  • Big solar panel, intuitive user interface, happy chickens
What’s in the box: door assembly, corded solar panel, remote control, panel mount, USB-C charging cable, mounting screws, plastic wall anchors and appropriately sized Phillips screwdriver. First impressions: The solar panel is much bigger than the other chicken door I was using. The door slides up vertically, so will need to be mounted without obstructions above it. It has an on/off switch and arrived charged so I was able to program it prior to installation. The digital screen is easy to read at a distance, which is really a plus with my aging eyes. It was easy and intuitive to adjust the time and program when to open and close. Installation: It is meant to mount on a flat surface like the exterior of a flat door or a wall. With a variable surface like siding or a paneled door, be prepared to shim to create the flat surface. The directions recommend using a chainsaw to cut the hole. Um- no! I’m assuming that is a mistranslation because that’s not the appropriate or safe tool. I would recommend making a pilot hole with a drill and using a jig saw or reciprocating saw to cut the rough opening. Things I really like in comparison to the door it replaced: I like the option to turn the whole thing off, using the slider switch. It can be charged with the USB cable if that was more convenient. I don’t know how often it would need to be recharged. I prefer the solar, continuous charge option. The construction is solid and the design is great for all-weather operation.I like the slide-up door vs the “roll top desk" style which I had. The slats of my prior door would get dust and debris between the slats and carry it inside the mechanism. It didn’t take long for the door to start juddering and laboring to open and close. I had to take it apart to clean it & it never worked the same. This new door is a simple metal panel that slides up and down within a sturdy frame. It operates smoothly & is held tightly in place by the frame. The occasional raccoon, opossum, fox or coyote can’t break through it. The remote operates at a decent distance- at least 5 yards. My former door needed to be within a few feet of the remote, so it was useless. The operating mode choices are great. My other door had two modes- timed open/close or open/close triggered by sunrise and sunset. It didn’t close until it was really dark- when some predators were already out. I can tell this new door to open & close with those options OR It can be programmed to open at a certain time, but close according to the amount of light and vice versa. This is nice if I want to let the rooster out late so I can sleep in, but want everything closed up automatically before dark. The best option with this new door is that the sensor can be programmed to percentages of light and dark so I can adjust just how light it will be to trigger opening and what level of dark will trigger it to close. What wasn’t great: The mount for the solar panel was difficult to screw into the panel and difficult to adjust. The base needs to be screwed into the wall before the rest can be attached. After a lot of cursing, I resorted to separating the mount at the angle adjuster, screwing that half into the receiver at the back of the panel and then reconnecting the two sections. Overall, I’m really pleased with the structure and features of this door. It provides flexibility for my convenience and solid safety for my flock. ... show more

  • really nice coop door
I live where we have lots of critters that would like to make my chickens their lunch so it is important to lock them up every night, but at times it is inconvenient to go out at dark especially if it is raining so having an automatic coop door is really nice, and this automatic door is really nice. pros: 1. well built and designed 2. easy to install 3. solar cell is great for summer months when we get longer days and more sun 4. the back up charging cord is a great needed addition for the winter months with shorter days and and much more rain and sunless days 5. the auto door stop and reopen feature when the door runs into a chicken when closing works good and I'm sure the chickens appreciate this safety feature 6. comes with all needed mounting screws and even a screw driver how be it a wimpy one that you most likely will not use 7. the cord on the solar panel is nice and long allowing for better placement when mounting cons: 1. the instructions are a bit sparse for example could not find the instruction on setting the main clock and failed to mention there is a small plastic tap that needs to be removed from the battery on the remote conclusion: for anyone with chickens this would be a worth while investment and I would highly recommend it ... show more

  • Nice, sturdy chicken coop door
After a few months of use, I can say I'm really happy with this coop door. It is set to run on a timer and hasn't missed an open or close. It's not great for protection from coyotes, smaller animals would have a hard time getting past it. The remote works consistently and it's easy to program.

  • Long lasting battery, well made unit
The battery lasted two weeks without being hooked up to the solar. There is one bar left. So far, no issues opening or closing. The unit performs just fine. The solar panel hooks up to the unit via a c cable. It’s a sturdy unit and well made. Easy to install too. Six screws and you’re good to go. Just don’t forget to cut the hole 😉. The unit mounts flush, and opens straight up and down. So be mindful if there is any type of overhang on your coop. This is a vine review. If the product wasn’t any good, you’ll definitely know about it. I would never want anyone buying garbage products…This is simply a great coop door. ... show more

  • Works Great
This automatic chicken door works great, it works both on the timer and the light sensor even in the shade. I also like the fact that the solar panel is metal and plastic not glass so its sturdy and will hold up outdoors. The panels keep a good charge. My girls are happy!

  • No more waking up to let the chickens out.
I ordered this for one of our chicken coops after using a different brand and wanted to try this one out. You can set this to open and close with varying degrees of light, timed, or a combination of the two, as well as manually or by remote. From testing this will work to around 25-30 yards and is line of sight in operation. The door and frame are aluminum and must be mounted flat with no warping of the frame for best operation. This set includes the door, hardware, remote, solar charger with cable, and instructions. We have street lamp not far from our coop so I haven't tried the lighting settings but the times settings works great and so far the time has been spot on. We have some young birds that have made a habit of hanging outside the coop after dark with the street light glowing so I usually set the time for a little later and check them before we go to bed. It has worked without fail so far and over a few rainy days it was nice not having to get out in the rain to open or put them to bed. Overall nice all inclusive package. ... show more
