  • Wasn't perfect, but it looks good
Style: Bugflector II - Smoke
Easy enough to install. The instructions leave a little to the imagination, but I figured it all out pretty easy. It fits the truck without any modifications, but I did have one minor issue. One end was curved in further than the other and would have hit the fender rather than the hood (when placing the rubber bumpers). I had to use a heat gun and bend it to make them match so I didn't have a little rubber bumper on my fender visible and annoying me every time I raise the hood. Other than that, the install went fine. ... show more

  • Great product - People should read instructions!
Style: Bugflector - Smoke
I have had AVS hood deflectors on my last 5 vehicles and have been pleased, this one for my new 2019 F150 is no different. For those that have offered bad reviews regarding the fasteners, they should read the installation instructions, cause they obviously tried to install it incorrectly. If you look at the instructions, it illustrates that you insert the fastener base through the shield and into the hood, then you put the screw through the hood gasket and into the fastener base. If you follow the instructions, the fasteners fit fine and hold as they should. Those that complain about it not being long enough or filling the hole are either not using the correct model, or trying to insert the base through the gasket and shield. If you follow the instructions, it will work fine. That said, this isn't the easiest install I've had, but that's mainly due to the construction of the hood and hood gasket coupled with where this shield installs. I recommend having a helping hand hold the shield in place while you are installing. Also, I only pulled out the factory fasteners I had to and left the others in, then slid the shield into place letting the hood gasket help me hold the shield in place while I attached it. You can hold up the shield to the gasket and figure out which ones to remove before you start. Inserting the fastener base into the shield and hood behind the gasket isn't the easiest either. Do one at a time (be careful not to drop the fastener base) and then insert the screw through the gasket and into the base. Then you need to hold the entire setup firm against the hood while you screw the screw into the base. Start with the middle and work your way out, one at a time, worked for me. The only issue I had was what seemed to be a slight warp in the passenger side of the shield, I think this was caused by a product model stamp in the plastic. The warp made it difficult to get the one fastener to hold as it would keep popping out due to the warp. I ended up just using an A56 fastener (I had a kit of fasteners) instead of what was included with the shield. That A56 just pushes through the gasket, shield, and into the hood. It held real tight even with the warp. I was actually wondering if the A56 could be used for all 4 holes, which would make installation real easy then. I sent all this feedback to the mfr as well. Overall, the installation, including cleaning the front of my hood, took probably 30 minutes, even with the difficulty of the one hole. I had my wife help hold the one end only to work with the warp/twist my deflector had. Otherwise I did this myself. The 3M protective film is actually pretty thick and held up even while I adjusted the placement of the brackets. I actually installed the film in 30 degree temperatures and it held just fine. I recommend using a screwdriver to open the gap in the clip some before putting it on your hood as the instructions note. Just don't make it too loose or it won't do it's job. Fasten all the middle part before applying the 3M film and clips at either end. It's easy to move the shield out of the way enough to do this. Another recommendation, I purchased a set of tools to remove the factory clips holding the gasket in. Since my truck was brand new, I did not want to damage my hood during installation. For $15 I purchased a kit that contained 6 or 7 tools and a bunch of plastic fasteners that several car manufacturers use. For me it was worth the piece of mind and the tools were very useful in removing the gasket fasteners and did no damage to my hood. In my case, the A56 fasteners included in the kit addressed the issue I had with the warp. Overall, very pleased with the product and the installation, even though it could have been easier. Love the look of this deflector on my truck. It's not too big, and cuts off just a little past the hood itself (does not wrap around). BTW - For those who have commented on going with other products - Stampede, AVS, and Lund hood deflectors are all made by the same company, Lund International. I am thinking WeatherTech's hood deflector is also a private label version of one of these models as well, but not sure. However, the installation instructions I found online look real similar to this AVS model. ... show more

  • Damaged, bit of a pain to install, looks good though
Style: Bugflector - Smoke
Opened the package to find it was cracked. I’m sure Amazon would have refunded but didn’t want to wait and chance the same outcome. The kit comes with these little screws. Do yourself a favor and toss these in the trash and buy some oem clips. I spent way too much time trying to get these to fit. Bought oem and had them snapped in within seconds. Better connectors and an undamaged product would have resulted in five stars. ... show more

  • Nice bug shield....Crappy installation hardware!
Style: Bugflector II - Smoke
I finally got around to installing this thing. It's in and it looks sharp. Hopefully, it will help with a little less bug smear on my long distance travels. When I looked at the reviews, prior to purchasing this item, it was consistently rated as poor for the mounting hardware. People said to throw away the junk that came with it and go to the hardware store for your own mounting hardware. I thought that, if that was the only problem, I should be able to use their hardware, if I was really careful. Not! Their mounting hardware was poorly conceived and completely unusable, no matter how careful I was. I couldn't get even one of them to work. I was in the process of getting my calipers in there to measure the hole size so I could go to the hardware store, when I realized that their hardware design was, essentially a form of rivet. Put the cheap, expanding plastic barrel into the hole and then drive the metal screw into it to expand it. When I figured that out I simply got out my rivet gun and four rivets and had it completely installed in under ten minutes. I had spent the previous hour and a half, trying to use their hardware. Now, it looks sharp, it's firmly mounted and I'm happy. I would urge any purchaser to throw away the junk that comes with it and reach for a rivet. I would further urge the manufacturer to switch their installation hardware to four rivets and include a rivet gun as mounting tools required. I assure you that there would be a lot more happy customers and it would give others the confidence to buy when that nagging little problem in all of the reviews goes away. Don't have a rivet gun? They're under $20 so that shouldn't be a huge problem, compared to the time that people waste, trying to use their junk hardware. ... show more

  • Nice deflector but difficult to install
Style: Bugflector - Smoke
It is a good bug deflector, but it was very difficult to install. It requires that you remove the factory foam seal and then install the new retainer pins through the foam seal and the deflector into the hood panel mounting holes, which is extremely difficult process. I finally got some longer plastic pins that allowed me to push through both the seal and deflector and get to the mounting holes. If not for the metal clips that firmly hold the wings of the deflector, I doubt the deflector would stay in place. I went on line and found a couple YouTube videos of the install. During each of the video's the installer cut out to get the pins installed, and only commented that they were difficult to get in. After a failed first try, and a request to return the product, I relented and re-watched the YouTubers video's and got it done. ... show more

  • Looks good, but water pools in the middle
Style: Aeroskin II - Textured Black
The item looks good and fits very well. But after a car wash or when it rains, water pools in the middle. This is partially due to the F150 hood design, but there should be a hole for water to drain. When it dries slowly like this, dust will collect.
