Description

THE SPINE IS THE ROOT OF ALL MOTION - QIGONG EXERCISES CAN HELP ELIMINATE BACK PAINYoung or old, sedentary or athletic; it is likely that you will experience some sort of back pain injury in your lifetime. Since the spine is the root of all motion, a healthy back is vital to well-being.Although Western Medicine has made great progress in treating spinal illnesses and lower back pain, it has only limited success in actually healing it.Chinese Medicine, over the last four thousand years, has developed many of its own methods to treat spine problems, including Qigong exercises, acupuncture, massage, and herbal treatments. By doing Qigong exercises, you can effectively treat many cases of spinal illnesses and rebuild the strength of your torso, which is the root of complete healing. This book introduces Qigong exercises that can restore the health of the spine. Some of the exercises are designed to heal a condition, others to help rebuild the strength of the joints, still others to help keep the back healthy and prevent further problems from developing. • The best practical book on how to treat yourself
The best practical book on how to treat yourself. Great review of Western methods, anatomy, comparison and differentiation with Chinese approach. Easy to follow exercises wonderfully explained and illustrated. This book gives you understanding and control over pain and shines the light at the end of suffering. I remember my orthopedic surgeon, who simply told me that the pain will be worse, the low back will degenerate further and of course the fusion will help. Between this book and the book The End of Back Pain: Access Your Hidden Core to Heal Your Body by Patrick Roth I have a plan and hope that the time will come without pain. ... show more

  • Good content, flawed presentation
Dr Yang presents a summary of the Chinese and Western approaches to back pain, although his focus in the sections for self-help and for the therapist is, naturally, on the Chinese approach. The text and illustrations are generally clear, and for a therapist the book would be a useful resource to show (and, if you trust them, lend) to clients. On that basis, I'd give it at least 4 stars. So, where's the problem? This book is unquestionably the worst-proofread book I have come across. In his preface Dr Yang acknowledges the work of three people in proofing the manuscript -- if what was published is the result of their work, they should be ashamed of it. For example, at the top of page 117, "A number of testes can assist the physician in making the diagnosis." Probably true, especially if a degree of bravery were required. If that were an isolated instance I'd ignore it; unfortunately, it isn't. Dr Yang also attempts to provide a gloss of academic respectability by including references; however, some of these don't really meet academic standards of credibility or reliability (e.g. the Baltimore Sun). Still, if you can force yourself to overlook these errors, the content is worthwhile. OK, as one reviewer commented, much of it may be a re-hash of Dr Yang's other books, but I don't have them and I do have a professional interest in back pain, so I'm happy to have and use the book. ... show more

  • Don't waste your time or money
If any reader had purchased or read any of Yang's other books on qigong, they would have easily extracted the very same information without having to read through this vapid rehashed material presented as possibly something new in the treatment of back illnesses and injuries. Yang does have over 30 schools around the world with thousands of loyal students who love show support for him by highly-rating his works whether the work is worthy or not. Buyer beware or ratings. ... show more
