakable smell of cedar. Packaging came in 6 boxes - very heavy. No damage occurred in shipping. Construction took a full day with four of us working. The final product is beautiful. This is a great purchase for the money.

  • Prep and follow instructions.
Style: Norwood Size: 16 ft. x 12 ft.
The media could not be loaded. We absolutely love this! It is sturdy and beautiful! As expected, this has alot of pieces, we prepped by laying out all the nuts, bolts, screws etc pieces in number order on a large table. We also put all the wood pieces in number order too. It goes without saying we also had a table with the tools we needed. This made it helpful as we moved on to each step. The pre-drilled holes made this easier to put together. We already anticipated that it would take many hours an patience so we spread the project over two days. Highly recommend using the instruction book they provide and the instruction video app. The combination of the two made a huge difference! This can be done with two people, but a third person to read the instructions and prep the parts for the next step will help and make sure that the right parts are used. My husband, myself and one of his friends put it together. Of course we had our frustrations and were tired when it was done but it was so well worth it! ... show more

  • Excellent size and quality but roof drainage is not the best.
Style: Granada Size: 10 ft. x 9 ft.
I love this pergola! It is exactly what I needed here in the PNW. Like other folks noted, it was not easy to assemble and it took us a few days and help of a few friends to get it done. As I expected, the legs are pretty much a square which allowed me to situate the pergola on a 9 by 9 patio and arrange it such that the longer roof direction worked to my favor and I didn't have to place any of the legs in the garden, they are all on the concrete patio. The only issue we had were the gutter instructions they indicate to place the in as far as possible, which we did. However, the first rain proved that this is a mistake as the wood on the ends does get wet. It would have been dry and had better drainage if we had slid them out a little so the edge overhangs a bit more. I will probably invest in a clear waterbased wood seal to protect the wood, which is also fairly soft so if you are going to assemble on concrete like I did, put down the cardboard from the box on your work area. Also, it says to peal off the blue protector plastic from the roof but this just would not come off so I have a blue roof for now and I am fine with that... Maybe it will bubble eventually but I have only just finished setting it up. Lastly, I don't want the shelves or side rails but I couldn't find a way to order it without them so I just have them in a pile in my garage. 😉 In summary, a great quality product, the cedar smell is awesome, all of the pieces needed were there with extras! I would definitely buy this again and recommend it to anyone looking for something more sturdy than an umbrella. ... show more

  • Pain with Amazon return - not easy to assemble
Style: Norwood Size: 20 ft. x 12 ft.
Accidentally ordered one from the manufacturer direct and one from Amazon. Caught the error about four hours after order and immediately went to cancel the order, which Amazon refused to accept trying to tell us this huge order was already on a truck (lies). We had to refuse delivery when it arrived two weeks later as a result; what a pain and doesn't seem like good business practice. Meanwhile, we have to wait for the $4k charge to be removed from our credit card while Amazon takes its time processing the return for an item that shouldn't have been delivered. We hired our long-time contractor to put it together and he and his worker are on day three (now six) of assembly - including installing bolt-on ground anchors (to make it semi-permanent per local codes), with probably more to install the roof and gutters (not provided). So far it looks attractive and solid enough (though the posts are not solid wood). Instructions are a bit unclear and many of the parts aren't marked for ease of assembly. Essentially Ikea on steroids, but without useful instructions. ... show more
