  • LeeKooLuu LK3 installed as a Backup Camera with Rear View HD Monitor Kit
LeeKooLuu did a great job in putting together the LK3 kit. Everything I would need came in the kit (and a few extras for options). So far, I really like this system. It was very price competitive for the performance specifications. It has all the features I was looking for in a backup camera kit. The instruction pamphlet is reasonable; but there are a number of YouTube videos done by LeeKooLuu that gave me more knowledge and the confidence to proceed. The pamphlet shows a few ways to wire the system. It can be always on, on with the ignition, or (my preferred way) when reverse is engaged. The camera appears to be well waterproof. That’s one of the “must have” components in my search for a system. I’ve seen some cameras that have shielding; but this device meets the IP69 standard. IP69K enclosures protect electronics from high pressure jet wash and steam cleaning. That’s important when you wash your vehicle. You can control the system on/off by switching power or by a button on the monitor. It depends on where you tap into the vehicle power supply. I elected to have it work as a reverse gear-initiated backup camera. I was putting the LK3 on my pickup truck so I could get a better feel of where the rear end is located relative to the surroundings. It’s a working vehicle, not my primary mode of transportation. I mounted the camera over the rear license plate and tested the system before full installation. The 4.3” 1080p LCD monitor worked beautifully producing a bright, clear picture. If you want to change the picture, the monitor has controls for contrast, brightness, and tint. See the world the way you want. I played with the adjustable Parking Grid Line system on the monitor to adjust the lines while I was at the back of the vehicle. That gave me an indication of how they would function when in use. Now began hard part: how to route the wiring from the tailgate up to the cab. This was definitely the most difficult part of installation. I followed existing wires and harnesses along the frame to the cab. I didn’t have to drill a hole to route the wires internally. I found a pass-through plug that I sent the wires through. Once in the cab, it was a simple matter of removing interior trim to route the wires. Thanks to LeeKooLuu for providing sufficient wire to complete the routing comfortably. I still have enough wire on the monitor end to place it where I want and enough on the camera/power end to change power supply, should I want. I used zip ties, electrical tape, and rubber grommets (not in the kit, but I’m compulsive). The tape was for wire covering anywhere I though the wires would rub metal and the grommets for pass-throughs on the frame. The most challenging part had nothing to do with the LK3 kit. It was finding the Hot and Neutral wires on my reverse light. Mine has a non-standard wiring (i.e., the wires were not the colors they should be.) Having my wife at the wheel and a multimeter in my hand at the tail/reverse light solved the problem quickly. I used a military wiring tap instead of the supplied T-taps and sealed the tail light unit back up. Everything worked just as promised. The 4.3” monitor turns on when I put the truck in reverse. All that is left is for me to decide where to mount the monitor. LeeKooLuu provides multiple options for mounting as well, dash or window mount. Great work LeeKooLuu. ... show more

  • Easy to install and works great
I installed this on my '08 Miata, and although it was a bit time consuming, installation was quite easy. The camera installed just above my license place, and it almost looks OEM. You can see nothing but the camera. I wired mine into the backup lights, and the instructions for doing this were clear. Visibility is great, and it works so well that I wonder why I waited so long to install it. Packaging was good and the price was right. ... show more

  • A very, very good product and superb customer service
Let me preface this by pointing out that Amazon sometimes aggregates reviews of similar products. Be sure which product's review you are reading about. I actually tried two items as I received the wrong one based on a review which was on the product's page but was for a different model of the product. The focus of the first part of my review is for a single-camera system which is the "LeeKooLuu Backup Camera and Monitor Kit HD 720P Easy Installation for Cars,Trucks,Pickups Waterproof Night Vision..." kit. This kit is well made and well packaged. I bench tested it first and was surprised to see that the connector for the camera was not the typical RCA plug but a very streamlined connector that (when unplugged) is ridiculously easy to feed through whatever car parts are in the way. The picture from the camera (and the monitor) are great. Way beyond expectations. And there's a single wire to cut if you decide to use the camera for a front-mount view. Guidelines are adjusted at the monitor by using one of the buttons on the back of it to go into programming mode. There is a set of LEDs and a sensor so that they know when to turn on or off when the camera is engaged. The head/monitor comes with a nice setup allowing easy installation--especially if you choose to use the magnetic plate on the back of the head. Then it's just a matter of setting the mount as you like it and you can click the head on and off with ease. Five stars for the single-camera, monitor and mounting system. Customer service was excellent. My intent was to order a two-camera unit but I received the single camera unit instead. (Because of the aggregated reviews.) When I contacted the vendor (by email) and explained the situation, and why I ordered the model I got, they were incredibly accommodating and shipped me a two-camera unit and all parts by expedited delivery. Seven stars (!) for customer service. The two-camera unit performs as well as my reviewed single-camera unit. Unfortunately, having had the single camera, I feel compelled to compare the two. While the two-camera unit works fine, it uses RCA plugs for the video and a similar-sized connector for power. Don't get me wrong, they're fine, but they aren't as slick, or compact as that in the single-camera system. In addition, programming for the dual-camera unit is done with a button that is on the camera lead, near the camera itself. This means it will be out in the elements (granted, you may rout it inside the vehicle, mine will not be). Same with the connectors. I expect I will tape and/or heat shrink these items to make them less visible and more watertight. That said, the picture is more than adequate for the purposes although (objectively) the single-camera picture looks a bit sharper. The provided LEDs are about the same between the two and should give adequate illumination to aid in backing. Overall, a really good product. Unfortunately, the mount for the monitor for the dual-camera unit is not as nice as the one for the single camera. Don't get me wrong: It will work just fine, but the single camera mount has more adjustment and a magnetic latch. The two-camera unit does not have the magnetic connection, just a couple clips to hold it in place. Four-and-a-half stars for the two-camera unit and only because I had the chance to use the better-designed single camera unit beforehand. You can't go wrong with either unit. Both deliver a great quality picture and are easy to hook up. The units I received even had the option of powering via an (included) "cigarette lighter" plug with its own on-off button instead of wiring them into the vehicle's electronics. Finally I should mention one error: The manufacturer's instructions for the two-camera unit has an error in that it shows two yellow RCA connectors on the head/monitor for the two cameras. Actually one of the connectors is white and this is the camera that will take precedence when it receives power. (That is to say that one camera is always on and on the monitor--if powered--but the other one will take over the monitor when a signal comes in from that camera. And you control that by providing power--usually from the reverse lights--to that camera.) ... show more
